Something I realized is that Ahsoka is canon version of Starkiller. Apprentice of Anakin/Vader who uses reverse grip lightsaber, later using 2 reverse grip. Fought Vader using speed as an advantage. Helped organize the rebellion. Both pretty powerful. Anything else?

I agree with the apparent consensus. From her first appearance in Clone Wars I always thought Ahsoka was fated to die at Darth Vader's hand. The only surprise was that it happened in Rebels, a show that took place years later. But then, she survived. Her survival is an inevitable (or seemingly inevitable) consequence of the fact that Star Wars isn't completely George Lucas's story anymore, and it isn't all about the Skywalkers. She got to go on because Dave Filoni felt there was more of her story left to tell. And she is a good character. I still remember how incredible it was to see Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka for the first time, that amazing feeling of worlds colliding and a CGI creation coming to life in a profound new way. I look forward to the Ahsoka show for that reason. Let's see where she goes from here.

Just found this video. It's ironic, because I think Star Wars does need to expand out of the Skywalkers in specific and Jedi in general. Rogue One was one way to do the later, no Jedi. Ahsoka can take a similar path, if she really is following is a 'not a Jedi' path like the Nightsister's aren't Sith.

I would love for Asoka to get a happy ending. The entirety of star wars is basically tragedy and loss. Her appearance in Mandalorian guarantees she survives Darth Vader so I am hopeful we get to see a happy ending for a Jedi for once.

I loved hes story, Ahsoka was a turning point in Anakin's life, it gave him a responsibility over a person (which was like his sister) and at some point he was going to have to let her go. It was honestly one of the best decisions the jedi council made to bad that they themselves sabotaged their own plan so to speak, because of the behavior and little support they gave ahsoka, she in the end leaving Anakin, and of course Anakin never learned to let go a close person in his life. I liked that her story continues, she represents the best of Anakin in a person.

I would agree that from a writing standpoint, killing her in rebels would have been a good play but also... what if Vader had "let her go" I have no idea what that would mean but its an interesting possibility or what if she actually managed to beat Vader and disappeared after, but what Dave did does also as was said in the video explain why she and Ezra were missing during OT. Personally I love Ahsoka's character, all the nuances and it would be cool if she got a happy ending and maybe got the life that Anakin tried to have but actually is able to live and die in peace, it would be a nice change because honestly Star Wars is depressing like so far no character has had a happy ending and hasn't died in battle and really Ahsoka is the only character that fans really love who is still alive and not ruined by the sequel trilogy, so I do hope they give her a good life for her sake and the franchise they just have to do it right

I remember a time when a character's death in Star Wars was SO incredibly loaded. Anakin/Vader, Padme, Kanan Jarrus, honestly the list goes on. Heck, even Order 66 brought us all to tears over characters that, at the time, were just background fillers. But now I feel like death in Star Wars is just another commodity: just like Stormtroopers or Battle Droids, we can keep killing off big name characters and they'll just keep coming. Darth Maul, Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, Cobb Vanth and now Cad Bane?? When Ahsoka came back in the World Between Worlds, it was quite literally groundbreaking. Just like Maul, she had (and in my opinion, still has) the opportunity to be a one-off, let's bring a character back from the dead for GOOD storytelling, not because we're attached and can't let go. And that's the tragic thing with dead characters now. If we look at Ahsoka and Maul as foils for eachother, both had fenomenal stories in the Clone Wars and Rebels, but now we're seeing them in the vast majority of Star Wars media and it's becoming a bit much. I hope we can go back to Ahsoka being this Gandalf-esque type figure that the end of Rebels teased. Before her death, she sat in the constant shadow of Anakin, a man that fell to the darkside because he was too attached to everyone he loved, but now, in her reincarnation as 'Ahsoka the White', she's free of that burden and she's searching for Ezra Bridger- the modern Canon's Luke Skywalker. Dave Filoni, learn to let go, but never forget why we started this journey. Edit: I'm a dumbass that can't spell Anakin :)

The more characters and shows are created out of clone wars and the more often those characters keep showing up before and after the original trilogy, the more obvious it will be that theh don't want to do anything with the material disney bought and more that they just want the title star wars without the actually story, just its cool powers and nostalgia. If we keep seeing bad batch and rebels and clone wars characters popping up in mando but not the og trilogy and only in New shows and stories it is going to start looking more and more contrived.

