@@tbcreloaded7529 Black men dating out is not a problem in itself. The reasons blk men date out vs. blk women is vastly different. BW face a statistical shortage of marriagable BM, BM do not face such quandary. A major influence of SOME BM dating out is due their idolization of whitness, and desire for submission. There are like a hundred videos from the black male manosphere demeaning BW while saying that non-blk are the beauty standard and should be pursued. I think it's sometimes easier to encounter a person who shares "overall chemistry"/organic connectivity than our often strict list of preferences/types. Sometimes those perceived preferences don't align with our true needs. Find love that makes you happy without much effort or undue and unnecessary chaos....starting with self.

When dating out ladies, also consider that it’s a cultural exchange (meaning you’re learning from the other person as well). Idk about being with a WM since that’s not my experience lol but my partner is Chinese & we have a lot of fun exchanging cultural experiences, traditions, barriers & ideas (as well as critiques). I didn’t grow up in a predominantly black area , so dating out was always on the table & ironically the black peoples around were very anti-black (Suburban Black Girl Chronicles). As long as your partner (of any race or gender identity )is open minded, empathetic & patient those cultural exchanges can be fun! Just stay away from cultural “cosplayers” (i.e black identified non-black peoples). Just my two cents !! Great video Kim, love this convo!!

Maybe I got lucky that I have never had to deal with racism or anything with him? No bigoted parents or siblings. The cultural thing never mattered too much cause I spent half my life in the suburbs. I just wanna say how much I appreciate these kinds of videos, even though I'm not black, because I relate to these experiences so much as a middle eastern person. Dating out of my culture is not something I want to do, not because I'm not attracted to people outside of it, but because I can't do with someone simply sympathizing with the stuff regarding the culture I am in. I need someone who understands it inside and out. I don't like having to justify my culturally influenced behavior and habits constantly because "they don't make sense", why I'm always code-switching, or any of it. I just need someone to get it and nod sympathetically without even a hint of stigma behind their communication. That means everything to me, and if I don't have that I'd rather not be monogamous with anyone.

So I date out and get treated like a human. Like a woman. I know that's uncommon but I'd rather not die alone or settle for someone who doesn't value me for the sake of brown skin. Dating out doesn't mean being limited to white men, I've dated different poc and enjoyed it. It's been fun learning about other people's cultures and being part of their traditions. It’s seeing asian and Hispanic women dating WHOEVER values them and having happy relationships while seeing BW politicise everything and act like it’s an L if you’re with anyone who isn’t black. It’s black men sullying our image on a global stage and thinking what does that say about BW that we still prioritise this man. It’s reading study’s that show “black women have similar odds of escaping poverty as white women until they marry black men” and seeing all the hurdles we have to cross and disadvantages and knowing that IR dating could be a means for BW to elevate the position as well as comfort in this society. I love the statement of not being scared of being alone at 55. I am not quite there. As a Rwandan immigrant of French nationality living in the UK, who is still striving for financial success, I do feel like money plays a role in this. Because part of the fear of growing old alone is about who will take care of you if you are unpartnered AND childless. I am aware that there is a lot to unpack here, including culture, but my point is that class, financial freedom and the systems that have been put in place in the West to replace family and community structures - for those who can afford them - play a role in being able to divest from partnering and, in a very twisted, f***ed up way, having children.

I look at myself with my kinky hair and flat nose and full lips and think I’m fine af, and when I see a BM with those same features, that is attractive. Blackness is attractive. I genuinely don’t understand comments like these. I’m not telling us to be loyal to BM. I’ve been hurt. I’m angry, and some days I’m bitter 🤷🏾♀️. I get it. I’m saying acting like attraction to people who look like you is silly at best, stupid at worse is anti-Black and insulting. I feel like what holds a lot of black women back from dating outside of their race is 1. They are really trying to hold the black family together and 2. When they consider dating a black man, they take into consideration just their characteristics/qualities but when it comes to dating outside of their race, the consider their qualities plus everything that their race has done to them past, present, and future.

