Citing "bug collecting" as """proof""" for Tajiri's autism shows an incredible lack of cultural awareness from whoever decided to list that in the rumour mill - collecting bugs is a pretty common hobby in Japan (and many heroes like Kamen Rider have design elements that recall bugs because of their popularity as a whole), and a lot of franchises over the decades have used this as a way to transpose that hobby into something that could be sold. Kinnikuman figures have been a thing since 1983, and they're all about collecting them all.

Even more dumb when considering the timeframe. Those articles/book were in the early 2000’s or later, by young adults or adults. Collecting was by no means a new concept to the people writing said articles, and were well aware millions of kids collected them. I've worked with or around autistic kids nearly my whole life and man _half_ of them couldn't care less about collecting anything. If he _does_ have autism, totally cool. But you just force something like that upon someone as a means to somehow feel more self-righteous or whatever. That's idiotic. 2. I always thought that "Ditto is a failed Mew clone" was just a fun fan theory. Like, "Hey, maybe a programmer or two got the idea and decided to put a bunch of Ditto in the Mansion", you know? Not some super secret lore that GameFreak has been hiding from us, but rather a tiny little developer gag or something. Frankly, I've always liked the idea, but I don't have to wait for GF to officially announce it as canon to enjoy it. 3. ...Man, the internet is so bored, isn't it? @idontwantahandlethough2 жыл бұрын
Right? I've met literally dozens of people with Autism that 99% of people (besides maybe some other folks with autism, perhaps) would never realize they have it; they're perfectly "normal" (whatever that means!) in appearance and mannerism and you'd only really ever know for sure if they told you! And on the flip side of that coin, there's tons of people who have a bunch of stereotypical "autistic" traits that aren't actually autistic at all (well, I guess not "at all", since it's a spectrum I guess[?]), like me! I've has so many people ask me if I'm autistic and I always say "no. And maybe don't ask people that when you just met them" and some people have the audacity to say "umm I think you do, you should get checked". Golly gee, super cool :| You're right though, more visibility would always be cool. But at the same time, it's also kinda neat to think about how many autistic people are succeeding _right now,_ but we just have no idea because, as you clearly already know, autism presents in tons of different ways (especially in women!) and isn't always noticeable anyway!
@jellojiggler16932 жыл бұрын
Thanks for saying this! I'm not autistic but one of the things I hate is when someone who's rude to other people is given a pass because "they're probably autistic." That's BS. If they're rude it's probably because their parents didn't teach them how to operate normally in society or they feel they don't have to for whatever reason. And even if they are autistic it isn't an excuse to be an asshole. It makes people on the spectrum look bad and I have a creeping suspicion that people who say those things pity those on the spectrum as subhumans rather than seeing them as people who happen to act slightly different and have a general outlook that's influenced by something you can't relate to. To a lot of people anything other than "neurotypical white person" is viewed as "weird af and deserving of pity."

The information also directly mentions something related to NOT GIVING THE INFORMATION TO CONTENT CREATORS OR PERMISSION NOT TO POST IN A PIN UNDER A PERSONAL CHANNEL AND TO DELETE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF IT WAS ALREADY DONE ALREADY!!!!! Some people might have already possibly found the quote and website, but they are respecting Nintendo's demands and not posting them online. This was written before Twitter even was created in the first place as well.

Final Fantasy fans do it too. A popular fan theory for Final Fantasy VIII involves a Vanilla Sky like plot twist where the main character dies fairly early in the game- at the end of disc one when the game is four discs long. Fans cite the events of the next three discs being "wackier" and " too hard a pivot" to be the natural next series of events following the first disc. I think people like this theory because they perceive the game to be poorly written otherwise. The game's lead writer eventually debunked this theory, but only after 20 years of speculation, but people still believe this fan theory is true regardless.

