Lol i get into frequent arguments with another player in my game. Hes playing a lizardfolk and im playing a dragonborn. He insists his character has a penis. I insist he does have one but its inside his body, not external like a human penis. (Hes a scaley) he says its just like a humans and im like no. I studied herpatology (reptiles and amphibians) he doesnt have external sex organs and his hemi-penis is not like a humans. Lol. Its a fun time. We both laugh. Its like a running joke now.

That first story with the DM constantly stealing stuff from the players. Wtf. That really bothers me. It sounds like the players were even trying to roll with it, but were punished at every turn. You have to know when to praise your players and lay off the gas while DMing. Otherwise you'll break people.

It never makes sense, but some people cant get out of their head that its a group table top game and not a video game. Its already bad when a player has tht mentality, but its 10× worse when a dm has it cause they are essentially god of the world and can do whatever they want without it really being "cheating".

Unnatural 21 means they got that number from a stat or skill modifier after the initial roll number. Given they were performing, you'd roll the base check then add a performance modifier of +2 or whatever.

Lone Wolf Story. This reminded me of an old joke. Preacher is in a town that is getting flooded by a river. Preacher has claimed God will save him. During the night the water rises quickly, forcing the Preacher onto his roof. A neighbor in a boat rows up at night and tells the Preacher to get in. Preacher refuses saying God will save him. The flow of the water is too strong and the neighbor is pushed away. Later a Rescue Boat finds the Preacher in the dark and tells the Preacher to get in. Preacher refuses saying God will save me. There are others to save so the Rescue Boat must go. Near morning a storm erupts causing the water to go higher. The Preacher is standing on the top of his roof with the water up to his knees. A Rescue Helicopter flies over and spots the Preacher, lowers a rope lader and tells the Preacher to climb up. Preacher refuses saying God will save me. The wind is too great and the helicopter must leave. Later the Preacher is swept from the roof by the water and drowns. In Heaven the Preacher finds God and demands to know why God didn't save him. God looks at him and says, I sent your neighbor, a rescue boat, I even sprang for a helicopter; all in the night when they could not see you! But you refused all my help! I can do all things! But there is only so much I can do if you aren't going to put any effort into it yourself! And to all new DM's out there remember this. You can only do so much. If the player is not willing to put any effort in, it will never work.

Though I think the kid was just trying to make a joke that just didn't land well and was too prideful to backtrack. As for the rape thing... I feel if anyone brings that up, it should always be handled like this. Immediate death and dismissal. Seducing attempts, while they can get out of hand, are one thing, but players wanting to rape just shows there's something wrong with them IMO. They probably need therapy.

Don't know how the game got ruined, I would have laughed my ass off on how that fool got stopped right there and then, tell him inbetween laughs on his way out not to let the door hit him! And been right back in the game (after looting his shit off his dead character with a spit on his corpse and a "good riddance" even if I was Lawful Good!) no need to get drunk! I'd also congratulate DM for IMMEDIATLY moving to action to remove his character in such a way and kicking him out! I'm sure he left without a word because he was still shocked OP DIDN'T procrastinate kicking his dumbass out. Makes me think the reason the creeps get worse and THEN start fighting when you delay is because they assume the moment you didn't do "this" to them. You were giving "your OKAY" to their bad behavior and they get pissed once you make it clear later that "you did NOT give your consent" which just illustrates that many should take this DM example and just remove the creeps the moment they unmask themselves so soon and on the spot!

Personally, I like the idea of letting them go through with it, up to the point where the character finds themself unable to perform. And then all the other slaves, and guards laughing at them. The subject is never dropped, with every NPC making references to it until the player quits. OK, not the most mature way of handling it, but it does sound fun.

First story: Okay, a few well-placed complications are great, but there’s such a thing as overdoing it. This game sounds like a miserable slog. I’d get out of there if I were you, OP. Second story: Obviously, the problem player is a disgusting little creep, but I see another problem in this story-the club leadership. This guy was constantly sexually harassing another player, and no one did anything to stop him? You know what they say, the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing. Third story: OP, you made the right call in getting rid of that guy immediately. I second your wish to never have anything else like that happen again! Fourth story: My advice, OP, would be to have a talk with this player and explain to her what the problem is. If her behavior doesn’t improve, tell her “while your character sits around turning up her nose at any attempt to involve her in anything, the rest of the party leaves and goes on the adventure. Roll up a new character who will actually participate.”

Real talk, some GMs just get off on screwing their players over every which way. They'll call it "realistic" if every NPC is a needlessly aggressive dirtbag, or make every fight completely unwinnable. I get that 3 kobolds won't show up to a fight against 5 heavily armed adventurers with slings, but like 30 enemies every fight is too damn much... (yes I've been in a game where the DM put 30 enemies, including 2 Spectators vs us, the level 2 party of 3).