It is not often that breaching canon is a good idea, but in this instance Filoni made absolutely the right decision. What would we have gotten out of Ahsoka being killed? "OK, a character everyone expected to die from the very beginning is now dead. Hope you didn't get too emotionally invested in her! But hey, Almightly Continuity has been restored! Now lets get on to setting up A New Hope." Does that sound even remotely satifying on an emotional level? Killing Ahsoka would have been a mistake. Having her actually survive her fight at the Temple gave the many viewers who grew to love her character something they desperately wanted and did not expect- a rare bright spot in a dark universe.

If u can't handle the death of a character u enjoy then why even watch most films or TV shows. Imo her dying in rebels would've been very fitting, only reason she's alive is cos of contrivance and regardless of how much I like her character I can't respect that. Filoni needs to let go of his attachments
@Lazarus1095
@Lazarus1095 2 жыл бұрын
@@TY-km8hj The answer to your question is that, in this instance, killing her off was no longer dramatic or original. With every major character outside of the movie canon dead or expected to die as an inevitability, having her live became both highly desirable and unexpected. The goal is to tell a great story, not check the boxes. Killing characters you like for the sake of strong drama makes sense. That is why Ned Stark's death was so important. Inversely, killing one more character you like because it is their time to join the huge pile of corpses you've been conditioning the audience to get used to for the past two decades is pointless. I believe Tolkien had a word for this. It is called "eucatastrophe".

I disagree. I think killing off a character to move on is lazy writing. It's what the sequels did. Ahsoka can go in many directions. Since they ruined Luke, I think her and Ezra should go to the unknown regions of space and begin they're own jedi order. Many easy ways to create new characters that has more depth and thought than just killing people off. If you want to watch a show with new characters maybe they will come out with a show solely focusing on Rose or Geode. I'm sure it will be great.

I don't know why so many people are convinced filoni isn't able to let go of his characters just because ahsoka didn't die in rebels, or that he won't be able to give an appropriate send-off to the character. We've seen kanan jarrus, who was a main character for four seasons of rebels, die in one of the best scenes of animated star wars. More recently, we've seen cad bane, a character that filoni was closely attached to for over 10 years, die as well. They took their time, but they died when the moment was right. There's a reason why ahsoka is still alive. She wasn't killed in order 66 or by vader's hand because then she would just be another generic jedi character that has a predictable death. The explanations for her surviving those 2 events (her leaving the order and the world between worlds) are what DEFINED her character and made her unique. She will most probably die someday, and when filoni said that she might still be alive during the sequels, he probably said it just to throw us off (ahsoka being dead if her voice is heard as that of a ghost is the obvious thought). That being said, I do believe people getting tired of her is owed, more to the fact that she survived her duel with Vader, to the fact that she's being overused. She didn't need to be in the mandalorian, and she DEFINITELY shouldn't have been in tbobf. They should have just announced her own show and maybe end her story there

A different reason for Ahsoka being absent in OT - There were two things from Anakin's past helping to keep him on the dark side. His hatred for Kenobi after all that went down at the end, and his love for Ahsoka, one of the things he could not give up. Padme died, so Anakin could let her go, and Obi-wan sacrificed himself to remove himself from the equation. Ahsoka, once she realized she could not save him, could sense that she needed to stay away to allow Anakin to believe she was dead as well and could let her go, so when Ezra saved her she found a portal back to the real world in a time after Luke had worked his magic. With both of those obstacles removed and the emperor dead, Luke was finally able to reach the good side of Anakin and save his father. Then she could come back to look for Ezra.

The point is by having her survive (mostly due to being popular and I say this as a fan of her character so no hate) she would and should have not survived the clone Wars. Having her survive into Luke's Jedi order would be really hard to square. Havin Anakin kill her would simply have been wayyy obvious and while useful, also quite repetitive. Vader would also have been pushed close to the irredeemable brink in the eyes of the viewers and his redemption has its questionable sides already. The world between worlds added a nice mystery linked to the mortis gods, and the path Anakin refused to take. It also gives a nice reason why Ahsoka was not in the movie trilogy, and even maybe why Yoda thought she was dead, having felt her die on Malachor but not sensing the world between worlds in the same manner. I honestly hope for Ahsoka to have a long future story arc, and I truly hope she is still alive after the whole "Rise of Skywalker" nonsense goes down.

