It’s ALL over radio down in Georgia right now. Trying to understand why, and wondering if it’s because Apple has a song at #3 on top 40 plays called “lose control” and people are digging this up accidentally. No clue. Cuz outside of my head where it lives rent free, I haven’t heard it on air since 1990, at least. Lol

Melancholic, powerful, straight forward pop rock is what you wanted from Carmen, and he served it up in fine style here. The blend of guitars and keyboards (and that big, seismic drum groove) is really all you need to get lost in the tidal wave of melody he pushes out here. The bittersweet longing for a simpler time builds and builds until that third verse, where the song explodes from the inside out, daring you to remain unmoved. Were you unmoved? Don't lie. You were deeply touched by that gritty voice. He made you "lose control".

I am saddened to hear Eric Carmen has passed. His song "All by Myself" brings me back to my insecure High School years when I longed for a girlfriend but was too shy to move forward and "Make me lose control" brings me back to the beginning of my first real adult love affair. A week after meeting the woman of my dreams. I had to leave the East Coast to visit my best friend on a long planned trip to Manhattan Beach for a week, but couldn't stop thinking of my new love and ached to return to her. I was driving up Pacific Coast Highway in a baby blue convertible Porsche 944 with the top down heading to Malibu as the sun was setting over the ocean when this song played. The fires on the beach were just being lit. The first chords of this song immediately throws me back in time to when the future was all in front of me and life could not be better. We should all have, at least, that one perfect moment in our lives to hold on to. Thanks to you Eric, one of those moments is owed to you !! Thank you and you will be missed.
@annewandahl84204 ай бұрын
Such lovely memories. Thanks for sharing. Speeking of sharing: I believe “All by Myself” (the original album version of course) became a world wide hit, because we all share your story of feeling insecure and lonely every once in a while in our lives. I too remember how that universal everlasting song hit those exact emotions when I was an insecure School Girl. It’s been one of my turn-to songs, when life gets hard just as Sunrise is one of my get-in-a-good-mood-songs. I’ve been a huge fan of Eric Carmen since I heard his first solo album, when it was new. That’s almost 50 years. Sooooo many memories are linked to Eric Carmens beautiful songs. I guess that’s why his death hit us so hard. He’s been gone for a week now, and I’m still so sad. Strange how the death of some one you’ve never met, affects us so much. I hope his family and friends find comfort in knowing how much he is loved and missed by fans world wide. PS: I love this song too, can’t decide which Carmen-song is my favorite. I think “Boats against the Current” takes first place and then comes all the rest of his songs. Good bye, Eric Carmen, 😢😢😢

@baneblackguard5842 жыл бұрын
my memories of the 80's were somewhat different. crushed economy, standing in food lines to get government cheese while suffering through the horrid institutions of grade school and high school. Everyone seems to remember the 80's very very differently than I do. the only thing that made it survivable was the music which was in extremely stark contrast to the reality of living through an extremely bad decade.

Back in 1988, when this song was brand new & I was still in my teens, me & a group of other teens were on a field trip in a school bus. They actually had a radio, on the bus, that was up by the bus driver & they would play pop music stations but always had the volume kinda low. But when this song came on, we all started singing the chorus "Turn the radio up! For that SWEET sound!" to the old lady driving the bus. She kept looking in her rear view mirror at us & shaking her head. But after a couple of min of hearing our amazing (or awful) vocals, she finally capitulated & turned the radio up. We all started cheering after that. Haha.

I have loved Eric Carmen from the time I heard him in 1971 as an almost 9yr old. Recently I got to watch many of his ole gathering concerts and some cool interviews from his NY area which totally reflect upon how not only cool he remained as he aged but how much music stayed a part of his life and in his soul. A reminder to do what you love each day and to love each day. Thank you Eric, see you soon - and with a deep heart here of my own, I am being so grateful for your hungry heart. R.I.P.
