*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article kzbin.infoUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

My wife was diagnosed today with Gestational Diabetes so here I am... the worried husband doing all the research I can to try and manage it. This is our first child and this I admit is a little scary and heartbreaking because now my wife is considered a high risk pregnancy and she can no longer do the water birth :(
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV5 жыл бұрын
Captain Cartman I’m sorry you are feeling so stressed about your wife’s diagnoses. It can feel like a lot at first and very scary. However, you can still have a healthy baby and delivery. Some care providers prefer not to do a home birth, but there are some who will still allow it (if everything is managed well and medication is not required). The risk really comes from GD undiagnosed or left untreated and there is lots you can do to keep baby healthy. Feel free to reach out with questions. You and your wife can figure this out!

I appreciate this video, some great ideas for meals here. I do find it a little unhelpful though to focus on staying off insulin - insulin is very safe and is shown to improve outcomes compared to using diet alone. I'm currently in my second pregnancy with gestational diabetes and have been on insulin both times. The first time I really wanted to stay off insulin so I was starting to reduce carbs a bit too much and increasingly cut out carb sources that I was reacting to, but when I was finally put on insulin it was just such a relief. It really reduced the stress associated with mealtimes, and helped me keep my sugars down without needed to go super low carb so l can make sure my baby is getting enough energy and nutrients from a more varied diet. This time I was happy to have the insulin right away.

I am so glad to read your comment, because you just voiced my own concerns. I am 33w pregnant, with GD diagnosed in week 27 and I see that it becomes more and more difficult for me to keep my sugar level below the limit. I started to cut the carbs so much that I am hungry and afraid that I am harming my baby. I am planning to ask for insulin too, because I still have few weeks ahead of me where the highest insuline resistance occurs and I just can't continue on cutting on the carbs. I am scared of insulin but I am even more scared of doing harm to my baby girl, so your comment is really lifting my spirit. Thank you Heather :*

Insulin is not approved by ACOG for a reason. Some studies show an increase in birth defects so it should try to be avoided if one can control their blood sugar by diet and exercise.
@heatherbaldwin20992 жыл бұрын
@@vchafab From the ACOG's GDM page (answer to the FAQ on medication): "For some women, medications may be needed to manage GD. Insulin is the recommended medication during pregnancy to help women control their blood sugar. Insulin does not cross the placenta, so it doesn’t affect the fetus. Your ob-gyn should teach you how to give yourself insulin shots with a small needle. In some cases, your ob-gyn may prescribe a different medication to take by mouth."

Don't count carbs, you don't need to. Just eliminate high carb foods from your way of eating. Avoid potatoes, rice, wheat, bread, pizza, pasta, sugar etc. Nautical anything white or brown. Then just eat the veggies you like that are colored; red, green, orange etc. That makes is super easy, no counting necessary.

Also...why are we avoiding beef and pork? These are traditional foods that humans have been eating for a long time. These nutrient dense animal foods are essential and it's easier to find pasture raised grass fed options.
@prettyprincess64153 жыл бұрын
Most people with diabetes have other illnesses or history where they can’t eat that. I have gestational diabetes and I can’t eat pork. Not to mention pork is disgusting. Also I have pcos so pork raises blood pressure or cholesterol. Fish and chicken has better fats and omegas for your baby.
@GazeboDweeb3 жыл бұрын
@@prettyprincess6415 what you're saying is false and a really dangerous narrative. The fats in ALL animal foods are good for us. Pork DOES NOT raise blood pressure or cholesterol, neither does any other animal food. You obviously don't have a knowledge base of how the body functions, the cholesterol you eat has very little to do with your actual cholesterol levels, and there's nothing wrong with having high cholesterol. And pork 🐖 is DELICIOUS! Especially when you get it from a local farmer who let's them forage for their food.