Anakin was irredeemable in everyone's eyes but Luke's even after Anakin died. He murdered children by the dozen and contributed to torture, murder, and the enslavement of trillions of people by aiding Palpatine. Just look back in history at any of history's true villains and imagine one of them having a change of heart and saying, "Oops--my bad, I'm okay now. Everything forgiven?" Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Idi Amin, Ghengis Khan...none of these evil men would have redeemed themselves by flipping sides at the end and helping the good guys win. Justice isn't that cheap. Anakin may have done the right thing at the end by helping Luke, and showing (albeit rather late) he loved his son, but that didn't erase his literal DECADES of evil. That so many people can hand-wave off his atrocities because "reasons" makes me realize just how many fucked-up people we have in the real world.

It's not really a plot hole that she wasnt in the original trilogy. That can easily explained that she was off searching for Ezra. Filoni was right to keep her alive. I cant wait for the Ahsoka show. People complained about the prequels but now most fans love them. That's what fans are going to do with these series. They'll complain about what "should've happened" in the shows, but later they'll look back with fondness. Book of Boba Fett was a great show (even with all it's flaws) and I think the Ahsoka show has potential to be just as good or better.

I totally agree with this. I think the people complaining are mostly Millennials who have had tons of SW’s around for the entirety of their lives. For us older fans I love how they tie a new character into the story and bring so much more depth to a character we grew up with. I can’t tell you how much more I see in Vader now with all the backstory. Things that meant nothing before now have such depth. Every little pause and inflection now mean something about the character. I have no problem with Ashoka living. That being said I would have understood her dying in the duel with Vader. I think tying her in with the WBW is great. She already has a tie in with the daughter so this is the natural extension. Overall she is one of the best written characters in all of SW’s and as long as she is integrated into the story in a plausible way I am a fan.

Ahsoka's easily one of my favorite characters in Star Wars, but I agree that her characterization needs some love. She's in Rebels for like 4 episodes, and gets almost no development other than "I am no Jedi". Then in Mando/BOBF she's just around, and still gets frustratingly little development. I want to see how her experiences have shaped her into a woman and (possibly?) a Jedi. It feels like she hasn't really changed at all (on screen) since Order 66.

yes i agree and maybe she can get the life that Anakin wanted for himself, it just seems like EVERY character dies prematurely and doesn't get to do so on their own terms ( obi-wan and yoda being exceptions but even they were in exile) it would make star wars a little less depressing to know that a truly loved character got to live a full life the way they wanted to

Ahsoka's fate is perfect to me. We need to keep a conduit between what is " Star War" from the past and what will be the new "Star Wars". Unless you want to see a new Star Wars like the bullshit that the new Star Trek has become and Kennedy went out of her way to destroy what is Star Wars? We have already lost Yoda, Kenobi and Anakin, before he became Vadar, do we really want to lose her? In season 7, even though she's not of the old Jedi order, she exemplified what people felt a Jedi should be. The world between worlds is not time travel but intersections of time events, Ezra pulling Ashoka out a time line of death. Dave, Jon and George will it to correct many of the wrong Disney cannon arches by using Ashoka. Who knows there characters like Vintress that we may still see in future productions of Star Wars. I believe the intentions of Dave and Jon are a hell of alot better than Kennedy's?