The “ditto is a failed mew clone” theory is one of my favorite Pokémon fan theories so it’s sad that it wasn’t an intended part of the series. It was a cool idea and there some connections that could have been hints, but it wasn’t planned and we can’t act like Pokémon is building up some grand conspiracy. The best theories are usually unintended, untrue or later broken by the developers because it wasn't picked up upon. I remember the: Mass Effect 3, Shepherd was indoctrinated theory. It totally held water. There was a massive outcry that the fans hated ME3 for it's conclusion. So they changed it so the theory hold no water anymore. That was truly sad. At least the Ditto theory can still be enjoyed as a profound thought the internet had.
@GameBreaker10552 жыл бұрын
Really, we don't know if none of the designers who worked on Ditto might actually had the idea, but decided to not actually put it in as they wanted to focus on the relaitonship between Mew and Mewtwo. When it comes down to it, both Mew and Ditto are the only Pokemon who can natural transform into all other Pokemon. Mew can do it because it has all the DNA of all Pokemon and Ditto being failed clones would explain how it's DNA is felxible enough to copy the DNA of all Pokemon (It also just looks like a failed experiment). And the theme of becoming all Pokemon also fits the evened out stats. Mewtwo is a clone with DNA reworked to be more human like what makes it so different from Mew.

Thank you for debunking the autism claim, coming from someone on the spectrum themselves. While I am confident there are a lot of neurodivergent (ADHD, ASD, OCD, etc) people who work in the games industry, this claim seemed incredibly shaky from the start if you know anything about how Japan treats mental health. I’d venture to say that the general understanding and sympathy towards mental health issues is further behind in Japan than the United States, as there are very limited resources for neurodivergent people, and it’s the fastest way to get othered if you bring it up. Things are getting better, but it would be a ballsy move to claim you have autism, while working for a Japanese company, in the 1990s or 2000s; if he said that back then, he could’ve gotten in a lot of trouble. It also shows a severe lack of cultural awareness on the English-speaking side for them to site bug collecting and him being withdrawn as speculative evidence. Bug collecting is a very common traditional activity for kids, especially beetles, and setting them up to fight one another. There are a few other games based on this, I believe there’s even a super popular Sega arcade title based completely around beetle fighting (cannot remember the name of it, unfortunately). Japan, as a general culture, tends to value privacy. Although vlogging and promotional events are on the rise even in Japan, a lot of time is spent to blur the faces of people who did not consent to being on camera. The US and other English-speaking places do have consent forms and blurring as well, but the concern for privacy is not unanimous and is often not regarded as much as it is in Japan. While some game devs do have social media and post frequently, it’s not super uncommon for some to just want to keep to themselves. It’s not inherently a sign of shyness or having social issues. Same goes for many other people from different parts of the world, but I think the US/English-speaking cultures are more willing to share themselves due to pride in individuality.

Brock's negative reaction to when someone asks him about Professor Ivy has always intrigued me. I've always thought of several possibilities as to what could be the reason for this, but I've always considered one the most plausible: her dump was so traumatic it left him like that. Let's face it: who among us has never suffered like hell from being rejected by someone we liked a lot? Brock was a teenager discovering stuff about life and the first hard rejection really messed up with him.

Maybe she was the one that got away? Some rejections just hurt more than others. It's been ages since I've seen the early seasons, but if I'm not mistaken Brock was usually rejected upon meeting someone. However, the clips in this vid make me think the two spent some time together that Brock wasn't just infatuated with her, but actually got to know her a little bit.
@matthewkuscienko46162 жыл бұрын
@@PelemusMcSoy As I recall, he did get to stay with her, which is why he was absent from the orange islands arc of the series (if you go by why he was written out of the series at that time, it was because they were afraid he would be precieved negatively because of his race or something like that, I can't exactly recall). Because Brock had a major crush on her, he probably thought their relationship WAS going to go somewhere in the future, not to mention I think she was the first person to actually give him a chance, which had to have gotten his hopes up quite a bit; looking at it that way, it's no wonder he was so heartbroken by being rejected by her. As for the theory of her being a lesbian, while this is the first time I've heard it personally, from the clips shown that were used in this video, it looks like it may have been speculation due to a combination of all her assistants being girls (and all pretty young girls at that), along with the fact that she rejected Brock. In the former case, it seems highly unlikely to me, as it looks more like she was their mentor than anything else, not to mention the fact that it would be quite creepy if she actually was romantically interested in any of them. As for the latter point, I think it was expected at that point in time that she and Brock were going to wind up together for reasons I already said above, so the fact that she wasn't interested in him probably made her look like she had a preference for females instead. Not that I believe either of these reasons to be good justifications for this theory, but it's my best guess as to what people were thinking when they made this theory, as stupid as they admittedly sound

Are you sure most of them weren't joking? Some of them might have been serious, but most people I know see fan theories as a fun pass time and they don't really care what the developers think.
@Yipper642 жыл бұрын
eh, im lukewarm on that. No developer statements outright debunked the theory, all the statements did is tell us the devs likely weren't *aware* of the theory. That means while unintentional, it could still be made canon, all we'd need is a dev confirming it. Things like that happen all the time in these longer running franchises. I cant think of an example off the top of my head but im sure its happened.

