ECS STREET SHIELD SKID PLATES - Ready to Rally

I continue to stand by my choice to mount a steel oil pan as I continue to see new stories about Mk7s having their plastic oil pans broken by road debris. Still, given the leak that I had at the RTV seal for my steel pan, I decided to get some ECS Street Shield skid plates in case I return to the stock pan. My package includes the brace and the tunnel skid plate. Now, I finally found the time to install everything.

Wow really nice skid plate. I have a 15 GTI silver. Great cars! Same issues with minor coolant leak or consumption. Blower fan under warranty. Battery also died. Went to lager size too. Really want to replace battery blanket with correct size but can’t figure out which one it could be. Anyway have a good one and drive safe.

I like them! I have the "low profile" versions, linked below. They seem to be the ideal size for small cars. My jacks cannot lift high enough to use these stands at their highest position. So, I'm good with these. Thanks for visiting.

Hey I was thinking of doing this on my car but I was wondering how difficult is it to change the oil with the skid plate on? Also without the supports how different is the process?

It's not difficult, but the pan has to come off. There's 13 screws holding it in place. Without the extra brace, I think there's either 10 or 11 screws remaining. Personally, I use a vacuum extractor and change my oil from above the engine. Thanks for visiting!

Can anyone who has this kit tell me what the weight of it is? ECS rates the skid plate alone at a surprisingly hefty 16.5lbs. I imagine the reinforcement brace adds a good chunk on top of that. Rigidity and protection versus lightweight, I know. It's a sliding scale.

Thanks for writing. ECS advertises the total weight of the plate and supports at 24 lbs. I'm surprised it's that heavy. I've struck a speed bump once. I'd much rather have that energy go to supports than a plastic bumper trim piece. Take care!