While I do agree that her dying against Vader in Rebels would have been a great, emotional ending to her character, I think what Dave did with The World Between Worlds is far better of a choice. After all, it is episodes like that, and like the Mortis arc, that really make the fans stop and think about everything they think they know. Same goes with the entire character of the Bendu. Also, I never saw The World Between Worlds as some sort of time travel. It does essentially the same thing, but I don't think that a character could enter one dorrway and exit another. Which I actually think is shown as such in the episode itself. It us a way of ALTERING time, butbut not time TRAVEL. As for Ahsoka's story... Well, Dave has been pretty good as coming up with ways to make her presence throughout the universe not be a contradiction or plothole. Her presence in Rebels was perfectly fine as the entirety of Clone Wars season 7 was planned (not to mention that she didn't die at the end of season 5 anyway) at that moment in time. Her coming back in season, while a "retcon", was more of a "she never died". It's as if Ezra ALWAYS pulled her away from death. It's made even more evident in the episode when it's noted that Ezra can't save Kanan because if he does, he wouldn't be alive, which would just cause the grandfather paradox (but in the reverse order). Because Kanan is alive and can't save Ezra, Ezra can never have saved Kanan (or Ahsoka for that matter), thus meaning Kanan dies anyway, leading to Ezra saving Kanan again. And then obviously, her being alive in Mandalorian and Boba Fett (while not necessarily NEEDING to show up) also makes perfect sense. I do understand the argument that Dave is just too attached, but at the time, there's nothing wrong with that. Everyone dies eventually, and so obviously Ahsoka will HAVE to die in universe. But it doesn't mean that she can't continue having stories for years to come.

I don't think Ahsoka should have died in Rebels. I can't say for sure what her fate should have been, but if she croaks in Rebels, she's basically just Galen Marek without the redemption arc. That said, I think the way to save her was wrong. The problem with her character is that until the Mandalorian she really has only been defined through Anakin. In that role I think she should have died in TCW as per George Lucas' intention. Her dying on Malachor is just a narrative dead end, and if you have to kill off characters to show that Darth Vader of all people is a bad dude, you are doing it wrong. I think there is a good character there, but it needs to be built. Her two live-action appearances were interesting, as they seem to put her into the Prequel Jedi- camp, despite her earlier characterization. At most I would say that the big problem with her has been that she's been largely superfluous since Rebels S2 finale, which is likely why people demand she should have died there.

Thor, i’d like to hear your take on this. At the end of Clone Wars, Ashoka makes a point of not killing any clones cause she feels is not their fault, that they are being manipulated, that they will always be her brothers if you may. But in Revenge of the Sith, Yoda and Obi Wan, when they go to the temple, they have no problem with killing a bunch of troops. I kind of agree with that. For me he isn't 'redeemed' just because he threw the Emperor down a shaft - that doesn't make up for his pure evil over 23 years; but Ahsoka was actually the one success in his life, so having her live is a way of showing that the monster was at one time a good person.

I wasn’t happy about Ahsoka and Vader’s duel in Rebels for similar reasons. When it came to Obi-Wan, Padmé and Luke, Vader wanted them at his side or-failing that-not dead by his hand. (“Together we can rule the galaxy as father and son.”/“…together we can rule the galaxy, make things the way we want them to be.”“Don’t make me kill you.”/“Don’t make me destroy you.”) Vader was too eager for this fight. I also think we should have seen Ahsoka’s thought process as she decided that she was willing to kill her former master. That’s a big decision to make, though a reasonable one, so I believe it’s damaging to the story to skip over the process of making that decision.

To be honest, I don't really mind the retcon via TWBW. As much as it "isn't Star Wars" , I'd rather they use it to clean up some mess from the sequels. Disney seems to really like strong female characters, so I'm happy that they can satiate that desire with one that is actually well developed and not a complete Mary Sue. She does have that link to The Daughter as well which is one of the ways they are justifying her fate as much as they do. Idk, I think it's cool that "The Ones" have so much to do with her and I'd really like to see a series where she gets heavily involved with the force. It seems even more poetic that way as she is technically not a Jedi (so not walking completely along the light path) and that's why she's probably the best fit to go into depth with this kind of stuff. People complain about where she is in the OT a whole lot but a Galaxy is a large place. There are so many battles that we didn't witness and likely many Jedi with their own stories that affect the fate of the galaxy in different ways. I always think of Cal Kestis in this regard (an excellent character for Obi-Wan and Ashoka to meet) who is essentially preventing the Empire from gaining hidden knowledge that would give the Sith unrivaled power. Either way, they need to keep delivering with the love and care that they have been putting into their most well received stories. Ideally we'd have a world where the events in the sequels are set into an alternate timeline as well because of the damage they did but we will have to wait and see.

There's no problem if you really want to be constantly aware of the fourth wall. It's just such a glaring plot device, I don't know how we manage suspension of disbelief after that. It works fine for Ezra and Thrawn to be sent off to another part of the galaxy through the OT era, and I would have been ok with the same for Asoka if that had been plotted with no time-bending detour. But the more I think about the world between worlds, the harder it is to stop thinking about the behind the scenes going forward.