For the Lonewolf, one idea might be to open the conversation with "Well, LW, how do you think that went?", and when she answers, maybe follow up with "What did you think about this or that aspect?" This will hopefully either open up what her problem is, or reveal that she isn't even aware that the way she is playing is not going to work in a game that depends on interacting with other people and the game world. In that case she can be gently led to a more reasonable way to set about playing. Start by getting her talking as a player, instead of trying to guess straight off what you should say. Then, when you're easing her into a more helpful mindset, use the "up, down, up" technique. Give some praise, perhaps about her character's build. Folllow up with the most important behaviour change you'd like her to make, with reasons, and finish with something else nice. This way of approaching things stands the best chance of exploring what she thinks is going on and addressing your biggest concern, without causing ructions.

with the one PC not talking to much in game, while talking "too much" irl in high school when my teachers wanted us to read out loud, most of them would pick people who didn't pay attention/were shy the people who didn't pay attention who would have full multi-hour conversations with people with all sorts of passion, when they read they made the humble, aspiring, and overall whimsy of Jay Gatsby sound sad, sleepy, and overall dry, speaking in a monotone voice that literally made me zone out to the point that they somehow made Siri sound like an A-list actress, while seemingly never really read anything more than her texts, now I may sound a bit harsh, but this is one of those people who I will hear talking about all the stuff they did besides school while saying they have something below a C in an already easy class because they outright just didn't do their homework or talking about how they didn't know about an assignment the teacher not only said out loud almost every day, wrote on the board, and posted it to the school website. these were also some of the same people who found it weird when people like me would do different voices to further differentiate characters And I've heard people who took a theatre class just for credits who more often than not wouldn't show up have more _emotion_ in their voice

A player that gives you nothing to work with? Yeah, definitely talk to them. If they don't seem like they want to change or don't understand the problem it might help to explain your game as a cooperative story. And think about what story beat you were trying to accomplish when you got nothing from them. If it's a minor issue, you can probably brush past it and move on. If it's something serious like answering the question "Why are you here doing this adventure with everyone?" then it can help isolate and explain what you need from them.

OP from story one, what's happening there is your DM is trying to cripple your party, this is likely the build up for a dmpc entrance or else your dm has a player vs dm mentality, you need to leave the table immediately

If you say "I roll for..." you're doing it wrong. The DM asks for you to roll when rolling is necessary. The idea is that you roleplay out your actions until a moment occurs in which the outcome is uncertain. At that point, the DM asks you to roll. The outcome will never be uncertain when it comes to player-on-player social interaction, because the players have ultimate authority to decide how their characters react to things. Thus, the DM will never have you roll on such things. Even with NPCs, you can't just roll to seduce. You have to act it out, then wait for the DM to ask you to roll if it's necessary. If it feels awkward to do, maybe don't try to seduce NPCs in the first place. There's not actually a "seduction" roll, for that matter. This is actually how it works if you read the DMG's section on social interaction.

First story: sympathies to that DM because we're only getting the player side of it, and the player goals as described by the 'victim player' are chaotic/incomprehensible, going to pretty nonheroic means to make money in what appears to be a desperately-poor region, and extending massive trust despite this. Meanwhile rather than keeping an eye on his loaned-out sentimental-value lute, the player runs around reacting to everything and giving the obviously poor and desperate tiefling child with a one-string lute a perfect opportunity to run off with a significantly better instrument, then complains when the child does so. Sure, the DM probably was getting their point across poorly. Mismanaged expectations such as 'you camped in a godforsaken place without setting a watch' and probably 'you should have looked for a safer camping spot, shame you're going through the wilderness with no ranger or druid' sort of thing. I can well imagine the DM reacting to the player's lack of sensible precautions by punishment. Is that DM vs. Player? Possibly, or possibly it's "you reap what you sow". Most likely it's a failure to manage expectations, and that's largely going to be on the DM. Still, we're not getting both sides here, and I doubt the players are blameless victims of a hostile DM.

The last story is just...dude. It's understandable that you don't want to force your players, especially friends. But you will be sitting there 4 hours a week dealing with this if you won't confront her. Even as a new dm at the start of the campaign you held session 0...you had session zero, right? If you had you must said something like "and about your characters: Here's the books you can use, here's the alignments you can have ( true neutral and up), your character MUST want to work with a group and have a reason to it. Also some backgrounds like 1-2 paragraphs with booletpoints would be appreciated with random simple magic item if you will make them in time." DONE.

What's wrong about wearing a Trench Coat in the tropics? It protects you from the pesky insects that carry deadly diseases, aswell as scrapes and bruises. It can also hold more items like keys, food, knifes, rope etc. than a T-shirt.

Nothing is wrong with trench coats, it's just very stereotypical for Neck Beards to wear a black trench coat even when it's not appropriate (like summer time in the tropics) because they think it makes them look cool and intimidating. Story #1 - Kudos to the Party for their efforts to make the best of multiple bad situations. I've no idea where this DM is coming from. Story #2 - A Player that gets touchy about other people seeing his die rolls is always a red flag. This one clearly needs basic lessons about females and female anatomy besides. Story #3 - I approve. The only sensible way to deal with this player. Unfortunate that things didn't work out afterwards. Story #4 - The DM has tried being nice, and it hasn't worked. A sitdown is definitely called for - point out that the game isn't all about this one character, it is about the group, and this passive-aggressive edgelord (edgelady?) cr#p is not working for anybody else. Simple choice - start actually playing the game or leave.

