This week we start the install of a partial floor pan in a 1968 Mustang. The metod we are using will allow you to hide the repair and not install a complete pan. It will also cut down on welds that need to be ground down.

Ahhh, POR before welding. I would have thought to do welding first (on clean surface) and then Paint Over Rust (POR) afterward. Seeing a pro do it teaches us neophytes. Thanks.

Hey Jeff, Glad to find you here, man. My '67 hardtop project is still waiting for my attention. Over the years it sat gathering dust. I hope to be working on it soon, and your advice and articles are always interesting. Did Basher ( the watch) finally bite the dust?

I removed about an inch of the factory paint around the area I'm welding to make room for the weld-through primer. If the situation comes up where I need to lay the pan on top of the factory paint but have the primer over it, will it be a sufficient surface to weld or does the old paint need to come off first?

Clean metal will always weld better. You can add some surface protection with some weld-through primer.

Will this work on a 73 Mustang. I bought one recently and needs the floorpans replaced

Yep. Make sure to get the correct pans as the '71-73 pans are different than the earlier ones.
