This Bitesize clip is from episode 127 of the podcast with Wim Hof aka The Iceman. Wim believes taking a cold shower each morning can lessen stress and anxiety as well as regulate your mood whilst also giving other important health benefits
Wim has been described as a ‘trailblazer for human potential’ and a ‘modern legend’. He has performed incredible feats such as withstanding extreme temperatures and climbing Kilimanjaro wearing only a pair of shorts.
Wim believes that the cold is powerful and that taking a cold shower each morning can tackle cardiovascular related diseases, depression and stress. He explains the best method for taking a cold shower and how to get started.
Wim believes the benefits far outweigh the investment and that by embracing the cold you can boost your energy, find inner peace and take on any day.
(*As we discuss and as Wim makes clear in all his work, please follow his instructions carefully in order to carry out his techniques safely. It’s powerful stuff!)

I started suffering from horrible panic attacks last year. I couldn't drive, couldn't do my job, and all I thought about was when the next attack was coming. Then I found this man, Wim Hoff. I started taking cold showers, and walking in shorts and a t-shirt in the winter. Within 2 months, I had zero stress, anxiety, and most importantly, the panic attacks stopped. Without Wim Hoff I would be in a dark dark place in my life, but now I'm thriving.

@@merabbram5688 I've fell out of practice in the last 3 months. I tend to have less anxiety and panic during the summer. But my exercise is still at a high level which helps. My mind does not do well in the winter, so this month I have to get back into cold showers and cold plunges to get ready for the cold seasons. I still maintain the breathing and cold showers, mixed with exercise is the best cure for panic attacks in the world.

I started suffering chronic fatigue and brain fog badly around my mid 30's. I used to be a health and fitness professional, obsessed with it all and KNEW what feeling good and being energized was all about. Somewhere along the way of being a father, working very demanding physical jobs and trying to keep up with my fitness goals... things fell apart. I tried everything to try and alleviate my brain fog and CF, I quit caffeine, I tried cycling caffeine, I tried eliminating Soy, Wheat... all sorts of dietary changes. Nothing seemed to help (in fact the months off caffeine were the absolute worse, just zero pick up at all and constantly feeling like I had just woken up lasting all day every day, this was utter hell). Earlier this year I discovered cold showers. IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. Once I take one and step out I literally feel a decade younger and the veil of fog gone. It is the real deal and nothing has changed or assisted in fixing my problems as much as this.

I started taking cold showers about 12 days ago. Around day 5 i was dreading the idea of washing :)). Pushed through it. Now i am looking forward to it. It's crazy how the body adapts. Wim's right when he says anybody can do it. All is needed is to get out of your comfort zone. In my personal experience that is where "life" happens - at the border between your comfort zone. You don't need to go too far out, but gently push against that barrier every day and you will be amazed how large "your world" becomes in time.

Great job! I'm on my ninth year : ) You'll get little tricks as you go along that help. I've found it's harder mentally than physically. The physical sensation is very doable, but its the mind that is going crazy! : ) Right before I start the cold water now, I come up with something to daydream about. Breakfast, my day, my cats . . . Some story. . . A song in my head. . . Like, when you brush your teeth, or wash dishes, you kind of daydream cause it's boring, for example. So, I have a mental scenario to focus on, now that I can physically go into auto mode. And breathe OUT a lot, all the air out, like blowing through a straw, helps the sting. Hope that helps : )

One really weird benefit is that when you get out of the shower, the mirror is not covered in steam, so you can actually see your wet face and just stare at yourself for a minute *** UPDATE been doing this over 2 months now and I will never take a warm shower again.. my body craves the cold water.. so does my soul :) I have a feeling I will probably never be sick again. @@Jacob-fj7xp Hi Jacob and thank you for your question. For a year out, you are doing amazing by the fact that you can use a computer and type. It took me 2 years to understand the difference between a fork and a phone and that each had a particular function. So, I am truly impressed with your progress. When I started taking cold showers, I would enter the shower with warm water streaming down and gradually turned the temperature down during the shower. I kept it cold for a few minutes and got out. I started noticing that my balance improved and started turning the temperature lower and sooner into the shower. Now, my brain is programmed to recognize that the cold is my friend and I start it cold and never raise the temperature. I then walk around in the snow, with boots on and only a sundress and I LOVE that my brain is so alive and my day improves so much after that and I am never cold, never! This will help you and is easy if you don't approach it with thought of how cold and uncomfortable it is going to be. I also swim in ice water and love that as well. You CAN do this, you CAN.

This is absolutely true. I have been doing this daily for 40 years, and at 72, I have the same level of physical vitality and mental clarity as I did when I was 30. This should be the foundation to build your day on. Ice baths and 40 day fasts are another level, and have amazing health benefits as well, but everyone should start with a cold shower in the morning. Start by rubbing your body down under the chilly water-no need to stand there passively!

