Yes, this was filmed at Pattycake Productions, the video production studio owned by Layne Stein and (former VP baritone) Tony Wakim. Geoff rents their studio for the majority of his videos, as they have all the equipment needed for a video production, and they have a huge amount of props and costume parts for Geoff to pick from if needed in addition to his own things. He also has Layne and Tony to help him build the set if need be, and can ask them for advice as both are extremely talented video producers and Tony also is a costumer. Eli often helps him with lighting if he needs dynamic lighting, but in this particular video he sorted that all out by himself since they were just stationary this time. And yes, this is an indoor set, so the "windows" are just windows in a set wall with lighting behind them. The throne was found by accident during another video shoot, and Geoff instantly saw the possibility for a music video since he has gotten requests for this song for a long time, and asked Layne to save that throne for him. Voiceplay also rents Pattycake Productions for a lot of their own videos, it is very convenient for them to have access to a professional studio where they have full control. I'm sure Geoff and Voiceplay are some of Pattycakes's best clients, as often as their studio gets used 😄

Game of Thrones is very much a fantasy story about court intrigue and various Houses positioning for power, and this song is associated with one of the powerful Houses in Westeros, House Lannister. It tells the tale of House Reyne (their sigil a Red Lion), who rebelled against the Lannisters (their sigil a Gold Lion- hence the line in the song about 'a cat of a different coat'). In response the Lannisters destroyed them utterly, and and the song "The Rains of Castamere" was afterwards used as propaganda of sorts; a song played to demonstrate the might of House Lannister, and to strike fear into their enemies.

He starts off on an A1 chest, and the lowest note is a D1 sub. He’s gone lower (C1 in Way Down, B0 in Halo, for example) but this one is so robust it just feels SUPER low. Great reaction!!!

I loved this one. Just for a little FYI so you can see some of his more intricate choices in this video: this is the theme song for one of the main powerful families in game of thrones, so the the throne switching is definitely a metaphor for power play. He's playing four different characters, all related but all very different - their symbol is the lion, ergo the cat motifs in the song. And they're all blonde ergo why Geoff's hair comes off a little lighter in this video.The only missing member of the family that's a main character is the Queen - logically. 'Main' Geoff is her father, Tywin Lannister, far left and far right (armor and leather) are the two sons, and the one with the red silk is the grandson, the prince The one in leather is missing his right hand, so you can even see Geoff try not to move that hand 😂

“I don’t know where this location is”, lol. It is an empty store space in a big mall ! In the behind-the-scenes for Running Up That Hill, Cesar went in the wrong mall door and had to hike all around the mall to find out how to get into the new space. For Good 4 U, they wheeled all of their paraphernalia through the middle of the mall and get into the storefront from that direction. I have not seen Game of Thrones either, but from the looks that the standing Geoffs sometimes give the sitting Geoff, I think there’s a whole lot of threat, menace and plotting going on.

Thank you so much for another great reaction. I heard Kathy painted the banners. Eli sure knows what he's doing with the lighting. It may be the same background setting but Eli makes it look different with his lighting technique every time.

He's in Dm I believe, and gets down to a D1 subharmonic a couple of times. Geoff is so good at the video editing now. He's been doing it a long time now of course. He has been down to a B0 (in Halo) but the way he carries it here so strongly and smoothly is remarkable.

Great reaction, it is so much fun to watch your face as you listen!! I have no clue about Game of Thrones and don't care. It's Geoff! The music track includes the lighting, so however many takes he does, the lighting is always the same at that point in the music. Voiceplay will be releasing another one in a few days. Totally different genre, you'll love it. Trust me!

Please please do a reaction video of Voice Plays cover song Dream On by Aerosmith. Voice Plays version is out of this world. The high note at the end is sung by Cesar ( little guy with big hair ). He asked if he could be the one to do it & they said yes. Also Voice Plays cover of We Don't Talk About Bruno. At the end Cesar is the one that hits the high note just before Ashley does.

Pattycake Production recently moved to new settings. They share some storage area with others and just found this chair in the storage! Of course they had to make good use of it. Geoff and his wife Kathy made all the work themselves. Kathy is production manager at PattyCake. She's responsible for the wardrobe. Think the lighting is the work of Eli, he usually is responsible for all VP lighting.The middle part of the music, the chorus with only vowels is all Geoffs adding to the original, which is shorter. He is dressed as 4 different characters of the House of Lannister, responsible for wiping out rivaling House of Reynes, living at Castemere. There was another clan opposing the Lannisters, but in stead of fighting them, the patriarch on the throne sent around a visiting bard that sung this song of the fate of the people of Castlemere. No more opposition. I have never seen the show either, but learnt from others in the commentfields. Here Geoff seldom gets above A1, except for the harmonies of course. D1 subharmonics in the middle and at the end.

Thx for all the info, Carina! Really appreciate it! And yeah, if a chair like that is just sitting there, not being used, it would be a waste. Yeah, you do really notice that there is some actual decent production on the videos!

OK, Peter Barber talks about some of the instrumentals in this being MIDI, and I think he’s right, especially in the section where he’s talking about it, but it sure sounds like a real violin or maybe cello in several other spots, esp the music for the credits. Does anybody know? Whatever it is, Geoff is playing because he doesn’t credit anyone else.

I found this song quite underwhelming which is probably why I didn't remember it. Geoffs darker more menacing take on this gave me chills, love it! Your reactions are always such fun, thank you! 🙂👍

Regarding the lighting, you may well be right. If it is the outdoors, it almost certainly has a tint film on it. That's common for that situation to prevent the bright sunlight from blowing out the scene lighting. The Iron Throne replica was borrowed for this video. The price to purchase a replica like that goes anywhere from $4000-$30000. Kind of pricey for what I assume is a rather uncomfortable chair to sit in for long.

Sometimes he hits the same notes, but his technique is entirely different so it sounds like a different note....... this is all in chest, and incredibly resonant and dark.
@YBPlaysMusic2 жыл бұрын
Hi Aurora, indeed, using different techniques can give a totally different sound and feel, even if it's the same picth. Though, those 2 really low ones in this video do really sound like subharmonics to me, it would really surprise me if that is chest. Thx!
@huldradraco2 жыл бұрын
@@YBPlaysMusic you are correct, the two low D1's are subharmonics. the rest is chest and falsetto.
@Aurora-cv5to2 жыл бұрын
@@YBPlaysMusic I honestly can't say, I don't have the ear to consistently deconstruct which it is. The voice reviewers so far, though, seem to agree that it's chest. The notes themselves don't seem to be exceptional for Geoff. What stands out to me is the different way he handles the notes..... When he does subharmonics I'm not used to hearing this level of resonance. These notes are very rich and dark...