The farthest to divest on the spectrum. There's so much to unpack with dating and other life choices. We are all just human and trying to do what's best for ourselves. I kinda resent this conversation because of the way it gets hijacked by divestors; specifically those who are operating from a place of trauma and self-hate. I get that these particular BW are down so bad because of the trauma of constant mysogynoir but the conversation surrounding dating out becomes instead about idolising/pedestalising WM and other non-blk people. Interracial dating inherently isn’t a bad thing. People can find good, healthy love with those of other races. That’s not what I take issue with. I remember specifically with Lipgloss’s 4C hair video when she made the joke about, a certain type of response that kept coming up from a weird amount of BW went along the lines of "see this proves that wyt men love us/this is why we should go to wyt men" (I'm paraphrasing) and it's something I've been seeing more of in other situations and online spaces centering BW. Those women were uncritically encouraging other BW to actively seek out relationships with WM as though they suddenly aren't the biggest perpetrators and beneficiaries of white supremacy. 2 are true: a large number of BW have mysogynoir related dating trauma from BM AND the majority of yt ppl are racist (be it overtly or covertly. BW are getting bs from all sides and so we have to vet ALL the people that come into our lives because there are fetishisers, abusers, liars, and what have you in all groups of men. While I can understand BW who only choose to date BM (one reason I’ve seen a lot is that for them it is important that a partner have an intimate understanding of racialised experience that yt ppl can sympathise with to a degree but never understand or access the way another blk person can), I can’t understand choosing to exclusively date yt ppl, very few of whom have shown to actually be anti-racist. If a person is anti-racist, it comes with a life-long dedication and hard work, learning and unlearning. Especially because we are all conditionined from youth to buy into white supremacy. The default for all wyt ppl is racism. Whether it be overt or covert. So it's weird that for some BW, somehow the answer to "go where you're wanted and appreciated" is "go to the wyt community/WM". The most ardent protectors of wyt supremacy (that self-hating BM are striving to emulate which is how all this started in the first place) are not gonna save BW or their self-image. Why are there BW saying things like "see, y'all need to go out there and get yourself a WM and have a struggle free relayionship" like we haven't seen the BM and WW in fetishistic relationships be nice to each other and complement each other until something snaps and the hidden underlying anti-blackness jumps out. I feel like a have to be clear that being open to dating out itself is not bad I’m talking about a distinct phenomenon amongst a sub-group of BW who engage in rhetoric that gets more openly white supremacist as you get deeper into those spaces: i.e. Buying into the white saviour myth, or that WM are inherently superior, and trying to justify encouraging other BW to chase after WM by glossing over their contributions to mysogynoir and "absolving" them of just how much racism they dole out as a group. The rhetoric also increasingly uses white supremacist talking points to demean BM. Truthfully, there is criticism to be had for a number of BM driven by self-hate but not through racist stereotypes and essentialist statements about the inherent natures and values of WM vs BM. BW "going where we're wanted" becomes laying at the feet of wyt men and distancing ourselves further not just from all BM but from blackness (with the implication that it is a cradle of dysfunction) and to embrace value placed on us by a supposed messianic benevolent patriarchal white/non-blk gaze.

I’ve read all the comments and I had to reply just to say this is the best take here!! The comments are scary with the amount of white supremacy talking points from Black women. Like we have to be so careful. When they say “go where you’re loved!” I’m always like and where’s that?? What communities are magically devoid of anti-Blackness/sexism/misogynoir? Now by all means date/marry who you choose but babyyyy the trauma and self-hate is painful to watch. I just want them to see there are no White knights, there’s no utopian country for Black women and sad as it is to swallow there’s no certainty of good treatment from any specific group of men. This is a global issue that spans cultures. I think this divestment community could be doing real harm by positioning WM & others as some sort of “safe zone” where we won’t experience struggle.

