@@spearspearspear pretty much everyone will get deployed within their contract cycle. as for the separation: you're going to be separated the entire enlistment (4-7 years) unless they get lucky with bases and can live off base with their girlfriends after each PCS (unlikely) OR you get married and get married housing

@@spearspearspear I guess what do you mean active combat zones? If you mean "a place where other people are trying to kill you" yeah, pretty much everyone will cycle through those bases. There are plenty groups that are actively trying to kill US soldiers in the middle East which is where most of our combat deployments are. (Almost) everyone pulls guard at some point. The bases get shot at. Landmines exist. You can get ambushed driving to the local town, or drive over a landmine, etc. Few people will get out of doing that in active duty, and most people don't want out of it anyway. It's good pay and there's a big culture surrounding it in the military...you're not a real soldier till you deploy kinda thing (which isn't necessarily true, but it's how a lot of people feel)
