The player from that last story would have a seizure at my current table. We have a player there that takes ages on ALL of his turns. It's not that he doesn't start prepping his moves ahead of time, it's more that his prep takes him so long that even starting to plan it ahead of time is not enough time to make up his mind. He's incredibly indecisive and wants to look at things from every angle, so he can determine the best possible outcome. His friends don't seem to mind, though. They've gotten accustomed to the fact that when it gets to him, the game will slow down until his decision finally comes and they usually just grab their phones and start browsing until that time. Pretty odd and not the most fun to DM for, but it seems to work for them, so I don't mind it too much.
@starbird393911 ай бұрын
One game I played summon woodland creatures and despite prepping all of this-it still took awhile. 8 bloodhawks with packs tactics, one getting a nat 20, and rolling all the damage.
@Xylarxcode11 ай бұрын
@@starbird3939 Yea, anything that summons a whole heap of creatures at once is a pain to get through, lol. I once made a basement encounter that was a spin off idea of the generic 'fight rats in the basement' encounter, where it was just that, except the rats replicated every time they died to the wrong kind of damage. Obviously, the players didn't know that last part, so before they knew it, what started as 3 rats pretty quickly spiraled into 30+ rats. Once they figured out the gimmick it went fast, but attacking with so many creatures one by one is not fun and I learned a good lesson that day, lol. The players didn't really care much for it either, so it was definitely a bit of a flop idea. I try not to moan when a druid summons a crapton of low CR animals to distract/harass enemies, but it can quickly ramp up into a big sucking up of time. Even with good prep, that's a considerable time investment that most players won't really care for. But hey, every once in a while, why not have some fun and see how it works out, right?

First Story: They shouldn't have cleaned the bathroom. Instead they should have called the police. The bathroom was more or less a crime scene and all the discustingness was evidence. Best case: The wizard is forced to get therapy, which he clearly needed, and the DM gets some kind of compensation.

I could see the other side of the story coming out for the DM vs player story that ran something like: “I recently was DM for a couple of guys that I didn’t know very well. I met them because their dad knew mine. I thought I had plenty of experience being a DM, but these guys apparently had way more. That’s ok; I just asked them to lend me their wisdom, but that was a mistake. Pretty soon, all I’m getting is pushback from these DM “experts” and comments about how I’m running the game wrong. I try to give some fun flavor like a crit fail of eldritch blast giving the player a tentacle arm, but that was quickly rejected. They started accusing me of railroading, but when I tried new or unique things, they were rejected, so yeah, it ended up railroading because it was the only way I could move them through the game. I quickly grew to resent them, and I admit that I grew vindictive and took it out on their characters, which of course made them mad and even more resistant. I know I shouldn’t have, but I got so frustrated and angry with them that I couldn’t even call one of them by name. I know I asked for their wisdom, but I just meant advice, not telling me the way they would DM and then expecting me to do exactly that. If they wanted to run the game so bad, they should have just been the DM themselves. If they thought I ran it so wrong, why not just leave? Luckily, within a few months it all fell apart and I don’t have to deal with them anymore. I know I was at fault for taking my frustrations out on their characters, but in the future, I think I’m only going to run games for people that I know well and definitely not for former DMs.” Not saying that’s what happened of course, but am saying that it would be interesting to hear the other side to see what the DM’s mindset was. Maybe it was actually just a misunderstanding, or maybe the DM is just a jerk. 🤷♂️
