Raffi Boutchakjian red yeast rice mainly for coloring, you may omit it. alternately, you may substitute it with red fermented beancurd or paprika. I have seen some recipes call for food coloring too, to my opinion that's really not necessary.

Thanks Victoria for your response actually paprika is an idea and we plenty have it but actually i've bought red food coloring (powder). In your opinion do i go for it and use it for my Char Siu pork and thanks again.

Hi Raffi, sure if you don't mind consuming food coloring. But it is always better to go natural. :)

I think you can use dark soy sauce to replace red yeast rice.