Really, really well said here Probably some Blk women don't recognize the "default" anti-Black positions operating, esp. if they are subtle, hidden, or buried by the Whytes we deal with in our daily experiences. I know that I had to reflect on the feedback I heard fr a WM I had been seeing, that he was affected by public responses he received when we were out together. Though he didn't want to seem as if he was too bothered, he realized he was indeed unsettled by the anti-Blackness. Anyway, whatever, appreciate the conversation.

@@marisolania2696 White supremacy is such a cancer! You're right how scary it is. I'm glad it's not as prevalent in Kim's comments. Online I've seen blk women saying that they've sworn off all blk men because "why would I want an uneducated thug with multiple baby mamas that can't keep a job". I'm sadly not exaggerating, these girls sound like ultra right-wing newscasters the way they're talking about blk men. @Mx K is so right about where their trauma comes from but it's no excuse to align with (and spread the rhetoric of) literal racists. They talk as if other races of men (especially yt) are inherently better, smarter, more moral in a matter of fact way that mirrors the ideas that yt supremacists want people to believe. This put me off a lot of online spaces for blk women that I used to frequent. The last straw was when this lady tried to come at me for not appreciating being called exotic or being fetishised by yt men. It was giving "pick me, massaa!" Like im not gonna be happy to experience ANY type of sexual racism lol. Those spaces were supposed to be for unity because at the end of the day, as a group, blk women only really have each other but as yt supremacist ideology does, it seeped into the cracks, inflamed internalised racism and division. Making us weaker as a collective and recruiting more blk women to be agents of yt supremacy while encouraging their peers to join in. This take has the nuance this whole situation needs to be addressed with because mysognynoir is everywhere like you said. we need to be always discerning about who exactly gets access to our time, energy, bodies, resources etc. life is too short to spend disrespecting yourself for fleeting and meaningless validation

I say this as a woman who mostly partners with women- I come across A LOT of women who want to be with me yet have the “ick” when it comes to the thought of pleasuring a woman. I immediately choose to be strictly friends with those types of women because you can’t “out think” sexual desire nor should you have to. Thank you for this comment. Not only do they neglect to mention how difficult it is, they often do not mention that the stereotypes that Black men have of Black women are shared by white men. On this platform, many give the impression that "all of them" want us, when the reality is that many do not see us as viable partners. The thing that also annoys me is that I see a lot of people forward the falsehood that dating out automatically means that you will have healthy and prosperous relationships. Not only is it false, but it is also dangerous.
@breefree10132 жыл бұрын
I fully understand and relate to this. Still, I can’t ignore or deny other black women’s experiences. As a human we desire meaningful relationships(romantic and platonic). These are relationships where we feel validated, desired, and nourished. Most of us understand what it feels like to be having a bad time in life and calling that parent, cousin, or friend who just GETS you and rejuvenates your low spirit. Existing as a black woman is tiring. I am tired. We are tired. The world never ceases it’s tyrade against your hair, your skin, your features,etc. When you’re younger, you assume you can find solace from your own people. But lo and behold not all of us can. If black women are orating their need to divest on every orifice of the internet, I will support it. If this movement ensures that black women seeking life partners and fulfilling relationships reach this goal, I support it.

Exactly, so we'll put! BW and femmes just wanna exist as people. It's so hard when bs is coming at us from all angles. If it's not people out-right hating on us then it's some form of fetishisation. We're not hypersexual objects for others' gratification, we are not "so different that we're exotic", we are not tokens to make people feel like they are absolved of all racism because they've been with one or a few of us, we are not new experiences to try and sample, we are not mules tho carry out the political and emotional labour needed in our communities, we are not inspo porn being "strong BW" that are there to absorb all expectations and mistreatment while having no support without complaining, we are not punching bags, we are not insurance to be turned to only when all else fails, we are not infantalised charity cases that need to be saved from BM or loneliness by non-blk ppl with saviour complexes, we are not mirrors for Blk and non-Blk ppl alike to explore their own relationships with blackness, anti-blackness and mysogynoir. Fetishising and reducing BW while making monoliths out of them is so normalized that we stay having to vet the people that come into our lives. One thing that’s honestly very tiring to me regarding discussions on interracial dating and BW is this idea that you’re automatically going to have this whole host of non-black men who are going to want to date you if you are indeed open to non-black romantic partners. If you’re the type of person that has a relatively easy time meeting and connecting with promising romantic prospects, that’s great! But that isn’t everyone’s experience, and that should be acknowledged.

