I agree with some caveats. While Catholics and Protestants share many views and share a common life as persecuted by mainstream Western culture, most Catholics I speak with still answer the question, "How can you be certain you will inherit the kingdom of God?" with some variation, "If I do good enough obeying God's commandments..." They are still very confused about the concepts of salvation by grace alone through faith. I try to gently and Biblically correct their thinking, and for those who listen it becomes an immense weight off their shoulders knowing that Jesus already took care of that on the cross, and if they believe it then they will surely inherit the kingdom. No need for penance, indulgences, purgatory, etc. . St. Paul is STILL rolling over in his grave for how people fall for that old schtick even though he debunked that time and again in every epistle he wrote, but in particular...the Book of ROMANS. One would think the Roman Catholic church would take a harder look at that.

In addition, it is okay to question the books that are in the Bible, as they were written by man and compiled by man. I grew up Seventh-day Adventist and I got this all the time. A few years ago my church hosted a SDA pastor to do a series of seminars to convert people, and he said that Constantine tried to infiltrate Christianity with paganism, which he accomplished not only by changing the Sabbath to Sunday but also by other means. This pastor said the statue of St. Peter at the Vatican was originally a statue of Jupiter and the statues of Mary and baby Jesus were originally statues of Semiramis and Tammuz, and that this proves that Catholicism ("the whore of Babylon") and all other Protestants ("her harlot daughters") are apostates and pagans. But even I know that's bunk, because Semiramis and Tammuz were Sumerian gods, not Greco-Roman.

You know... Someday I would like to be Pope. I think that a Lutheran Bishop of Rome would be great for the RCC. I mean they seem much more open to new theological perspectives nowadays than in the 1500's... Like athiesm for instance... Perhaps the Reformation isn't over? Perhaps Luther was right? Perhaps God hasn't abandoned His church? Perhaps salvation is by Grace through faith, and not of works? Truly... We Lutherans care far more about the pope than the Romans do... ;)

Just recently the pope cam to Canada to apologize for the way the Catholic church treated Indigenous children in residential, boarding, schools for many decades. The boarding schools were started to erase the Indigenous culture and traditions up hold by many Indigenous groups living in Canada. To do children were taken by force by government Indian agents and RCMP. The schools were run by various religious organizations one bein the Catholic church. In these schools abuse was rampant. After unmarked graves containing bodies were discovered last summer at a residential school site run by the Catholic Church, it became apparent that the pope had to apologize for what the Catholic church did to these children at these schools. So he came to Canada to apologize after a group of indigenous survivors and leaders went to Rome to meet with him. It was recorded by the press in Canada that pope was not in good health and had to travel around in a wheel chair. It was rumor the pope ight resign due to ill health. Just commenting this fact

@Philomaeus The Roman Catholic Church is a politico-theological institution founded by men. The pope is no more holy than any other believer, if Pope Francis is a believer (only God knows who does and doesn't believe, not me nor you). I'm just an ex-Catholic, now alive in the grace of Christ. If Catholics knew that they are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus alone (Eph 2:8-10), and not by their system of sacramental merit, they'd be offended, too...thus my comment. Mocking the RCC is no more blasphemous than making fun of POTUS is un-American.