This process of following sources back and only coming up with baseless claims on blogs and wikis reminds me a lot of what Potholer54 does. It's a good practice that more people should do, it's not actually THAT hard to trace some links and titles back, and when finding no particularly good citations, just accept that, no, this isn't something we should perpetuate.

Same type of thinking that happens with this stupid rumor that KEEPS popping up about Kurt Cobain from Nirvana having written an unused theme song for Ren and Stimpy. It's one of the most asinine theories ever, but everyone not only keeps taking it seriously like this is real, but claim this is actual lost media and people are still wasting their lives trying to track this down. I've done exhaustive research on Spumco and Ren and Stimpy for over 15 years and anyone who knows even a portion of what I do about them and the production of the show knows this is baseless and ridiculous. But the internet somehow keeps justifying one of the dumbest and crackiest rumors anyone has ever heard. SOMEONE online started this and somehow something as laughable as THIS got treated like a legitimate Lost Media hunt.

I always though the Ditto theory was just a fun “what if?” everybody tossed around because the similarities and coincidences are cool, like the Ash coma theory or the Ed, Edd, and Eddy purgatory theory. Didn’t know so many people just legitimately think it’s implied and Gamefreak is subtly confirming it to anyone who is smart enough to notice the clues and nobody can convince them otherwise. That’s “Paul is dead” levels of delusion.

He just said that he likes to keep Game Freak low so that development cost doesn't balloon up, which happens the bigger the company gets. It is more cost effective to hire an outside studio. Furthermore Game Freak does not get all of the money from both the game and merch. That is not how business work. The money goes back into the Pokémon company and then gets split out between each section of the medium. Game Freak only get paid based on the sales of the main line Pokémon and that is it. Also the "Ditto is a failed clone of Mew" Theory already falls apart from the very start at one of its factors. It claims Ditto can only be found in the burnt down Mansion and the Cave. Which is plain-out false. Also why is Mewtwo called a "successful clone" either way? Isn't a clone supposed to be a complete copy of another living being? And the Fossil Revival Program shows they in fact can do that _successfully_ . 12:29 Exactly! I've been saying that for years!
@ChangedMyNameFinally692 жыл бұрын
It's funny that LgPe did pay service to the theory by having Ditto spawn more frequently in the room where Mewtwo was grown
@michaeleanthonyjr2 жыл бұрын
One incorrect part of a theory doesn't make the entire theory incorrect. And if your intention is to successfully clone something while also making it different in ways you would consider ideal, then it would count as a success. If someone cloned Superman and made that clone superior to the original Superman, that would be a success if that was their intent. And I think the fossil revival program isn't necessarily proof against the ditto aspect since it's possible that the processes for "reviving" fossils is different than the cloning of Mew. After all, Fossils are speculated to not all have been originally rock type, and it's possible that certain fossils would not be rock type if they were cloned using the same methods that created Mewtwo. My point is, a lot of the points against the clone theory don't disprove it, though a statement that refuses to confirm it is sufficient evidence against it since that statement in question also actively supports the contrary.

I don't think that the theory is true, the fact that an interview that brings up the idea doesn't confirm it as true, is sufficient enough evidence for me to believe that it isn't true. Though I think it is fun headcanon. "Lol so y'all don't believe Satoshi is autistic or Ivy is lesbian but will happily believe some bunk theory about Ditto" What you have said is basically the same as saying "So you don't believe that Santa is real or that Aliens built the pyramids, but will happily believe that multiverse theory is true." Like, those other two theories are not comparable to the Ditto theory because they both operate on the idea of misinformation from and about real world people. The Ditto theory operates on available information within the games and can be interpreted favorably towards the theory in question. In principle, there being no evidence of Satoshi being autistic does not mean he is not, since it's a condition very undiagnosed in Japan, and even when it is diagnosed, it's usually not really spoken about (as most conditions are, let's not forget the culture there). However backseat diagnosing him and spreading it as a fact doesn't sit right with me at all so I'm glad we are slowly debunking this myth, as an autistic person myself. Bug collecting might be considered an unusual hobby in the west but it really isn't in Japan - pretty much almost every kid used to do it back in the day there. Being reclusive is also extremely common among creators, they respect their privacy.
