DC started out as dark-rockpop influenced by jrock. They've also produced tracks for video games, Japanese anime and kdrama OSTs. Over the years, they evolved and introduced electronic elements to get that more contemporary sound you hear today. And I totally agree with you, everything is well mixed and consistently blended without straying away too much from the theme. It's mixed genre done right.

Dreamcatcher is the genre. Their producers are geniuses. Leez and Ollounder doing this naturally. Like their intros. Not many reactor take the time to listen their intros, which is a big mistake. In intros Leez and Ollounder just plain flexing. You'll love the diversity of Dystopia: The Tree of Language. Easily my favorite album of all time. And I'm listening to music nearly for 30 years. :-)

They're internationally popular, yes, enough to be the first kpop act to be invited to Primavera sound festival this year, not so much in korea though, rock is a bit heavy for their taste. They've really had to struggle to stick to their sounds considering the industry kept telling them to drop the rock sound, right up until they popularised it enough for the other companies to try and get in on that genre (usually somewhat uninspired attempts but there are exceptions). Many of them do have a basic training with musical instruments as all trained singers do, Handong has training in drums, Siyeon, JiU, Yoohyeon and Dami can play the piano, Siyeon dabbled a bit in both the drums and bass back in her highschool rock band and Yoohyeon and Dami did mention learning the guitar (no idea what happened to that). They are mostly involved in the composition and lyrics for their music and while they do perform their concerts with live bands they don't actually play instruments on stage. They REALLY shine when it comes to choreo and stage presence though.

FYI again : They also said during their times in a variety show called Weekly Idol that this song is about a love-turns-into-obsessive and toxic(?) relationship. The word of "BE" in a form of capital words came from Hanja word that means "sadness", and so it represent with their hands gesture that symbolizing the word. And one interesting fact about this mv, it was inspired from a horror movie called Us. Once again, greetings from InSomnia of Indonesia branch😎🤟

Personnaly, i think that DREAMCATCHER is one of the most complete group in Kpop. They have strong vocals and one really good rapper. Their MV are really beautiful and they have their own style (Based on pop and rock mix, but they had some other styles in other songs (some metal style, edm, even reggae ...) They also are really good dancers, and their choregraphies are quite nice. But, i think this level of work is common in Kpop, you can see it with a lot of groups. I recommand you to watch their songs : - SCREAM (First song of a trilogy / But ODD EYE (The 1st song you watch from them) was the end of the trilogy - CHASE ME

Yo, Steven just like me who enjoy the music/song first, rather than watch the music video or visual. That's why I have fallen into Dreamcatcher. Dreamcatcher came to me when I got bored about KPop, then they come with their unique IDENTITY. Now? I'm obsessed.. Trust me😏 if you like a group cause their visual and member, you can easy to change your favorite with the new one, cause the new one more young or more pretty or more fresh. BUT, if you like the music first, you'll feel sick if you don't hear their music. 😌😌

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

Just here to clarify a few things... 1) While some of them play instruments casually, they do not play them as part of their act. Maybe you're thinking of Rolling Quartz, an all girl rock band that recently did a cover of one of Dreamcatcher's songs. 2) When it comes to kpop, 30 million views is actually at the lower end of the spectrum. The really popular groups will easily have 300, 400 or 500+ thousand views. Some groups will reach 30 million views within the first week (or even the first couple days) of a release. Not to diminish Dreamcatcher's accomplishments in any way, but they're kind of an underdog in the kpop industry. Their concept and sound is not what you'd call mainstream in South Korea. 3) As others have pointed out, Dreamcatcher only has one full album called Dystopia: The Tree of Language, They are set to release another one some time in April. Most kpop groups will focus on mini albums instead of releasing full albums like we're used to here in the west. However, they'll release 2, 3 and even sometimes 4 minis per year.

Dude they are the only group with own identity, in all their song they have rock sound mix with other sounds, and I saw them live thay are amazing singers and dancers, you definitley should check all thei songs they have rock sound, metal, and another sounds in their bsides!

just some background fyi... at least some of the members can play instruments but they don't do so because their live performances are about choreo and not a band atmosphere. part of the reason is they are after all in the 'kpop' universe and rock/bands are not popular in korea so while they do go a lot outside what's standard in their country, they still try to make it somewhat digestible for their local audiences. several of them have composed songs and I know the ones that did can play the piano at least. there's only one short clip, but their main vocal siyeon can play the piano quite well. in addition to piano which is almost by default for musicians, other members have played and/or own guitar, electric guitar, and drums. the thing is when mentioned, they always downplay their ability to play instruments so no one really knows how well they can play. personally I rather see them performing choreo than playing instruments at their concerts \:D/

The girls are always downplaying themselves. They are just too humble. Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t go into their instrumentation knowledge to keep people from asking them to play since that isn’t what their group is about. Cause I think if people found out they were actually good they may ask them to do so at concerts.

dreamcatcher sound is huuuuugely influenced by jrock, that's why most of their titletracks and some b-sides literally sound like anime openings. Oooohhh you'll like them I promise and yes, they have a horror concept, I recommend Chase Me to understand.

A lot of the aesthetics of this music video play homage to the Jordan Peele movie "Us". I feel like even the instrumental of the song takes inspiration from the movie's soundtrack. On another note I think you would really like the Korean Girl Band Rolling Quartz. They did a cover of one of Dreamcatcher's songs and that is what first got me into the group. They also have covered a lot of western artists music as well. I think you would really like them.

I love Dreamcatcher. In fact I have a tattoo of one of their logos. That said, the reason I got into KPop is because of a K-rock group, Rolling Quartz. Check out Blaze and their cover of Dreamcatcher’s “Good Night”. Btw, I also have Rolling Quartz’s logo tattooed on me as well. Those girls changed my life.

I hope this means it won't be another three weeks before you react to them again. The same songwriting duo have created almost all their songs so the music it very consistent and has gradually evolved since their debut with Chase Me. It took them a long time to attract a following because of the power of the music which a lot of Koreans find disturbing. They have more international fans than Korean ones. Koreans aren't big fans of rock music. Dreamcatcher don't play instruments.
