Actually, I think a lot of the kids are smarter than you think - they can see most people in these clips are acting (pretty badly, in a lot of cases) and just consume the content for vicarious thrills like older kids watching horror and knowing it's not real. Also, I think a lot of them will grow up to be embarrassed they even liked such stuff when they were young (until they end up nostalgic about it lol).

That thing about Piper Rochelle is so haunting in retrospect; because her mom is now being sued by 11 of the kids who participated in the channel for heinous things. Tehmimi has made a video on it; it should be one of the most recent ones to date (if y’all wanna know more). Heads up for mentions of sexual harassment and child endangerment, though.

speaking of true crime and cases that need exposure, Kendall Rae is a youtuber that mainly focuses on cases with little to no media coverage. She often has the families featured in her videos as well so they are able to tell the full story. I highly suggest checking her out as her content and partnership with the families of victims makes a real difference. I know there are so many cases I'm now checking up on that I wouldn't hear about otherwise. Especially because cases surrounding POC, LGBT and Indigenous victims get little to no media coverage, especially nationally.

I'm a big fan of the prank they did on the Stranger Things s1 set where Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery put a tomato slice in Charlie Heaton's trailer because they wanted to hear him ask why there was a tomato in his trailer in his Northern English accent. It's so dumb, but Natalia told the story like it was the funniest thing ever and I love that. Stupid little pranks that are funny to literally just the people involved and not done for spectacle.

I agree. My brother used to do this to me when I was 4/5 and he was 5/6. I don't blame him since he was so young. And even though I realized after the first or second time that it was fake, (there's only so many times you can ask "who are you? What's talking? What's red?" Before someone catches on.) I developed this fear of getting amnesia. Even years later it stick around. (Talking 13-14ish) I would constantly remind myself of my name, age, where I live, who's around me, what's going on. Then I would repeat it less than 5 minutes later. (This was really strong between the ages of 9-14) And if I hit my head it was a constant loop of the same thing over and over for like five minutes. Now, I don't think my brother's to blame really. I sometimes have this thing where I and/or the world doesn't feel real. I haven't been able to be diagnosed with anything yet. So, I suspect that came into play with my obsession with it. But I have to wonder if I would've still had those thoughts if my brother didn't prank me with that.

Here's a thing too many people don't know: there are wheelchair users who can walk (ambulatory wheelchair users). I can walk just fine, my legs work, but I have orthostatic intolerance and debilitating chronic fatigue and I need to use a wheelchair for longer outings with a lot of walking or I get really sick. I help my mom get the chair in and out of the car when I can. You can never assume you know whether or not somebody needs the chair they're using based on if they can stand and walk or not. Anyways. Screw these "pranksters" using trauma and disability as props. edit: misspelling

That yellow gown that the Dobre guy is wearing isn't even a gown they give people to wear. Its a contact precaution gown you wear over your clothes when you are going into a room with someone who is under contact precaution for stuff like MRSA or C-DIF. It's literally made to be torn off so you can rip it off while you still have gloves on and never have to touch your actual clothes to your gloves or any contaminated surfaces. Actual hospital gowns are not expensive. I don't know why they didn't just buy one.

There was a wave of s*icide pranks here in Brazil a few years ago. I’ll tell some, so TW for s*icide themes. They were all horrific, they filmed their loved ones weeping with their limp bodies in their arms just for clout. I remember one girl started a fight with her boyfriend on purpose and then pretended to off herself. I’ll never forget his cries in the hidden camera video, him hugging her tight and apologizing, it was the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen and she had the audacity to laugh at his face when she broke it off. One dude was gonna prank his girlfriend and he made up a really brutal scene with a lot of blood. But when she found his “body”, she didn’t panic, she kept calm and just started calling emergency. And he didn’t like that, he wanted drama, so he broke it off immediately and the rest of the video is just them arguing and him making excuses for himself.

I had 2 concussions when I was a kid and lost my memory both times. It was awful for my parents when I couldn't remember my name, my animal's name, or who my parents were. When they found me, I was passed out on the floor; they were terrified that I was dead or dying because they never experienced anything like this before. And to add to the fear, they didn't know how long it would take to retrieve my memories. To this day, I still suffer from those concussions because I had them when my brain was still growing. Losing your memory isn't funny. Making someone believe that their loved one isn't themselves and might not be themselves for who knows how long is traumatic. Took me a long time to "train" KZbin what NOT to recommend. Even so, last week checked two news stories on FOX News' website while having YT open in another tab. Immediately, my feed started showing CRAP like mystics, tarot-card readings, horoscopes, Paula Dean recipes, and more junk I'd NEVER click on. (My hand to G-d, what I am saying is TRUE.) Google is so invasive, after twice checking FOX, they assumed I'd had debilitating brain injury. Had to spend way too long telling Google's algorithms I am still rational.

this kinda happened with a brazilian couple (who does youtube, but they never done pranks or anything). The guy had a panic attack / anxiety crisis and lost the memory of the past 10 years, when his girlfriend found him and he was like "who are you?" and then she asked him if it was a prank (they told the story afterwards, its been months, hes going to the psychiatrician and trying hypnosis, his memory is gradually coming back)

The fact that there’s kids doing some of this stuff is messed up and exploitative. Their parents shouldn’t be telling them to fake injuries, illnesses, or disabilities as if it’s funny or okay to make light of. And then you add on the fact that their audience is mostly children so you’re also promoting that behavior to them as well. Don’t get me started on the missing “pranks”.

@@ThatRipOff I kinda understand continuing to watch out of concern. They have millions of views, one extra person watching isn’t going to make or break their popularity. I watch videos out of concern all the time. I try to watch only reuploads or commentary as much as possible though.

I came here for the funny...but honestly, I'm just feeling an odd mix of sadness, anger, confusion, and helplessness. The fact that these people have such huge, loyal fanbases, that they're making money off of, for doing the lowest tier garbage is just so disheartening. I've seen some creators on here who are lucky to get into the 100k mark (either views or subs) for some genuinely funny and/or interesting videos. Then there's this; these staged, poorly acted, loud, lowest common denominator, throwing money around channels...and it just breaks my heart. Some people who are actually talented work so hard to get nowhere, and some even end up quitting, either because they can't make it, or they end up feeling like they can't compete with this nonsense. I'm just so tired and defeated.
@meowmeowmeow.uwu.693 жыл бұрын
yo i feel this 100%. its so upsetting to see these channels get so popular, like especially when they're normalizing and profitting off of such toxic stuff... ugh :(
@aza56853 жыл бұрын
You have to remember that most of their fan bases are kids
@tristful_rain3 жыл бұрын
@@aza5685 but that's the thing. something also concerning IS that their fan base is mostly kids. and since they're so young and impressionable, they might actually think pulling these kinds of pranks are okay. for example, for the "missing" or "kidnapped" pranks, these kids might actually try to do these and run off to god-knows-where for a small prank, which ends in their parents being worried sick and/or having the child have something actually bad happen to them while they're trying to act missing.
@aza56853 жыл бұрын
@@tristful_rain Then it is up to the parents to limit what their children are seeing, or telling them what they can or can't replicate off the internet. Older kids will have more of an understanding on things they can and can't do. Unlike younger viewers who should have supervision over what they are watching.