I think the death in Rebels would have worked very well. Especially with her last conversation with Rex mirroring their first. But I also like that they brought back the more mystical elements of the force with the world betwen worlds, without making it an easy place to access again. Ahsoka starting her search for Ezra is also a good enough excuse for her not beeing in the original trilogy. And as one commenter already pointed out getting happy endings for some of the characters would be great. I really want Ahsoka to be by Rex side when he dies or the other way around. As for the time travel angle it could explain much, like Legends and Disney Canon, and if Disney allowed it, someone could write a novel or a short series how Legends could be a timeline because of events that didn’t happen in Disney Canon. For Ashoka, as others have said explains where Ashoka and Ezra are during the original movies. Though if they are doing a series about Snips please let us know what happened to Ezra and Thrawn, and maybe explore the unknown regions and species there of, like Yuuzhan Vong.

I understand why Ashoka being alive during the OT might make Yoda a liar and create continuity problems. Well, I think we should keep in mind that the Force itself didn't want her to open the temple on Lothal herself, since she wasn't a Jedi. Yes, she was a Force-user, but she rejected the responsibility of the Jedi Order, and the galaxy suffered the consequences. She has the heart of the Jedi, yes. But was she a Jedi, in how she acted and what responsibilities she accepted? One could argue technically not. I think that most people agree that the best Jedi, like Plo Koon, followed the will of the Force. And there is definitely an argument that when it counted most, Ashoka chose what she wanted(time to figure out her trust issues) over what the Force wanted, hurting Anakin deeply. You could argue that Ashoka turned her back on the galaxy when she withdrew from the galaxy at large, at a time when it needed protection from Sith. And you also could argue that Ashoka creating white Kyber Crystal's represents her turning back on the hate and passion that brought Anakin to the dark side as well as a Jedi's "sacred responsabilities" which exposed Anakin to situations that induce dark side hatred. She chose to be herself, which by her own admission, was neither Jedi or Sith. Not saying that is my position, but it does exist. So therefore, Yoda saying Luke was the last Jedi could be true, from a certain point of view. But I do think this discussion is more Grey than people are giving it credit for. Also there was beautiful poetry in how Ashoka helped Ezra along. I think it is some of the best in all of SW. Seeing a wounded Ashoka and a wounded Ezra helping heal each other's wounds made both Ezra and Ashoka much more powerful characters. This was an important lesson for both of them, and it was something they learned outside of their master's tutelage. It was an important step to Ezra becoming a mature Jedi and Ashoka becoming a mature Force-User.

Her walking away from the order is not just a technicality, she renounced all affiliation with the Jedi and doesn't teach their ways. She's just simply a force user who goes around doing what she thinks she should. Luke was the last Jedi and the last hope for the rebellion because Leia couldn't have been trained in a way capable of letting her fight against the emperor and Vader. Dumb argument.

I think it's interesting to look at how Dave likens Ahsoka (after the world between worlds) to Gandalf (after he becomes Gandalf the White.) He compares the two a lot in interviews, from the look of her cloak to the way that she should've died, it fits well. If that comparison is to continue to be held, she will likely die after completing what she was brought back to do. The thing is, I'm not really sure exactly what that is. The most likely candidate is that she'll die in order to save Ezra, or soon after she does find him. I think that would work, but it would end up leaving us with Ezra, a character that doesn't really have anything to do or anything driving him forward in the narrative, especially when it comes bringing everything closer to the sequel trilogy era.

Honestly, I think Ahsoka was actually laying low during the events of the original trilogy, possibly processing a lot of the events especially pertaining to Anakin after discovering that he is in fact Vader, but that's a side note. I think she laid low during the original trilogy because she was technically dead and they won with out her. She seemed to really put emphasis on keeping the time line what it is, as shown with her being able to see that if Ezra pulled Kanan out of that moment they all would have died. Thus, I feel like she spent those years either reflecting/meditating on her past and her pain or exploring old Jedi ruins (which might be how she finds her staff that she has in the Rebels epilogue) in order to preserve the events of the original trilogy as they happened when she was "dead." As for Ahsoka dying at Vader's hand, I agree it would be poetic and really show how much Vader has suppressed Anakin and twisted his own past to only see the pain, loss, anger, betrayal, etc., but I also think that, the fact that Vader was giving the death blow right as Ezra pulled her out still provides this representation of Anakin's fall. He was still at the place where we was will and wanted to kill his old padawan, someone he loved as a sister who, Vader convinced himself, abandoned him.

