Glad someone is reading what TC is thinking/hearing. TC is an entity that rarely has the pulse of every facet of the recreational/commercial world so glad you are there for the recreational flyers.

28 days from consuming a 2.5mg CBD gummy for pain relief is ridiculous. (I'm grounded until spring!)

CBD is not THC, and is metabolized much faster (7-10 days). In fact, their mental impact lasts only 6-8 hours.

Zero tolerance TC: There was a breach of one of the conditions for the MAAC exemption resulting in exemption invalidation. There have been 2 law enforcement RPAS operation violations on record that could have caused death and injury. By these metrics, TC should have completely banned law enforcement from owning/operation RPAS. And the suggested by 'many" stakeholders for increased rules for toy class sub250 - shuts down TC credibility completely. Disgusting. Thanks for reporting Don.

Whilst I am not into cannabis... the actual specifications of the threshold of impairment as set out in Bill C46 really are out there, along with the 28 days... that whole thing needs a rethink. Great review of the Report Don. Thank you, as always.

Thanks for this detailed summary. I'm not super optimistic. There will be more rules and more enforcement. That's probably just inevitable with so many ne w drone operators.

Great capture as always, Don! After reading the report myself, I'm concerned the comment "Many stakeholders were looking for ... more rules around micro-drones..." is foreshadowing more regulations around this class, and I'm worried that the folks that want them to be governed under the same rules as drones in the 250g to 25 kg class may win out. And I think that this will severely restrict the use of these drones without much (any?) evidence they are the cause of actual harms to public safety or security.
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 10 ай бұрын
Without ANY evidence. But all that said, I would be stunned if they actually did impose seriously restrictive rules.

Love your videos , I live in BC if I wanted to start a small school here to support people in learning how to safely fly drones and pass the basic exam. I have a straight forward course that I designed. I also want to start using my drones for commercials on social media. So I was wondering what business license do I apply for for this field of business? Digital content creator and a trainer?

Thanks Don. I’m reading the report at this time. So far,I guess it’s not the worst government doc I’ve ever read. In my opinion they need to leave micro drones alone. There’s really not very much risk with the mini 4 (for example) everything doesn’t have to be regulated into the ground.

as a new sub 250 gram owner. (mini 3 pro) Is it worth keeping??, since it seems new laws are coming for them? Your other video was talking about no flights at any altitude within 3nm of airports and 1nm of helipads. Well I'm in kitchener, ontario and every farmer has a dirt runway. Is it going to be more a hassle as a fun hobby?
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 9 ай бұрын
Yes, it is definitely worth keeping your sub250g drone! While there may be some advocating for more regulation, I believe TC is smarter than that. Regardless, new regulations would be many years ahead. Safe and happy flying!!

Hi Don, it's really great what you're doing here, your info is very appreciated. I've been really interested in getting my first drone(specifically the dji mini 4 pro), but often asking myself if it's worth it if new rules come into effect thus being more of a hassle to fly in the future. (I have flown my friends mini 2 so I do have some experience). Also, I'm in Quebec and wondering if the rules are in any way different, I can't seem to find any info on that. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 8 ай бұрын
The drone rules are at the federal government level, so the rules in Quebec are the same as everywhere. That said, you will need to check for any take-off restrictions...as per anywhere. For example, I was in Quebec City on the weekend and noticed the 'no drones' zone at the Citadelle. The Mini 4 Pro is a great drone....and there won't be any overly restricted rules any time soon: go for it!! Here's a good video for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqfRmI1vm7uEf7M

I can definitely understand wanting an easier and more streamlined process for authorized flight during or at an advertised event. The one thing TC doesn't do is specify different types of "advertised events" and which are subject to the SFOC requirement. TC lobs all advertised events into a singular category but they aren't all the same, a cities Christmas or pride parade is different than a car meet etc. Essentially the regulation in my opinion is much too broad in scope, any type of event advertised in anyway, whether it be on social media or paper fliers falls under the same regulation even if said event isn't likely to draw an overly substantial crowd or be prone to increased airspace occupancy/concern. The regulation should 100% allow operations without an SFOC for lower-risk "advertised events", and bypass the SFOC requirement if the operator is provided authorization to fly at an event by the events main coordination team.

It doesn't sound to me like things are going to change for the good, I take those defensive statements peppered through the report as an overall sign that they are pretty set on proceeding as they planned.

Honestly TC Canada should not be in charge of any of the regulations, leave it to NavCanada. What an awful department. Like zero real world view on drones
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 10 ай бұрын
That's not how it works. Transport Canada defines the rules. NAV Canada manages the airspace. And if it was actually an option, I would stick with TC...they actually listen.

@@DonJoyce interesting I find that odd considering in U.K. it’s CAA and not Transport for London (equivalent ish) same with EU it’s EASA and not individual transport companies. It still a struggle with TC like most governmental departments.

Regarding micros: the way TC backs up their 250g cutoff is 'everyone else is doing it.' When's the last time that rationale worked for you? What happened the first time you tried running that one on your Mom? C'mon, TC - do better. Apparently, the origin of this 250g value has been linked to a French Army ballistics paper - from the 19th century. High school physics [ ½mv² ] indicates that 250g of mass doesn't have very much kinetic energy at the low velocities that micros fly, hence the rationale behind upping the cutoff to 1 kg. Even 1 kg of mass has to be moving at a serious clip before it is lethal. It's all about velocity, not mass. It's time to up the limit to 1kg, imho.
@homewardboundphotos
@homewardboundphotos 10 ай бұрын
What they should do, is introduce an intermediary classification of 250g - 1500g which allows unlicensed flyers to operate under 30 meters above the tallest freestanding structure. If an aircraft is skimming by over a populated area 90 feet above the tallest building, he's got much bigger problems than my 1kg drone.
