hi , you will stop the increases (the top section) when it is about 1/2 inch smaller than the head circumference you are making it for

There is an electrician's product called 'shrink tubing' that is used so that the resulting covering is water tight. You can cut it to length, tuck your two ends of wire into it overlapping, and then use a hair dryer or heat gun to shrink it over the entire area it joins. It will stay put without getting yarn gummy and is safe in the washer and renders the ends 'un-poke-able'. :)

This is why I love reading the comments. What a great idea!!! I will pick these up, today. The wire I used for my hats is just floral wire you can get at a garden store. I do a couple of outside rows, instead of just the one outer band.

Loved your video, love how you leave it open to each person to determine the size of the hat and width of brim. Just a quick note : When starting the first row of the brim, if you crochet in the front loop only, rather than through both loops, the brim will automatically flare out and lay flat. I am making a much smaller versions, like doll size, for my country wedding centerpieces for the tables. One in blue and one in white, blue decorated with white feathers for the hat band with decorative wedding rings, the white with a white pearl band and the rings and a light blue flower on each side where you fold up the brim. Thank you for posting your work, great job.

when at the end working over the wires, after you tape the ends up, you can probly tape them together as well to stop them from sliping around and being uncooperative

I'm going to make this hat for my friend and I can't wait to make it! When I get to the end of the wire, I'm gonna tape the ends together so I don't have a pokin out issue, bc I'd go bonkers and throw it across the room! (trust me! It's happened before! lol) TY for your tutorials! You're awesome! :)

You can also get shrink tubing to put around the wire ends. That way you don't have to worry about the tape coming loose in the wash

Loved your video and thought about how to get the sprayed warm water part that holds the shape, by using a steam iron on that part, since it sprays a warm water mist quite easily. I will have to try it out and see what happens. Thank you for your lovely videos, you are amazing!
@CrochetwithClare Жыл бұрын
That may work but don’t iron any acrylic yarn as it will melt your yarn. It’s just easier to use warm water.

Instead of overlapping the wire, I'm going to strip the plastic off of both ends and wrap the bare wires together and make a flat surface to crochet over, maybe wrap some yarn over the join spot. I hope it works. Try it next time you do a video. I've enjoyed the ones for this hat.

Hi Bobby. I made a little monkey amigurumi and the pattern has a hat made os something else, not yarn. I used this pattern (video) and converted into a miniature hat and my monkey has a hat. so cute. Thanks for the guidance. Aida Luna.

I love this tutorial and it's the closest hat to what I've been looking for. I was actually looking for a cowboy's hat pattern. Do you think if I carry on crocheting a few more rows at the brim and increasing the same amount of stitches I could get away with it?

How do you get the shape of the top of the hat to get the part where it starts to go down so it will look more like a hat. Mine is just getting wider and wider and it doesn't have the shape. I can see where u can grab the access of the extra material of the hat and I don't have that on my hat. It s very hard for me to explain what my problem. Basically my hat doesn't look like yours.

I am just about finished the hat and I really wished it was done in the round rather than joined. The seam is really annoying me. Great tutorial though
