Always use the tractor, when you can, to lift walls. The tractor makes it safer. When you two had the wall section standing, a breeze could have blown it over. Trying to save the wall is when someone gets hurt. Those wall braces are not enough. They need better anchor cleats to hold the walls in a strong wind gust. Hopefully you won't get any wind until the framing is finished. When I was 17, I saw a 7 story steel frame for a building blowdown. 13 men were killed and several other mangled. It wasn't braced. Hey Jeremy when you screw your supports to the floor. Screw a 1 foot 2x4 to the floor then screw your diagonal support board to that instead of trying to toenail it to the deck. Much easier and stronger.

Amazing how hard you guys work but trust me it pays off in the end and way less stress than having to deal with building crew who shows up whenever and have every excuse imaginable.. Speaking from experience and wish we were able to do a lot of the work ourselves. KUDOS again to you both.

Rushing Wind Mountain -Yes, This house build may progress just as fast as a work crew that isn't able to stay on the job, for whatever reason. Our farm cottage was built in 2016. It was a simple modular that came in two halves. You would think that is a piece of cake... Well, we experienced every MURPHY'S LAW situation you can imagine! Our woodland property house site sits on a fairly steep hill in central NH. We have only one way in, that has a brook with a bridge. The original crane company canceled last minute, stating they wanted our small rural town hall to insure their crane if it fell into the brook! We scrambled to find a smaller crane who would cross the bridge. Found a guy in VT, who had no problem. Then the carpenter crew had issues. They were only a few guys and had multiple reasons they could not show up. Then our house halves got separated after leaving the PA manufacturer. One half ended up stuck in VT because it was not allowed to travel over wet/rainy roads. We hired another private trucker to rescue us! He managed to park one half on the main farm and stay with the 2nd half in VT. And so adventures went on and on... The trucker needed a running start to get those halves up the steep driveway. I have to say both the crane operator and our long haul trucker were well past the age of retirement and they were an awesome pair for cowboys! They got the job figured out and done!

you might want to cut a number of braces the same length and mitred at a 45 deg angle both ends and then secure them to 2x4s screwed flat on the floor. gives you more holding power than just a bunch of screws or nails at the very corners of the braces. just trying to help you out.

First wall June 15, 1987. Dried in September 30, 1987. 3200 sq ft house on two levels. We DID have a grounds crew (small college campus) who came to help us stand up the big walls - 20' wide, 18' high, and 26' wide x 12' high. ALL with a framing hammer and nails, as we had no compressor. In fact, we did it all with a generator - line up the boards all marked and cut, start the generator, cut, and then nail together. Would not trade that time for ANYthing, but is WAS hard, Hard, HARD at times. Oh yeah....the 6"x16" roof beams were lifted into place with the college crane, too.... :-) It's SO nostalgic watching you do this -- our kids were right there with us, too - and we're enjoying it immensely. Thanks, also for your witness to what's important!

Just a suggestion: it’s customary to fasten the support braces at the floor by temporarily nailing a short piece of lumber (12-16”) flat on the floor and then nailing the support brace into the side of this short piece of lumber. It just gives you more nailing surface for the bottom of your support brace with more nails. Handy in a strong wind👍

Hey guys! In regards to the wall support 2x4's: You might consider first nailing a scrap to the floor, then nailing the wall support to the scrap for a stronger tie!

Yes, nail a short 2x4 flat on the floor deck and then nail the wall brace into the side of the 2x4. Doing this will make the bracing sturdier and less likely to move.

Came here to make the same comment but with a couple of changes. You might want to consider using longer 2x6's. Attach them closer to the top plate. A 45° angle would be optimal. Instead of nailing the 2x4 to the deck, try screwing it. It's much easier to make fine adjustments. Might also want to consider bracing every 10 ft in case the wind picks up really hard.

Guys, before you raise walls, toe nail the footers on their end into the deck along the length before you assemble the wall. Space it back roughly the width of the board from the edge... then, the wall will hinge on the nails as you lift it and it won't kick off the side. Check out Larry Hahn's videos on youtube, he is the OG framer!
