What breaks a fast? Does tea, or coffee or cream or sugar break the fast? How about diet soda? Dr Jason Fung discusses what you can take during a fast and how this affects weight loss. These fasting variations can still be very effective for weight loss. Check out my blog at / drjasonfung

This is Sooooooooooooooooo true,,,,,,,,, but it doesn't only apply to food.. I use to make fun of people that were cheaters on their spouse.. (youtube will censor if I use the word for it) The excuse everyone uses when caught is "It was an accident" ..... They just happen to accidently both be naked in a bedroom all by themselves, and accidently fall into said bed and....... you get the rest of the accidents that happened..... Its a matter of what is important to you.. Not only physically but morally.... We have become a morally bankrupt nation and I believe it was done on purpose.

True. My scale didn't budge for a full month, but my pants were loose, belly flatter, etc. It drove me crazy! About the 5th week my scale started the incredibly slow downward movement. Fasting in changing my life. Fasting has even helped me move away from drinking alcohol. I've lost over 35 lbs since January 2nd. I've slowly stepped up to a regular daily 16/8 fast, and now I can easily do a 36-hour fast that I have done twice this year so far. My brain just works better. I am more productive. I look forward to getting up in the morning because my sleep is improving. My resting heart rate, BMI, visceral fat, and blood pressure are all headed down. My inflammation and the constant pain in my lower back and legs are gone. My sex life is back after over two years in the toilet. The power of fasting cannot be overstated.

My starting weight 223 pounds my weight as of today 162 pounds. My lowest weight since I started was 152 pounds but I just thought that was maybe too low so started reducing my fasting window a little. Stopped blood pressure meds my energy is great I feel younger and people say I look like I’m 40 and I’m 57. This really worked for me. There’s rough days at the start, but your health is worth it.

This is what I love about you. Eric Berg and Mindy always come across so strict about what you can and can't have during your fast. Which makes it too hard for some people to start. If one can have coffee with milk and diet zero calorie drinks etc. Then they can keep going through the fast. Makes it so much easier to succeed. ❤

I'm doing 18/6 with keto. In week 4. Struggling so much with my energy levels. I hope it gets better soon. I'm at 195 and have 145 as my goal. I had reached 173 a year ago but had to quit because of covid and life circumstances of being thrown into elder care of both parents with rapidly declining health. So stressful. One parent is passed now, so I'm trying to get back on track. It's very important to me that I try.

In 14 months of Fasting I was able to go from Level-2 Obese to Normal Weight (BMI < 25). The last few pounds were the hardest, because they didn't want to go away. I was on a 18 hour fast followed by 6 hour window for 2 meals. I switched to OMAD (One meal a day) to lose the final few pounds. That worked very well. I still want to lose 1 more pound and then I'll switch back to a 18/6 ---> 20/4 pattern to maintain the weight. A year and a half ago I wouldn't have believed this was possible.

@BobDiaz123
@BobDiaz123 3 жыл бұрын
Danielle I suggest you come at it through a series of steps. Go a week or two with 18/6., then go another week or two at 20/4. I find 20/4 challenging, so it's a mind game to bring yourself to follow through. After that pick a day and try OMAD. I find that from 11AM to 2PM it the toughest time, so this is when I exercise. In my case go for a multi-mile walk. That seems to take my mind off the hunger and during the walk, I don't feel hungry. I first tried OMAD as only two days of the week. It was about two months later that I decided to switch to OMAD every day. I'm now about one pound away from my target, so it's only one more week. It is a challenge, but you have to really set your mind to just push hard to do it. I hope this helps.

Diet soda contains artificial sweeteners that don't raise your blood sugar, but still trigger dopamine and hunger responses. That's a reason to not drink them. However, the bigger reason is they cause gastrointestinal issues. Sucralose and aspartame actually cause gut inflammation. They're very unhealthy. Things like stevia or erythritol are much better, but can still cause some issues. I'd only have zero-carb drinks once in a while, perhaps weekly or less.