I agree! As someone who has always been interested in dating interracially, there is this mythology that somehow most white men and other non-black men are eager to date black women (more so than black men) and that just hasn’t been my experience. I think the women who say that tend to either not actually be in many nonblack spaces and use the relationships they see online as confirmation bias, or just happened to have a lot of success in those spaces and extrapolate that to all black women.

The next biggest hurdle to my attraction preference was thinking others wouldn’t find me attractive. Once I saw the truth that I am desired outside of my race and had exposure to others my attraction changed. I remember when Asian men stopped being othered in my eyes. They didn’t look feminine to me anymore they just looked like a different flavor of men. But masculine through and through no matter how much make up they may or may not have on. What if you're unlucky enough to be one of those women who experience violent, punishing nausea & vomiting every day of her pregnancy? Will you go into this venture knowing that your partner can hold things down financially if you're unable to work? And will he pamper you when he comes home? Will he hire someone to help you out around the house when you're too tired or too pregnant or a combination of the two? Will he do light cleaning? What about cooking? If he can't or won't or if he sucks at it - can he hire someone to do these things so you can relax & focus on being a mother if that's what you want or need? MOST women have pushed these "what-ifs" so far down they've convinced themselves they're impossible. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of pregnant women experience these hardships (& worse) every single day- & the women who have partners that love them enough to PROVIDE & PROTECT above all else will be happier & healthier than their 50/50 counterparts. Pregnant Black women experience higher mortality rates, medical issues & complications than their peers - of any other race. Ladies we have to remember, all men are socialized the same! They have to divest from their socialization to be suitable for me.

Black men are open to difference races so I don't think it's a problem for black women to be seems fair.

I think the only thing I would add to any of these types of conversations is I think we as Black women shouldn’t think that the only option outside of a Black man is a white one. There’s just too many other flavors of men to be limited to just Black or white.

True but because of colorism, when we speak on IR dating, WM are always going to be a big part of that convo, which is similar for all darker WOC
@lboogi2 жыл бұрын
@@namegirl28 I’m not seeing your point… white men do not need to be central in the concept of dating a non-Black man. Like at all. Colorism has nothing to do with Black women deciding to widen their options past white and Black men. It’s ladies choice.

The double standard for black men vs black women is crazy, Donald Glover and Jordan Peele get to marry out and yes we side eye but they don't get the criticism that a black woman would

As a black men I think BM and BW should keep their options open and should be open to dating out. Character is more important than race and always will be but to exclusively date out meaning you don’t date members of the race your in sounds like you need a therapy session

For me i have dated out of my race before … however when i think of getting married (which is something i personally desire) i feel a strong calling to raise more black children in this world that grow up loving themselves and being more aware and evolved than the generations that came before.

Oh ..wow...someone who thinks like me...my longest relationship was outside of my race too but now I have that desire too for more Blk children who are very self aware and empowered in their identity

I also have a problem with the idea of passing my wealth back to the white community because mixed people tend to date white meaning my lineage will be most likely become white and benefit from my labour as a bw.
@tamiaprescott74342 жыл бұрын
@@dlc2479 yeah i feel that too … and it’s like black children are never going to stop existing so it’s best that if we have the desire to have children that embody our blackness we raise them propel our community forward to the best of our ability