Being "few of words and slow to trust" doesn't mean disinterested in everything going on around them. It's not, in my opinion, removing player agency to insist that they roll a character who would be willing to band together with the other characters and who the other characters would want to associate with. There is an implicit agreement between the players that their characters will adventure together, it's incumbent on them to roll up suitable characters for that implicit agreement.

Wrong advice for the first story. It isn't time to find a new table. It is, however, time for the players to make an ultimatum: give back the lute, supplies, and carriage parts, and stop trying to "win" D&D with his bullshit rulings, or he's out. You don't need a DM that just wants to make it so the players have to beg the almighty DM for a Deus ex Machina (which is most likely going to be in the form of a DMPC), and doesn't care that no one else is having fun. 9:33 That's not boring; that's just normal. You don't have to play a character that's as different from you as possible. In fact, your characters should have at least some trace of you in them since you're the one that created them, and it's a lot easier to play as them that way. 10:07 I knew I heard this story before. It's a pretty old one, and it's just as bad as it was back then.

It's fine to call them out, it's fine to talk to someone like the DM to talk to or kick out the pest, and you should just not reliant to the advances. That guy is a problem that needs address and not ignored, especially if you're noticing this and not being the one harassed. You have agency in that case, as shitty as it might be, because people are likely doubt things if it comes down to a He Said/She Said situation. This isn't much of a thing tolerate. People should be able to have fun at a game space and sex pests should take the hint to calm the f down.

First Story: This is just torture, simple as that. Dark Souls and Souls like games are difficult but fair and give you plenty of opportunity to find a strategy that works, and rewards you for it. This has no reward, and in a healthy S&M relationship there is a safe word to keep things from getting out of hand. 2nd Story: I suddenly feel as if I suddeny have a whole lot of class for some reason 3rd story: Why would someone think this a great idea? Agree that OP did the right thing, and also not forcing the game to continue the game after the mood died. 4th. My first thought is she dosn't want to play. Ask her why she said she wanted to play if she is not willing to paricipate?

The only instances I require spell components is typically for wizards, or anything that requires something rare or expensive like a large gemstone. Anyone with a magic bloodline or related to a magical creature or being is what I consider an instant pass. There's already a ton to keep track of, and I would be more likely to use components as a bonus to their roll. OR, if someone is into the components aspect, I rule that if they regularly use the spell, and typically succeed, it becomes innate to them, and they can naturally do it without components.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again there are only four times when a no-win scenario is okay.... 1. A Star Trek game set in the last stage of an academy game that is actually going to transition into a 'first flight' campaign. In that case, at least give the players the option to hack the simulator/holodeck. (I've done this three times and none of my players did. I think one of the medical cadets would have... if I hadn't made their version of the Maru test different. They're be beamed into a fully loaded sickbay with patients with varying degree of injury. The only tricorders they'd have are the ones there. They'd have to run a triage unit for two whole six-hour duty shifts with casualties from both Starfleet, Klingons (who in TNG/late DS9 era are allies), Romulans (late DS9 so kinda of allies... but are they? Are they?) and Cardassians. (Known enemies). During the last 45 minutes of the test, they'd be down to two patients. A fellow cadet NPC who is a longtime friend. He could probably make it another few hours, but the next duty shift would have a real hard time-- even with the guy helping the docs out already by going into a Vulcan healing trance. The other would be a Cardassian General who is vital to the peace talks who is in need of immediate care. None of the medics were that familiar with Cardassian physiology, but the guy would die before anyone who could do anything could arrive. it is a test of character, save your friend and teammate, who you know beyond a shadow of a doubt you can save... or at least try to save someone who is either a potential enemy or maybe on a legitimate mission of peace. (Oh... and if you hadn't guessed, the reasons why they only had medical tricorders from that room... they were actually beamed into a holodeck. The tricorders and every single patient are specifically designed holograms.... including holographic guts and innards. I'm that screwed up.) 2. In superhero games... but only in that sort of 'Peter Parker can either stop the villain or take Aunt May to the cardiologist' sort of way. 3. If you're playing the prologue to a Werewolf or Vampire game. Your characters are supposed to die so they can be born. 4. You're playing Paranoia... where not only is dying encouraged, but you get points for the most creative kills/deaths. But in theory Paranoia can't be more than a one or two shot, so XP is a bit like points on Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Random rant, but I really do not like when stories use letters in place of names. If you can't think of a random BS name to use, either use one from another property, use the players' classes, or use a name generator. There are many, many ways to give an identity to the characters of a story, but using letters instead of full names is just plain lazy. Feel like the subreddit should make it a rule to have stories not use letters in place of names just to avoid this problem.

Lone wolf isn’t even a problem yet. They might get into it more once the other players are there and even if they don’t a strong silent type isn’t that bad. I’d mostly give them physical encounters they can’t ignore or items. A letter delivered to them, a person asking them binary “do you want x or y?” questions, being attacked in the name of someone their character knows. Make it simple to understand.