Water or a Pellagrino during the day. Following Dr. Westman's page 4 list of foods. Been keto for 5 years and am such a turtle at losing! Thinking I'm eating to much, so really watching my carbs in my vegetables, and stopping my eating when full! I'll weigh and measure on the first and see if this woe is helpful! Dr. Fung: This video and others of yours is exactly the information I need at this time. I'm very reluctant to take meds and often don't take them when prescribed. I'm in my senior years and quite overweight. It has been creeping up for years. I have sleep apnea, recently prescribed steroids for asthma, have rarely used them and not for a while, my chol and blood sugar are creeping up as well. My doc offered meds. I was contemplating taking them. Now I know, after hearing from you that they contribute to increasing insulin, I'm going with the autophagy method. I like the idea of my body eating itself. Makes fasting sound more exciting and not so much like depriving myself of something. Very grateful.

Thank you so much Dr Fung, I started doing 16/8 fasting a year ago. I hike once a week and walk at least 30 mins a day for 5 days around my neighborhood but sometimes I take breaks. I have lost a significant amount of weight and my glucose levels are really good. My doc is impressed and i have shared what I do with my friends and family. I eat normal food but drink coffee and tea with creamer, half coffee and half loose black tea mix and brew. I cant thank you enough and I am glad I found your fasting session.❤😊

I have been doing the 16:8 fasting since a week or so before Thanksgiving 2020. I took a couple days off on Christmas Eve/Christmas. Then again when I had a migraine and took a pain reliever with caffeine, which made me feel shaky. So far I have lost nearly 20 lbs and am feeling great. Thank you for all you do!

I'm guessing the short answer is that it depends on your goals? Fasting for weight loss and fasting for autophagy require different adherences. What I find myself rapidly losing patience for is seeing questions like, "Does sugar in my coffee break my fast if I only use 3 tablespoons?" when it can be easily looked up... But I guess we all have to start somewhere. Dr. Fung has the patience of a saint to address the same questions over and over to help all of us.

Leche noir I believe is because people don’t really want to do it. With fasting I’m also doing keto and when I went to research receipts to make sure I was doing right all I found was recipes that I don’t really eat on a daily basis like pizza, cakes, cookies, energy bars. So if u look for Facebook groups they’ll say that u won’t break fast if is less than 30 calories when is pretty clear if u ingest any calories we break fast. Unfortunately when it turns to fad a lot of miss information to sell more stuff.

You're absolutely brilliant. I appreciate how clear and concise you are. I'm 24, and have been struggling with binge eating. I've been doing IF for about a week now to heal myself and lose some of the weight I've packed on and really needed some more information. You are awesome!

yes, this question does perplex me somewhat!! at first i heard "protein" should be what you eat to break your fast...then, i heard from another Dr source that "fat" should be used to break your fast!! i'm going to follow Dr Fung's advice...i've been following so many Doctors for the past several months(at least a dozen) but i feel Dr Fung is truly the most knowledgeable ! Looking forward to this session! Thank you Dr. Fung...you're very engaging! :)

Break extended fast with a small vagetabke salad like cucumber and tomato salad with lemon juice, salt and pepper only. You csn break short fasts with any food you like. But don't overeat.

I owe it to you Dr Fung. I, too was a yo yo dieter. I watched one of your videos on iF. Started off with 16:8 and didn't work for me. Then I started doing OMAD 23:1 and was perfect for me. It seemed like the longer I fasted the less I got hungry. Thank you!

The way I've always looked at it is you want to remain in fat burning mode upon waking up at least until noon. Took some getting used to but I always add whipping cream to my coffee which seems to work. I have a glass of 1/2 tsp salt water and on days I do OMAD I'll drink lemon water with Stevia throughout the day. I do about 2 OMADS a week, typically Monday and Thursday. Wow, I've been doing this now for 4 years! I wasn't fat but was very unhealthy and definitely needed to keep my weight below a certain level. Your work has been a blessing.

Thank you Dr Fung. Your advise came at the right time. I broke my low carbs fast today and I'm feeling very hungry now. I started out IF 16-20hrs daily and 24hrs once a week. I lost 22lbs since I started on 17Sept 2020. My weight don't seem to drop much but I can wear size XL from 3XL.

That’s great. I don’t weigh myself but determine how much I lost by clothing size. Just a different measurement. Just a different number. Plateaus come and go. I am giving my body time to heal itself from the years that I misused it. This is my own race and for me magic is that I feel great along with wearing a smaller size. Blessings. ❤️🌈🌹💜🌻💕🌎😸🦋
