I’m 14, I’ve always think about what I wanted to do but being a diver, pilot, or astronaut has been my dreams. I’m scared I’m gonna waste a lot of time doing something that is useless so I hope I can be an airline pilot one day. I know maybe to some of you it’s funny but goddamn I’m scared of my future, I’ve always been like this. I’ve always wanted to be a diver pilot or astronaut because 1) I travel a lot with an airplane, my father is a marine biologist, he manage supplies and productions on a big company in France and whenever he travels he brings me with him 2) I live in a beach house I love the sea and swimming and diving in general 3) I’ve always been into space.

Got recommended this because I'm thinking of going to flight school. Never was sure what I wanted to do for my career and what to do in college. Went to an art college for game and art design (dropped out because it made me lose interest in art), now going to school for nursing (my job as a CNA is making me rethink if that's truly what I want because I hate it), so maybe I might try for flight school. Always loved flying and found interest since I went to the pearl harbor aviation museum for a field trip in kindergarten and we did flight simulations which were hella cool. Maybe this is meant for me, except I think the con is schooling and certifications are expensive

@chriswhitelaw31263 жыл бұрын
The good, is without doubt the view from the office window. The excitement of flying an aircraft is second to none and an experience that very few people will ever have. The biggest downside is the £50,000+ you will be oaying for your training. The bad....well, you're a bus driver with wings, and to begin your career you will be working for one of the lesser carriers. Dont expect BA, or Virgin or ANY of the big players to even look at you until you have a couple of thousand hours on type. So, Easyjet, Ryanair, Flybe (now defunct). Expect to be on shorthaul ferrying Essex boys and girls to and from Majorca, and other Spanish/Greek sickspots....and ferrying them back again, plastered out of their skulls. At least on the flightdeck you are spared the smell of vomit and sangria....and a rather dodgy paella. You will be tired ALL the time. Flight time limitations state you mustnt fly for more than 100 hours in any four week period, but fly them you will, and some carriers also make sure you are scheduled into contingency as well....that part of aviation law that stops you from refusing to contine with 20 minutes of the flight to go! Then, to keep your night rating, your company will schedule you to fly a certain number of day hours and night hours every month. On top of that...let's see....ohh yes, the simulator checks when they throw everything at you. And the medicals......at any point you can lose your licence. (Most pilots take out loss of licence insurance). You also get used to only getting paid when the engines are running....so, if you end up on airport standby, in some airlines you aren't getting paid. Youre there, in uniform, ready to fly in case someone calls in sick, but unless you actually fly youre there for nothing. And then came COVID. A lot of airlines shut down, and their pilot's ratings expired in the first month of not flying. Some will never return to flying. Some will want to but cant. (Some airlines are revalidating their pilots ratings in the simulators, but theres a finite number of pilots they can get trhough each day (and night). Others will expect YOU to revalidate your multi, Instrument and night ratings, leaving only the type rating to be done. You will also be flying with different people every day and night of your working life. Don't expect to be part of a regular, stable crew. It just doesnt work like that. Me? I found out that the reality of being a pilot simply didnt match up for me.
@alexdavid74042 жыл бұрын
Really been a pilot doesn’t match for .. why did you say so !?

@@alexdavid7404 Surely you can read through the lines!?! I'm sure he means for most people, unlike the video narrator who seems to have had a silver spoon stuck up his arse all his life and his entire career paved with silk and honey, for most of us, life in the airlines is not all what it's cracked up to be. And how right he his!!!! Most Captains I know who weren't lucky to land a job with Virgin or Britannia (now TUI), who lost out with COVID, are much happier in their new industry career.

Just passing through doing some research on becoming a pilot. That comment you made on being a regional pilot surprised me. How strict is the aviation community on tattoos. Im getting ready to start training and me having tattoos on my forearms worries me. Im a veteran so in the military, tattoos were commonplace.
@XMRSNIP3ZZ5 жыл бұрын
I'm about to go into flight school and have forearm tattoos. You would have wear long sleeve shirts to keep them covered.
@vladimirosipov54664 жыл бұрын
U will just have to wear long sleeve shirts

I used to work for a regional, technically it’s against the rules but nobody cared. Guys would have exposed tattoos all the time. We also wore north face jackets (not approved with the uniform), nobody cared. However if you get a strict chief pilot they may have something to say about it.

My little sister just graduated from high school and has wanted to become an airline pilot. She already has a few hours flying time in small planes with my uncle. She is looking forward to applying to flight training school.

@@2isceez You don't need a degree for the regionals but the majors require a 4year bachelor degree. If i were you I would get my 4 year degree first then go to ATP flight school. Also, your degree doesn't have to be aviation related . You want a degree you can fall back on just incase you lose your medical, furloughed, lost interest in piloting, etc. Best of luck to you.
@kaderichardson82425 жыл бұрын
Some Universities offer a flight program where you can be enrolled in college to get a degree while also being able to have flight time. For example, you can get a “Professional Pilot” degree at henderson state University in Arkansas while also earning your ATP license.
@sally23953 жыл бұрын
@@billrussell4832 there is also flow now from regional to mainline without a degree.

I worked for SWA in Kansas City on ramp and then provisioning. Then I quit and joined the railroad 15 years ago and now I am a locomotive engineer which is a similar lifestyle. I would say one other factor, not sure if it is a pro or con, but it seems I am always on the move. Never in the same place for an extended period of time. I always tell people, I am either here or there or somewhere in between.

When I training for my PPL, I remember the section about the powers and the responsibilities of a Pilot/ Captain. I was told that the Captain can arrest any person on the flight for a illegal act. Like if Pilot/ Captain witness a illegal act on his flight he can arrest or obligated to report this illegal act in flight. If found that the Captain witness this illegal act did not arrest or report this illegal act. Can the Captain loss his licence ? Can the Captain be arrested ?