I've got this idea I love for the Kenobi show BUT it revolves around Ahsoka I really want his show to be more personal drama than action adventure. I don't really expect that to be the case, but a girl can dream. Everything about Obi Wan's life is just so acutely tragic. He has lost everything: his home, his identity, his path in life, the world he grew up in, the world he fought for, everyone he had ever loved or connected with. And I wanna see all of that, especially the loneliness out in BFE hiding to protect himself and Luke because he has lost all other purpose. It's gone. All of it. So the series finds him miserable, but set in his mission to defend Luke And then he finds out that Ahsoka survived order 66, and he learns that he is no longer alone. He had an incredible connection built on many of the same experiences: being raised in the temple, learning the ways of the Jedi, defending the Republic, fighting in the Clone Wars But they also have a deeply personal connection I would love to see explored more. Obi Wan is the reason Ahsoka was Anakin's padawan in the first place. They are the two people in the world who loved him best. So Obi Wan finds himself at an impasse. He has a duty to Luke, but does he not have a duty to the Jedi to go and find her? A duty to Ahsoka herself? What is the honorable thing or the moral thing or the right thing? So Obi Wan battles with himself trying to figure out what he should do. (maybe chat it up with Qui-Gon) and he finally decides to go out and find her... And then he hears that she died in a duel with Vader, his Padawan and her Master. I just want tragic and upsetting things to happen to characters I love

I love the Ahsoka novel, and was thrilled when it showed her effectively achieve Jedi knighthood by passing what amounted to a Sith trial. I think killing her off in Rebels would have been easy, but would have diminished her apotheosis from the novel. I'd suppose her absence from the original trilogy is explained the same narrative way that Ezra's is: by giving her something to keep away from the Empire. Ezra was removed from the Galactic Civil War in order to remove Grand Admiral Thrawn from said war. If his intellect, and his Tie Defenders, had stayed in that universe, then the Rebel Alliance would not have stood a chance. Rebels explained Ezra's absence by having him keep Thrawn away. I would not be surprised if Ahsoka's absence revolves similarly around the World between Worlds. If Darth Sidious ever got a foothold on that plane, again, the rebels would be finished. Ahsoka thus spent the whole of the Original Trilogy keeping access to that plane away.

I think Vader killing Ahsoka would have been a fitting end to her story, however, because she didn’t die then, they should take the opportunity to tell good stories with her, however, I am cautiously optimistic because of recent character decisions by Disney.

Star Wars is overall a depressing series, everyone dies in an unhappy way. Let Ashoka be a rare character who gets a happy ending. And in the mean time let's spend as much time with her as we can.

To me Ashoka should have been written out a long time ago(Hell it seems the writers have been trying to do that but the fans won't stop demanding she come back.) with her getting a single mention or two so we get closure on where she was post clone wars (Should have been dead so no more plot holes come up from her.) Honestly every time they bring her back she feels less and less like the character she was introduced as in clone wars. when she left the order it was a good her arc had come to a close enough that a mention or a very brief one off and dies on screen in a heroic fashion scene would have ended it nicely. Instead they keep dragging her out cause fan demands and brand recognition changing her more and more each time. Like the Obi-wan series the Ashoka should does not need to exist and will in all likely hood ruin any and all character development they ever had.

Ahsoka will never leave this shadow of Anakin Skywalker because Filoni's writing never permitted it. TCW Season 7 undid the chance of her truly redefining herself as separate from the Jedi. But now, Disney and Filoni have made her inherently linked to Anakin's story, including her involvement with his son. Because of this, she will be a continual problem in the narrative, and Luke will never quite be rid of her shadow in the stories following the Original Trilogy.

Her ideals are different than Luke's. She has the goal of just helping people in the galaxy as she sees fit. Luke is set to start a new order. It seems she admires his goal in some way. But her plans are different. Luke fails anyway in the sequels so at this point she is the only one who can perhaps somehow save the entire plot of the chosen ones purpose.
