GLEN!!!! In DaVinci Resolve, if you right click an audio file on a track in the Edit screen (not cut screen), you'll get an option to "change clip speed". You can then change the speed precisely to however fast you want, and also have the option to turn off the pitch correction, so that the pitch shifts accordingly. hope that is what you were looking for!

I think you are right about 9 cameras and being able to program a few of those for something else. I guess the only thing I would say in regards to the "no flip screen" conversation is that some manufacturers (Sony for me) have phone apps to remote control your camera. Even though my Sony has a flip up screen, if I am using longer lenses I can't see every detail needed on a smaller flip screen. Having my phone next to me with the picture of my shot helps a TON. @@SpectreSoundStudios God dam. That is annoying. I'm totally new to video editing, having come from a background of programming and operating lighting consoles for love gigs and events, and, all the consoles I ever used seemed really well thought out, and, just got out of my way, and let me do stuff. Resolve seems to have some really frustrating little niggles that get in the way. Just little things, but, they really interrupt the flow. Same with thr speed editor. Great 90% of the time, then, "throw it out the window frustrating" 10% of the time. Like, I can't seem to use it to select clips, so if I want to move clips around, I have to use the mouse to click on them, then I can hold down the move button, and use the wheel to position it. But, if I've already had to goto the mouse, I may as well stay there and click drag it around. If you do move the clip with the speed editor, when you drop it, the software de-selects the clip - arrrrggg! Means you can shift it again without touching the mouse. Or perhaps I still need to learn stuff, I dunno. It could be really really awesome. Let me use the camera keys for other stuff if I'm not working with a sync bin, thats a lot of keys I'm missing out on there. If I could map an up, down, left, right control to that, so I could move which clip has the focus of the software, that would be killer and mean I keep my hands on the editor so much more. Just make a key a shift key, and suddenly a whole extra load of buttons become available. Its sooo close! In lighting programming and operation, everything was just right there, within finger tip reach. It had to be. No mouse, no touchscreen. Id love thr speed editor to be similar. It can be too, if they develop it right

My advice is buy your cameras where the eggheads do and you already invest so much time in dicking with other suboptimal tools you'll pick up how to use something actually designed to be useful pretty quick and wonder why everyone doesn't do it that way. Again, I am not promoting but just to get an idea of what's available, try places like Edmund Optics and look at the camera section - of course you have to do a little reading but I'll save you the first month of it: 1. look for global shutters 2. know your image sensors (e.g. don't just look at raw megapixels of overall sensor, look at your end use frame size and scale it to that) 3. evaluate your use cases and the way in which your workflow fits to you and check standard software packages against available camera interfaces (USB 2/3, PoE, what mounts the lenses you already have take as well as how you mount the gear itself, etc) 4. *LIGHTING LIGHTING LIGHTING LIGHTING* I guess I should have said that first but you also need to match your lighting to your sensors for best results. 5. whenever you get overwhelmed by all the information there is, try calculating how much it would cost for you to have someone put you in your custom solutions that works just how you want it with the gear tailored in cost and performance exactly to your needs. You can't buy that off the shelf. Software and integration tools and vision standards are improving and if you call the people that make the cameras they actually want to help you so it's not as daunting as it may seem at first. 6. I still never got the hang of it but study lenses and mounts per your application - I had wonderful setups at work but it always took me forever to dial the optics in because I'm just a stupid lab rat and had to just fiddle until glory was achieved. I'm just a masterful fiddler lol Once a lab rat tools junkie, always a lab rat tools junkie. :-)

READ THE DAMN MANUAL!" Shirt? Your brutal wisdom is the best for home recording musicians around the world, especially from me hailing from Toledo, Ohio Fucking Thank You Glenn!

Hey Glen, can you try to bind the jogwheel or any button to an action in Reaper? Does Reaper recognise the speed editor's commands as valid inputs? That would be very handy to know! Thanks!