@ibkristykat5 жыл бұрын
no i'm not comfortable counting carbs. matter of fact i suck at counting EVERYTHING. i eat when i'm hungry and avoid stuff that makes me feel disgusting. that's about it. i balance my foods every day and try not to overdo 1 type of food. i drink MAYBE 1 pop 3 days out of the week, and maybe 1 glass of juice 1 day out of the week.... yet i still just got diagnosed with GD. :/ i eat out ONCE a week, trying to keep eating out to only TWICE a MONTH, yet still got GD. :/ My weight gain is on track and so is baby's growth, yet... here we are. I don't get it. The diabetes wasn't enough thus far to leak over into my urine --- the glucose has been at 0 as well as the ketotones, which i was told by a nurse i work with would be high if i had GD >> sooo I don't know what's going on for me to "have GD". hopefully recipes like yours, Jess, will help me eek through the last couple months of pregnancy if the Docs are right, which I think they are erroneous IMO, but whatever LOL i've never been one for "dieting". I don't "Diet". i CHANGED my diet entirely about 8-9 years ago, and eat intuitively mostly, balancing out types of foods & just not overdoing anything, never overindulging. over-eating 1 type of food makes me backslide BADLY, so "dieting" & "restricting" doesn't work for me. it makes my cravings worse. Worst of all, most of the foods on healthy lists are expensive - peanuts alone are too expensive much less healthy nuts. We have a budget of $90 and below on our grocery bill, which i try to stretch as much as possible, so always staying away from processed boxed pasta meals or what have you isn't always easy. other than that, i'm not ALWAYS eating pasta, and barely ever eat bread. i don't get a whole lot of veggies unless they are canned, same with fruit, because to have those on hand don't always work out--- until now. Pregnant with my 2nd, I am CRAVING salads, but buying all the salad fixin's is expensive too, you'd be surprised how it adds up. so i don't do it every week. i just BALANCE. I've been taking FISH OIL as opposed to eating fish since so many fishes have mercury levels i'd rather just AVOID than worry. and i take my prenatal. i have NO other health problems, no problems with my BP and no other meds i'm on. anywho, i'm probably pre-diabetic/borderline more than anything, but i go to my 'education class' on monday & the OB on thurs after 3 days of testing my blood 4x a day.. so this should be interesting. i half feel like they are just trying to swindle me out of my money, i'm *that* borderline. my first glucose test, the Dr in the group i'd gone to, said it was okay to eat before taking it... WRONG. but still, 131 when the healthy range ENDS at 130 (literally) isn't bad for having eating at 5:30 am, drink that drink at 8:30 and get blood drawn at 9:30 - now is it? LOL Then my 3 hour test failed at hour 2 and 3 --- at hour 2 it was *1* point (only 1 point) above the healthy range, and hour 3 it was 5 points over the healthy range. Still--- not too bad considering. That test, i indeed fasted & did as told. I'm a stickler like that. Yet here I am with GD. i don't get it, but whatever. PS my first son -- -i had NO GD, my wt was on track as was his growth, and he weight 5 lb 1 oz at 41 weeks gestation and needed inducing. had a C-Section due to "not progressing" (was only 2 cm for 24 hours or more). he was looking to the side, too - which doesn't help. and my pelvis was too small. so i'm getting a c-section THIS time as well simply b/c my pelvis is too small. in any case, i have a feeling this baby will be under or at healthy weight no matter what, because i don't overdo stuff and DO eat balanced already, as much as possible anyhow, seeing as how with my son i ate out 2 out of 3 meals, drank 1-2 pops a day EVERY day, and DIDN'T get GD (I had him at age 33 and i'm 37 now). So the ONLY risk factors I SEE, are i was slightly over weight at pregnancy's start & i'm 37. otherwise, everything i've done this time is healthier than with my son (who isn't overweight, is short & skinny, & has a good appetite but doesn't overeat & we don't even ALLOW lots of carbs if we can keep from it, candy, not too many fats at all, and NO soda and NO juice. he doesn't even get juice boxes. he only drinks water & milk (which i do too when i'm home).

ibkristykat I’m sorry you got diagnosed with GD and are feeling so stressed about it. It’s not your fault. It sounds like you have already made lots of lifestyle changes and kept up with them for years (amazing job!) I know you would rather not have the diagnoses, but it is positive you are only 1 point over. It’s not about the diagnosis, but about a healthy baby and safe delivery! If you get diagnosed, they will just monitor you to make sure your blood sugars stay good and keep your baby healthy. A diagnosis doesn’t mean that your baby won’t be safe...it’s only unsafe if left unmonitored/untreated. The risk to the baby goes up the higher blood sugars go up. It’s a spectrum, but they have to make a cutoff for diagnoses somewhere to monitor. Feel free to reach out in our Facebook group if you have questions. Your baby is going to be perfect! You can do this!

@@PregnancyandPostpartumTV Yeah, I know. I get that it's a precaution, but there's so much info out there and some of it conflicting sometimes. So I'll go the 3 hour class they are sending me to, and see what they have to say about what foods to eat (some people/sites say spinach isn't a good leafy green and bananas are terrible too, but there are meal plans with both. idk what to believe lol)... but yeah it's not a fun diagnoses cuz you're already stressed about everything else under the sun.
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV5 жыл бұрын
ibkristykat lol... yes you have to take everything with a grain of salt and common sense. Spinach or bananas in moderation are good (they are both plants) but excessive spinach, because of the oxalates, could cause kidney stones and bananas are higher glycemic index (and white in colour so without cancer-fighting phytochemicals like the coloured fruit and veggies). I hope you find it helpful and not conflicting! Try not to stress (that can send your sugars up too)

These are almost ketogenic diet. Is there how much carbs needed for pregnant women of certain height or weight during gestational diabetes
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV5 жыл бұрын
Mona Lisa I kindly disagree. The ketogenic diet is around 20 g carbs (much lower than 90-150 / day). The current guidelines for pregnancy is 175 g / day, however, the guideline is currently being reviewed and not based on evidenced-based research. I have recommended 90-150 g per day based on the latest clinical research along with my colleague, Lily Nichols. If you would like to review the latest research, Lily reviews it in her book, Real Food For Gestational Diabetes.

