I think part of it also is, that dogs don't really have a choice, like most people do. They are OWNED by people, being dependant on us for every single need, being as basic as getting food, being let out to pee and having a place to sleep. Dog owners must understand the responsibility that comes along with being in such a power position. And, as I said, I think that factors into the thing that dogs almost always forgive and trust again, if a nice person comes along, no matter the abuse they have been through .. they just don't have a choice, if they want to survive. Dogs are also pack animals, so for most of them it should come naturally to "obey", if done in a dog conform way..

My fiancé rescued a formerly abused dog once. He was an extremely elderly pom-pap who was found wandering in a parking lot, his fluffy coat so matted he walked with a hobble and covered in fleas and dirt. He had an eye that had been injured at some point and a scar on his throat from de-barking surgery, where they cut a dog's vocal cords so they can't bark. As a result of the surgery, he communicated in raspy snorting sounds and pawing at things. He was so fearful he would not even eat in the same room as people for a long time. But my fiancé worked with him and by the time he passed in summer 2017 he was a friendly, sweet-natured little old man. She only had him for a few years, but she is glad he got to learn that humans aren't all terrible before the end of his life. Thank you to all groomers who help the rescue process along, my fiancé does still remember the person who very calmly and patiently shaved all the little old man's mats out so he could walk properly again and receive flea treatments.

Wtf is de-barking surgery?
@twilight32723 жыл бұрын
@@thenoisyninja I've heard of it before. It's a procedure where they go in and literally sever parts of the flaps in the vocal cords so the dog no longer has a voice. One of the reasons this is done to smaller dogs a lot is because they "yip so much" and the owner gets fed up with them. It is widely considered horrifically unethical.

My dog was still like this too, im pretty sure her previous owners s3xually abused her and also physically abused her. (She doesn't like being pet nor touched around her waist or under her belly so I'm just assuming that. Also when my mom and my dad went to try to get her from the neighbors they just gave us her for free, they said they didn't want her so they were just gonna let her starve to death), but she still trusts people alot, every time I would go outside with my other dog, daisy to feed her, she would start spinning and wagging her tail, I wish humans would stop treating animals so badly, especially animals still full of love even after all that happens to them

My dog Cooper was wonderful, and he guarded me against men he did not know and even ones he did but did not like. _I can tell you with certainty _*_Cooper remained until his last day absolutely terrified of ALL POLICE_*_ no matter the circumstances._ I was pulled over once, and he was in the car, having to explain through a crack in the window that, "Officer, for your safety because of my dog, I need to exit the vehicle. The Officer, however, was afraid Cooper was going to break through the rear windshield to attack him. I was too. He pulled me over to warn me about passing when there was black ice. _I think it was because it was late November and Cooper was out the sunroof with his head and chest, eating dog cookies!_ :) *Dogs never forget who hurt them and who loved them.* Cooper died a year ago on 10/30/21. The last bit of your comment reminded me something my dad told me he did to a guy he saw on the side of the road punching a dog being held up by its neck (this was before I was born. My ma told me it is true also.) He told me he slammed his silverado in reverse and tackled the guy and beat him until he was unconscious(he's a rugged man.) The dog got away before my dad could grab him/her and take him/her to safety, but i'm sure the dog was doing better by itself (or possibly rescued shortly after) rather than being beat. My dad has a puppy bernese mountain dog and a great pyranese. He loves dogs! I'm the same way. In my eyes, if someone is being physically abusive to a helpless animal, i'll get physical with them. @@Fizz-Pop as much as I would love to go to a shelter and adopt, I can't. if I want a pet I need to look for certain aspects, animals that can be on their own for long periods of time, less hair, able to socialize with other animals. If I find the dog/cat I'm looking for at a shelter, 100% I will adopt that animal. I'm not trying to defend over breeders or puppy mills cause that shit is awful, but I will defend people who do extensive research so they and their animal companions will have the best life together. I say this cause a lot of people harass others for having to get specific pets for specific things, myself included.
@TheCrazyredheadaz3 жыл бұрын
@@Fizz-Pop Keep in mind though that if ever you (meaning the ambiguous you, not you specifically) do decide to check out a Puppy Mill/Farm, even though you get charged money to purchase your new pet, you may be actually saving a dog or cat from outright abuse to at the very least neglect when they can no longer be of use to the mill for breeding. A friend went to a breeder looking for a miniature Yorkie, but the breeder was out of Yorkie's, however they had a miniature pure bred Maltese that they could no longer use for breeding because She was over 5yo. If they couldn't get someone to buy her, they were going to send her to a shelter. All of her life from the time she was old enough to start breeding, she was kept in a small cage where She basically pooped, ate, and slept in that same space. She only had human contact, or other dog contact when She was taken out of her cage to get pregnant and then back in her cage She would go. My friend bought Tiffany, saving her from a life where she wasn't even wanted anymore. She was a spoiled rotten little princess, and after my friend had her for 5 years Tiffany became mine. Tiffany saved me from nearly suicidal depression, lonelyness, and helped me with severe PTSD issues. She gave me a reason to have to get up and take care of another's needs and fight to come to terms with my disabilities and was a daily reminder that in spite of my issues, there were others who needed me to be there for them. So I gave her the best last 4 years of her life, when She died in my arms one morning right after I got home from major dental work. While I don't condone breeder mills where the animals are used like assembly line worker's producing puppies and kittens for profit, I am very grateful that my friend found and adopted Tiffany, then gave her to me. My point is that you never know how God plans to put you together with the pet that needs you as much as you find out that you needed it in your life too. How we found and got the cat we have now is without any doubt an arrangement on God's part for us to have found him, and he is a rescue we found at an Emergency Animal Hospital that they were looking to find a home for.

I have always had dogs, but about 15 yrs ago ended up at a shelter looking for a dog for my sister in law. When I passed a large cage with a very unhappy, bedraggled old GSD, the look on his face was: Please don't leave me here any longer. He had been put in a row with barking pit bulls, and when I asked about him, he had been there for months. Well..... He was the gentlest, sweetest, best behaved guy, and spent the last two years of his old life in our very loving, caring home. Anyone who adopts a senior dog who has been "locked up" will know the way it is. Any health challenge that these old dogs present is paid back in ways we can't describe.