If they came with a flip screen, how are they going to sell you a separate “Video Assist” screen? Get with the marketing program Glen! Seriously though, I’ve found separate monitors way more useful and easily moved between cameras.

haha ...are you trying to get under Glenn's skin? Blackmagic are upper end cameras starting at $400 & $500 to over $3,000, and you're suggesting some walmart level camera designed for post toddlers to him? Bahhahaha!! My first camera was the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-830 for $110.00. For the price it took great photos ...the video was pretty damned good for that price range. But for what Glenn is doing those Cyber-shot cameras are a no-go. LOL

@@FuquarProductions Gotcha ...when you consider the price range on those Blackmagic camera, that's even worse. It's insane not to have a flip screen that is more than just a partial flip. Not just for the reason's Glenn stated ...but when recording outside, that sun can make your LSD screen basically useless. Being able to adjust your LCD makes it easier to be able to find that sweet spot where you can film while being able to see your target in the screen. I never heard of Blackmagic until I saw this video. Checking out their video samples on YT after I saw comments that Blackmagic is the leader in video camera technology. I found this upload by Glenn to be very interesting ...hope he does more tutorials and reviews on video editing and software.

sounds like a stream deck would be better and a separate job wheel. 250 + price of jog wheel vs this $400 thing. Honestly seeing this workflow and knowing it's possible makes me feel a bit more wanting to edit videos.

A tool like this should be able to speed up your musical editing, as well. If you can't customize this tool to work with different software, it's not worth $400 considering that there are other products that will. You're mostly paying for a wheel here because all the other functionality could be worked into a normal keyboard.

Mine showed up this week (from Vistek after like 3 weeks)... now if I could just get the effin' Bluetooth to connect. Also, the impression I get is that Black Magic is not super-inclined to cater to the consumer to mid-level market, what with their Fairlight consoles that cost more than my car.

Hey Glenn, Not sure if you're answered this before so apologies if you have! What's your take on control surfaces when it comes to mixing/recording? I've been using a mouse and keyboard for years (like most others I imagine these days) but I do prefer to have some kind of tactile feedback so invested in a small USB controller (Korg NanoKontrol 2) as I liked the idea of having faders and knobs for panning etc. It was such a pain in the arse to get running to how I wanted it in Reaper than all it's done now is collect dust for the last year or so because I can't be bothered piss-arsing about with settings and things when I want to use it. Do you use anything similar in your studio/any you'd recommend? Thanks, Fuck you and all that noise.

As far as i understand, Flip Screen are seen like a bad features by pro Camera operators. they see it as a potential point of failure. i totally get that if you have a crew and a guy behind the camera. Blackmagic should release a “ content creator “ version. with flip screen. and maybe a remote for recording?

Hey Glenn! Just wondering, is right-click (on the audio clip) > change clip speed not what you're looking for with your sped-up comments? What makes you need to pull it out of Resolve?
@SpectreSoundStudios3 жыл бұрын
It works, but having to do it 15 separate times per episode is a LOT of extra work. A simple drag & drop preset would be MUCH quicker. I still do it in resolve, but I have to separate all the clips, drag them to a new track, make a compound clip, speed it up, separate THOSE clips, then drop them in place, then trim. A preset would be far faster. The "right click" and set speed is really clunky and even slower than the method I just described.
@aadityagoswami3 жыл бұрын
@@SpectreSoundStudios Ah ok, fair enough. I've tried to search for ways to make macros for that kind of thing as well, but no luck yet. Your way probably works better when you have to do so many for a single video.

Checked out the prices on those Black Magic Cameras. $400, then $500, next one $1,000. For those prices and you don't get a flip screen? No wonder Glenn is pissed about that. Why don't you invest in a $300 or $400 dollar camcorder? They pretty much all have flip screens. You're get a better video resolution than a camera of equal value with the flip screen. Or do those camcorders in that price range not have a suitable recording resolution? Only drawback is you can't take the best photos with them

If they're not syncing, check your framerate. Consumer cameras will always be either 23.98 or 29.98. Your BM camera can be set to 24 or 23.98. If the BM is on 24 they won't match. Also think of finding an Atmos Shogun used. It combines a monitor with a recorder and switcher, and outputs files that have all four camera streams in sync with each other. We used one of those to make a b-movie called "The Zombie Apocalypse in Apartment 14F," and it worked great (watch that movie on TubiTV if you feel like it, tubitv.com/movies/526479/the-zombie-apocalypse-in-apartment-14f?start=true). Of course, that's another huge investment. New, they're over a thousand dollars. Cinema cameras are built on the assumption that you'll always have thousands of dollars worth of accessories bolted to them. They don't include flip screens any more because we always have an external monitor on a magic arm and we don't bother with the flip screen.
