I mean yeah it’s choreographed and everything but to the inexperienced eye they can actually see what the fighter’s thinking/ looking for while fighting whereas in real time you already have to know what to look for while watching a fight and it’s too fast for them to see. Like if someone put on Olympic speed walking we’d all be like why don’t they just run like wtf is this because we don’t know what to pay attention to or what scores points from the judges or whatever. And yeah I’m gonna go copy and paste the same comment somewhere else because I like mma but I don’t think it’s fair to judge people who don’t know sh*t about mma for not knowing sh*t about mma and being asked to give their opinions on what they’re watching. Imagine if they just came in a stared at the screen quietly what would this video even be😂 Also they picked a lot of footage with violent finishes I think it might’ve been easier for them (people who don’t watch mma) to see the techniques in a fight that went to a decision. The UFC is actually one of the few sports organizations that actively gives as much attention to the women's divisions as they do to the men's. Ronda Rousey was the highest paid fighter across the board for a while. People like Amanda Nunes, Cris Cyborg, Holly Holm, Rose Namajunes are all huge draws. I watched a random fight card with my grandpa once. He was very off put by it. Making remarks like they’re just cock fighting like animals or dogs. Or that it was disgusting to watch them break bones and have bloody faces rubbing on each other. But boy he didn’t take his eyes off the screen for one second I can tell you that
@markzuckergecko621
@markzuckergecko621 2 жыл бұрын
@@itzjay116 that's awesome. I think most people like MMA, whether they know it or not or have been exposed to it. I would estimate somewhere around 70%, there are some people who either don't care about sports at all, or are just eeked out by all violence and don't want to see it. And there are also the old school boxing fans, you know, the "sweet science" guys, but a lot of them can be swayed too. But any grappling heavy fight will set that back, there can be 3 straight fights that are mostly striking and then one with a lot of wrestling, and they'll be like nah, don't like it. Which I don't quite understand, because a lot of boxing matches turn out to be stalemates where they're mostly proding and clinching, that's just as boring as a mostly wrestling MMA fight if you're not into it. But to each their own.

Joan reminded me so much of my late grandmother. I used to watch fight cards with her, She loved it, even if she didn't understand the ground game she fed off my energy as the fighter I was pulling for advanced position or went for a submission. I watched Ortega Volk with her and I was really pulling for T-City, and she fell madly in love with him, which I mean hey Brian Ortega is a good looking guy, so I get it. But she was screaming at the TV the entire time. I lost her late last year, but those memories of watching cards with her are stories I will tell my grandchildren.

Honestly its kinda hard to say what sport takes the most skill. I'd say that consistently hitting a baseball is one of the most difficult things to do in sports. Theres a reason that the best in the world only get a hit in 30% of their at bats. MMA is definitely up there. Like I said hard to compare though, no baseball player is winning an MMA bout and no fighter is getting a hit in the MLB.

@Ash-vg8px No, a ref is meant to step in when a fighter is unconscious, seriously injured (ie. A broken arm), not defending themselves or has tapped. It's ridiculous how many referees I've seen stand idly as a guy lies unconscious, taking 2-5 unnecessary shots simply because they're not paying enough attention to see the fighter is out. I pray you never officiate a fight
@rishab0B
@rishab0B Жыл бұрын
The rules of Muay Thai cannot be applied to MMA. MT doesn't allow ground fights where as MMA does. So a ref cannot interfere when one is falling. Yes there are some refs who should've stopped fights sooner and then there's refs who get complained by the fighter for stopping the fight too soon. Go figure.

It's neat to see folks who may not have had prior knowledge or experience with the sport witness it for the first time. I wasn't very familiar with the UFC or MMA in general before my boyfriend walked me through the rules, forms and various techniques (with the help of FightFront and MMA on Point), and admittedly it was interesting to hear some of my early misconceptions echoed here (i.e. I remember thinking it seemed a bit chaotic and brutal at first, and I didn't understand how much thought and practice went into something like this primarily because I just didn't know what I was looking for.) Above all else though, I admired how quickly their opinions adapted and how often they asked questions. I hope at least a few of them keep watching, learning and maybe down the line become fans as well!! :)

Just the elderly? You realize that the vast, overwhelming majority of the population has no formal martial training and are VERY influenced by fantasy and movies, right? This is a community of people who, at the very least, watch a lot of combat sports, and many who have trained. So at the very least, everyone has at least a slight idea what actual fighting looks like and what kind of skills it takes. The vast majority of people are just like that old woman, regardless of age. It's why people still think Medieval Knights somehow rode around in 300 pounds of metal while swinging 40 pound swords. Fantasy movies and video games feeding them a steady diet of the most ridiculous shit since their childhood, and they have no actual knowledge of the subject to counter these assumptions with.