I'm on my ninth year of daily cold showers, discovered Wim after the first couple years. I came to it naturally, and so did he. Remember, he felt an inkling out of nowhere, to get in the cold pond outside, watch early videos. It was a natural, spontaneous and persistent invitation. I love it so much I can't stop myself from talking : ) . . . I built a wood sauna, outdoor dunk tank, roll in the snow and had a goal to swim in the frozen river twelve months straight. I swam twenty four months in a row the first two years! : ) I used to dread the winters and the cold. Now, I put ice packs in my big shower bucket every morning, to make it More cold! : ) I live in the great plains u.s. with bitter harsh winters. Cold water, every day, roll in the snow 0 degrees, love it! Then I hum and sing out loud while I make breakfast, ha, feels amazing! I call it a cold sizzle! Like, when you get hit with a snowball, that hot/cold sizzle all over your skin, big drugs released!! go get em, Free!!! Research the breathing, important to have some procedures to follow physically, mentally, if you're new to it. Figure those out. My first shower goals were two minutes, big achievement, you'll feel like a King, (or a Queen!) . . . . The hardest part of a five minute cold shower is the first five minutes : ) Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been listening to Wim for about two years now, what a wonderful influence this gentleman has had on the world. I have a 1000 litre IBC in the garden and each morning I get a cold bath. It has changed my life, mind and body. For the first two weeks I had incredible pain in my feet from the cold, but then it went. I suffered from PTSD from being in the army and it’s helped me recover, it’s helped me quiet my mind and combined with the breathing it’s allowed my to feel human and alive again.... I’ve also become immune to the cold pretty much, I live in England which can be quite glum, but I hardly notice it. People have said ‘ are you not cold’ as I’m wearing shorts and T-shirt in freezing winter and I stop and have a feel...I’m just fine. I took up weightlifting one year ago and I believe taking cold baths has helped me stay injury free by reducing inflammation... There is sooo much talk about the relationship between illness and inflammation. I recommend cold showers/baths to every, it sets you up for the day and sets your mental clarity... Best wishes to everyone

Cold showers bring so many benefits from self discipline to increased muscle mass and concentration it’s mad and it’s something they don’t teach us in school along with semen retention. I've been doing the Wim Hof method along with taking cold showers and doing meditation for 13 months now, since the start of the covid lockdowns, and I have not been sick in the slightest once and I feel healthier than ever. Thank you so much Wim, in my eyes you are a Saint. Thank you St. Wim Hof ✌️

Connecting a hose to a cold tap and sticking up up your arse is even more beneficial plus it's a nice experience. I learned this secret from Tibetan monks, some of them are 200yrs of age and have never been ill. Give it ago . Let me know how you get on and remember to tell your friends about amazing technique for keeping healthy. I started in October with 15 seconds cold showers and that was not easy. I have always hated the cold. But I fell in love with it. I also did the breathing and it changed me straight away. Still doing it every day. I live 10km from Copenhagen and I take a short swim in the sea every day now. Water was 0.8 C yesterday. 1.5 minute in now is easy and does hardly need recovery. If I push myself I can be in longer it just depends on if I can afford to be cold and tired after the dip.

Congratulations for your interview. I have seen it many times, sent it to friends and I am actually practicing "the Cold Shower a Day" since 6 months ago. Before this I ended my hot shower with Cold Water, so in a way I was a little prepared. And I felt always (without knowing Wim Hof) that I got some energy from it, sharp in the brain, peaceful and my skin telling me "it was OKAY! And I am always happy to see your videos. You choose good people for it, let them talk, explain and you make good Questions! CONGRATULATIONS! 👌👏👏👏

Thank you for this amazing interview. My Peak Flow (lung health) has gone from 300 to 370. And I hope to get higher. This is from someone that had Asthma (lung problems) for 48 years. I managed to cure Asthma with organic plants. But thanks to Win, I am now improving and strengthening my lungs. My friend is an ex nurse, it is thanks to her that I started to question my diet, and she also recently sent me videos by Win Hof. What a great man. I also love that he promotes bringing back innocence. Our children deserve a better world that treasures them and allows kids a real childhood.

I'm 59 and been taking cold showers daily, and practicing Wim Hof breathing method for 1 1/2 years now. I do 3 minutes cold shower (at the end of hot shower) and 5 to 7 rounds of breathing technique with breathe retentions up to 3 minutes, by round 7....no longer use my sleep apnea machine, and haven't had a cold, or allergic reaction since I began. I do believe the cold shower is most beneficial. Hated cold showers at first, but quickly come to enjoy them now

Yes its the Canadian winter now and I am into week 7 of cold showers . Although its getting easier , I still need to do lots of mind gymnastics before I crank the dial to full cold water which is about 5C coming from the outside pipes. But the feeling after is very powerful . I 100% fully agree with what he is saying.

My grandma passed away in 2017 at age 101. Throughout her life she always took cold water shower daily at around 6am. Except for last 5 yrs she was completely healthy for a century of her life. Beside cold shower she never missed taking sunlight in the mornings (one to two hours depending upon the season of the year). Edit: Even in last 5yrs she was not having any major illness. Only occasional indigestion, some balance problem (in walking) and once hospitalized for gallbladder issue. Her memory was 100% perfect. Eyesight and hearing were 80% good.

@@sneakerhead2830 sunlight exposure is equally important. Understand, all life forms including humans are born to live in sunlight during daytime but our modern lives keeps us away from the sun. We are taught that sunlight gives us Vit-D but that's incomplete truth. There hundreds of biological reactions that happen in body bcoz of sun exposure, so do not ignore the precious light of God.
