Recorded at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California in 1982, this concert was the last date on "Farewell Tour". It was an emotional night and would be the last gig for 5 years. The set contained all their best loved hits and they were joined by founder member Tom Johnston for the last two tracks, with former members John Hartman (also from the original line-up), Tiran Porter and Michael Hossack coming on stage for the celebratory finale of "Listen To The Music". The band are in fantastic form and rise to the occasion magnificently, they can rarely have delivered a better performance throughout their distinguished career. An album called "Farewell Tour" was released by Warners in 1983 but this featured tracks recorded at several different concerts across the tour. This is the first time the audio of their actual final concert has been available.
On CD format, four additional tracks from the concert have also been reinstated as bonus tracks. On the DVD format, the Bonus Features offer five tracks from the concert that were cut from the original 1982 film: "Little Darling (I Need You)", "One Step Closer", "Dependin' On You", "Real Love" and "No Stoppin' Us Now" plus interviews with the band members and manager.
TRACKLISTING - DVD
1) Listen To The Music 2) Sweet Maxine 3) Rockin' Down The Highway 4) You Belong To Me 5) Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me) 6) Long Train Runnin' 7) Black Water 8) Minute By Minute 9) Slat Key Soquel Rag 10) I Keep Forgettin' 11) Out On The Streets 12) What A Fool Believes 13) Jesus Is Just Alright 14) Takin' It To The Streets 15) China Grove 16) Listen To The Music

The whole band is still as great as ever - but I have to say, in particular Tom Johnston's voice is still as crisp as it was in the 70's. Incredible.

This concert is NOT from 1982. No Michael McDonald, Cornelius Bumpus, Willie Weeks or Bobby LaKind. They all played in the 1982 Farewell Concert in Berkeley and there was no horn section in 1982. Tom Johnston, Tiran Porter, John Hartman and Michael Hossack all came back to join them for the final song in 1982. This is from the 2004 at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. The band has been through more changes than you can count but this may have been the best line-up ever. Now both drummers and the bass player are gone and the new guys just aren't the same Doobie Brothers to me.

Oh to be young and naive. ""The chord structure of it made me think of something positive, so the lyrics that came out of that were based on this utopian idea that if the leaders of the world got together on some grassy hill somewhere and either smoked enough dope or just sat down and just listened to the music and forgot about all this other bullshit, the world would be a much better place. It was very utopian and very unrealistic (laughs). It seemed like a good idea at the time." -Tom Johnston

The comments about this concert are connected to the wrong video/concert. This concert was not in 1982 at the Greek Theater. In that concert, Tom Johnston was only around for the last couple of songs and the band lineup was markedly different. I am pretty sure that this video is at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in 2004.