You can do it! I don’t know if you are still pregnant but I can share some recipes with you. Taco salad Ground beef with taco seasoning (Seasoning contains carbohydrates but it’s not too terrible) I used 2 taco shells out of a box and baked them. Crushed the taco shells and added ground beef on top as well as lettuce, onion, tomato, sour cream, cheese, jalapeños if I had them, I also topped it with Taco Bell mild sauce, and you can add pretty much whatever else you want besides beans. Beans are pretty high in carbs and with a plate full of this taco salad you will get enough carbs from the shell and veggies. I also made stir fry Chicken, rice, whatever veggies you want to add, stir fry sauce (has some carbs), soy sauce. I usually added broccoli, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, sweet peppers. I cooked the broccoli and Brussels sprouts very well and cut them into smaller pieces because I like them a little brown. I also cooked the peppers very well but I did not brown them. You can add some rice which also has carbs. I measured a 1/2 cup and fried it in some olive oil. Cooking the rice and refrigerating it the day before is best to fry it. Fry the rice in the pan with the veggies. I always cooked the chicken in a separate pan and then added it in. It made a ton of food and we would split it and have leftovers. I just mixed everything I made together. Then added 2 eggs in the center and cooked them and mixed. I could eat an entire plate and still get awesome numbers. I just added less rice on my plate and kind of dug more veggies out.

Anything to help! I know how frustrating it can be to think you only have a couple options to eat. I just got diagnosed for the second time (daughter this time) and I feel much better this time around than I did with my son. I was a wreck with him and didn’t know what to eat. Now I know what to avoid and I’m much less stressed this time. I just like to look for new recipes I haven’t tried yet. 😅

@@leaelizabeth23 I love your outlook. I agree it's so much less stressful when you know what to do and then you can just move forward with your plan and having a healthy baby :) I'm working on a collab with my friend who is a chef so keep your eye out for some yummy GD recipes coming up.

Hi. I have GD. Can i have gram flour in my diet?
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV5 жыл бұрын
Nasreen Kousar Hi Nasreen! I would say it’s OK, but in moderation. Each tablespoon has 4.2 gram carbs so you’ll want to watch your portion size.

Hi Vanessa Mohamed. I would recommend seeing your doctor or diabetes health care provider if your sugars are high. Do you have someone to see? You can grab the meal plan in the mean time. www.fitaftergd.com/meal-plan You can also join the FB group and ask more questions in there. facebook.com/groups/2097872227176950/?ref=share

my mom has this but her baby stop growing, is this going to help the baby grow
@PregnancyandPostpartumTV5 жыл бұрын
okusan Turcios Hi, gestational diabetes may causes macrosomia (big babies) so I don’t think that the baby stoping growing would be from gestational diabetes. Eating a healthy meal plan and good blood sugars will help the baby grow at a healthy size. If she’s concerned about baby’s growth she should see her doctor. Sending prayers and positive thoughts to you your family.

@@Teacupgirly I love this response, I eat very healthily and wasn’t interested in eating junk food, sweets etc, I exercised a lot, didn’t drink sweet drinks and I’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes 2 days ago. I’m devastated and have been blaming myself like crazy as all my efforts to keep us healthy have clearly failed. 2 weeks ago I went to hospital with low glucose levels, then they jumped up on the test.

A lot of "healthy foods" are not good for diabetics because we have different insulin issues. Check out these articles on www.healthyinfo.buzz it helped me alot. Hope this helps someone

Issella Morgan Thanks for the valuable feedback. You can always skip the video explanation and just follow the meal plan. I agree simple (and more entertaining) is always better 🙌

@Issella Morgan - Oh here you are again 😫👎grumbling on another video and writing negative reviews. 🤦🏽♂️What’s new?! You obviously don’t like or understand basic math and spelling. Don’t need to put down doctors, nutritionists, and educators just because you can’t comprehend much. 🥴 Have you ever written something 👍positive online? Maybe you should change your name to “😈Cruella de Vil” instead of “Issella” since you basically act like her. 😂
