@@JillPalmer-ek8gn Hi Jill 😊 Since DPDR is fundamentally an anxiety-based condition, the techniques in the DP Manual are designed to address the underlying anxiety that's causing the symptoms. This helps ease both the DPDR symptoms and general anxiety too 👍 www.dpmanual.com/about/depersonalization-definition-what-is-it/

Thank you so much! I've had no idea for the better part of 12 years on what I had. I thought it was Agoraphobia or some untreatable diagnosis or disorder. Earlier this year, I smoked a weed pen which caused DP/DR and I said enough was enough. I hit the gym six days a week, lost 50 lbs, meditate every single day, I eat so much healthier, I drank and currently drink a lot less alcohol. This was all without truly knowing what I had. I read Hope and Help for your Nerves for panic attacks and Atomic Habits to get on a healthy daily regimen and those assisted me immensely. About 10 days ago, during the American Election, I had one of the worst episodes of DP/DR, I felt like nothing was real, that I was in a dream, that my eyes weren't working, I was dying, in a coma, needed to wake up etc. I have done so much work this past year and grew so much and that was without the knowledge or not truly understanding what DP/DR is. I'm still learning about the two and their differences, which I may have, but this video and both of your journeys were as close to a 1:1 to my experiences as it can get. Thank You both so much! My question to you or anyone recovered would be, how do you deal with it when it comes back in a flash, almost without you realizing it? I know for the most part when it does come, but if I'm driving, going for runs or walks, traveling to places etc. Sometimes I can walk out the door no problem, other times it feels like gravity has changed. It sometimes hits before I can make the proper decision. At that point it feels like I'm clinging on to any bit of information I can remember in that moment to reassure myself. I'm excited to read Shaun's articles as well as purchase the manual. Thanks again Shaun and Thank you Sam for the incredible insight! It's good to know that I'm not alone and never was or will be

Hey Alex, thanks for your comment 😊❤️ When those sudden flashes of DP/DR hit, especially during activities like driving or running, remind yourself that it’s just a temporary spike in anxiety. Acknowledge it calmly, focus away from it and continue what you're doing without overthinking. The more you treat these episodes as harmless, the less frequently they’ll occur. You’ve already made good progress, so trust in your recovery process. You can and will get 100% back to normal! 👉www.dpmanual.com/articles/back-to-normal-after-depersonalization/

I know there’s controversy online about DP/dr gurus, and manuals and all the marketing that goes on around that, and that can be debated for sure. But, your interviews are probably one of the main reasons as to why I came out of DP/DR and your overall straight talk on the matter. It gave me overwhelming hope, which was the fuel for my recovery.

Hey Thomas, thanks for your comment and I'm very sorry to hear about your father ❤️ So I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual. And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

Shaun, I had a bad weed trip yesterday and am now experiencing everything you described about DP. It’s very scary. I’m a person that always needs to be in control. I always had random events of DP that would end in seconds, but now it’s all been amplified. Weed definitely is not for me. Hoping this all ends soon.

Hey, thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to hear you've been having a difficult time ❤️ But don’t worry, that all sounds like a very typical case of weed-induced DPDR to me. I went through the same thing myself! 🙋 I know it can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you 😊 You can and will recover and get 100% back to normal 👉 www.dpmanual.com/articles/back-to-normal-after-depersonalization/

@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual Ай бұрын
Yep, as with all anxiety-based conditions t's quite common for the symptoms of DPDR to intensify when you're sick. Illness can act as a stressor on the body, which may heighten anxiety levels and, in turn, exacerbate DPDR symptoms. This reaction is part of the body’s natural response to stress and is temporary. When I remember memories, I do not recognize myself with them I am amazed at the movement of my body and what life is I don't feel like I know anything about myself I feel as if everything is happening on its own and I have no control I often convince myself that I am not this or that person, and this stupid idea bothers me a lot, even though I know that I am not him. I often ask myself how words come out and ideas are formed Is all this anxiety and will I know myself again when I recover?

@burhannaveed1911
@burhannaveed1911 Ай бұрын
 @Clandestinecon No worries at all you are never bothering anyone by asking such a question. Improving your though habits really boils down to a few things. 1) You need to understand that DP/DR is simply a symptom of anxiety. At some point that anxiety was triggered and you experienced DP/DR and started over reacting to DP/DR. In the end DP is just a natural reaction to stress. You need to remind yourself when you have intrusive thoughts (ex. thinking you are crazy, time is passing so fast, thinking your life is over) that none of that is true and you are simply anxious. Over time, once you accept what DP is and focus on removing yourself from these thoughts you will see it fade away I promise. If you feel high levels of DP you just gotta tell yourself "ah damn im feeling it again" and STOP yourself right there. For me one of the thoughts which messed with me the most is that I messed up my life. Looking at other people's recoveries and experiencing it myself made me realize that was NEVER the case. Another intrusive thought was that my memmory was fading before my eyes. The truth is that when you are focused on DP and anxious, you are not thinking about the things around you. The list goes on and on, but all of these strange affects of DP are NOT as a result of you being messed up. 2) You are probably wondering how do remove myself from these thoughts? The best way is to remind yourself what DP is as stated earlier and then DISTRACT YOURSELF by keeping yourself busy and staying on a daily schedule. For me keeping myself busy with school/work, gym, video games really helped me take my focus off of dp/dr. Initially it might seem impossible to concentrate on these activities but as you keep doing them more on more you will find that you will forget about dp dr for small amounts of time while keeping yourself busy. This further proves the point that DP is just temporary because you only feel it when you remember you have it. If you keep on this cycle, eventually those few seconds without DP become longer and longer until you almost never feel it and when you do you have the coping mechanisms to move around it. Eventually you wont even remember what it feels like. In fact, describing this to you right now, I am really looking back trying to remember because it is very hard to. From a someone who recovered from DP to someone who is experiencing it, you will 1000% recover! Wish you the best! ❤

@@burhannaveed1911 Thank you so much! ❤️ I feel much better now compared to two months ago. Back then, it was a completely different story, I remember that I couldnt calm down. But after that the problem became that whenever I managed to cool down, I thought the whole thing was over, But then I’d go back to deep thinking, which made me really scared, thoughts about things like the afterlife and stuff like that, but I convinced myself that I was afraid because I wasn’t fully recovered. Now, I’m at a stage where I forget for a while, but then I remember again, When you mentioned that this is caused by anxiety, it made me realize that I’ve been feeling nervous lately without any specific reason (it’s not because of DP I’ve started to care less about it )(maybe because my body used to feel anxious all the time ) But now I understand from ur message that I have to keep going on being busy and obviously not to be anxious otherwise I’ll be the same . Lastly thank you so much again, and I just felt like this is a safe space to share my story .

But a week ago I started tonfeel strange, like I wasnt myself, Im there but not there at the same time Ive had the existential questions and I feel like everything I do is through a movie or something its strange, Im not sure why it started a week ago after being fine for months but now its 24/7 from the moment I wake up to the moment I fall asleep. Im scared and not sure what to do and I just want to feel normal again. It feels like im in that bad trip all over again where I felt like I was going insane and if nothing is real. I try to distract myself in order to get rid of the thoughts but they continue to pop into my head and I have obsessive thinking. I wonder If I will ever be able to get rid of these thoughts and return to normal again.

Hey, thanks for your comment ❤️ Don’t worry, that all sounds like a very typical case of weed-induced DPDR to me. It's quite common for a second panic attack (which feels like you're high again) to happen some time after the initial trigger event. In fact, that's what happened with me! 😊 I know it can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you 😊 You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website 👉 www.dpmanual.com
