I just earned this one. Not an avid fan of battleships but this thing put a smile on my face. Ciliax build with Hipper. Very satisfying to turn, torp and absolutely destroy anything that comes close. Very ‘tanky’. I came to a stop within 2-3 km of a Warspite and a Ismail. They both stopped broadside to me to stay out of the torp angle and we all traded fire and I eventually wore em out with my main guns. With 5 heals its a joy.

I never play ranged with gneisinau, I always just charge. I am always the first to die but I usually die with 2-3 kills and 90-100k damage

Those secondaries are monster with 2 to 3 of scharnhorst class ships close to each other no destroyer will even come close to you and if they do they get ripped apart.

@@TbullGamingHave had the Bismarck for a while now and like you got Hipper commanding all my German battleships....some gamers have said the citadels on Bismarck and Tirpitz are sensitive to getting hit but WoW will correct this in the next patch....wonder if you've heard anything?

What happened when they were balancing this ship? I average about 1 hit per salvo when firing at cruisers and I just pray to god it's not an overpen. Haven't played too many games with her but I can already tell she's going to be a grind.

Spec it for secondaries and get nose in with battleships and it’s really not bad, also when you face a ship 1 v 1 your torps give you a chance to delete them instantly, it’s fun as hell once you get used to it

@@admiralkipper4540 I will never use a secondary build. Yea the fireworks look cool and all but they do practically no damage, especially to BBs. They may start a fire here and there but other than that they are worthless lol Gneisenau can definitely have some good games but she's just way too dependent on RNG. Her great armor and torps don't make up for her 6 guns of RNG. When I'm in another ship and I see a Gneisenau, unless they are within 6km(torp range) they are a very low threat, even when in a cruiser.

Ryan Laprade well if you get a good secondary build going the g wagon and the Bismarck actually have some mean secondaries that do actually causes significant damage to cruisers and destroyers with he shells, which is there primary purpose, though the viability of a secondary build depends entirely on the ship

@@admiralkipper4540 I believe you and ofcourse there's no right or wrong answer. The main guns are my focus, they do the vast majority of my total damage. If secondary guns were the focus then they wouldn't be called secondary guns, they would be called primary guns😂😁 I'm not against using Ciliax's Porcupine skill but when it comes to inspirations it's a waste to use von Hipper over other inspirations. I go full dispersion, and a lv16/2 von Hipper increases my secondary range by 13.5% which is plenty good enough. Tbull has made a few videos on the topic and Spartan has spoken about it too. They too feel that full secondary builds are a waste. That's why they are called secondary guns and not primary guns lol I always advise to newer players(not saying you're new) to avoid full secondary builds but if it works for you and you have fun then who am I to tell you otherwise😉

Use Ciliax with the porcupine perk with Von Hipper as inspiration with Bismarck and upgrade its secondaries and it can go beyond 10 kilometers.

True. Land two or three main gun shells that would have missed without an accuracy build and you've already more than made up that damage

@@TbullGaming There's a guy by the name TobyNightwolf who haves a Bismarck secondary build with Ciliax using Hipper and Lee as inspiration and its called Bismarck Madness. Go check it out plus he give it a well deserving soundtrack to match.

They both work well - if you mostly keep it on the move then steering gears works better. If you park a lot then the prop mod would perform better

@@TbullGaming Thanks, I are more of an on the move type, but I have been experimenting with using cover more, so I tried prop, but I didnt think its was actually a huge diff, so went to my usual Steering mod.

Easier to get through Gneis or KGV? I bought KGV instead of Gneis because vanguard looked really good in your last video but man KGV is rough so far. I have a hipper and a nearly maxed Cunningham

I used lvl 10 Cunny with Madden and basically I won almost every game in this ship on my way to T7. Just spam HE this ship is so OP.

KGV doesn't really play like any other ship in the game, so it takes some getting used to. I do have a video I made when grinding it with some tips for that one that might help

tbull, what are your thoughts on the french dispersion commander, his base trait is more pen, is that something that every battleship should have?

It's a very strong contender. For French and German BBs I think it's very valuable, but it could be great on all lines. Tough to say how it performs until I'm able to test it, but on paper it is very intriguing

I'm Cilliax for all BB's except this one. Only 6 gunz, and twin turrets have worse dispersion values than triples. I have switched my German DD's to Von Sheer and am running them predominantly as torp boats. Only 11pt Captain, but the reload is game-breaking.

I'll have to try Spee out at some point. I think they run pretty well as hybrids leaning towards the gunboat end of the spectrum, but I've heard from you and others that the torp boat playstyle works well as well

Was it worth it to melt the game with a bayern just to take this? I mean it is really beautiful but it is slim as well which in my opinion it looks like a cruiser. Also i think that this is really fragile

It's certainly possible, and it's probably fun, but from a competitive standpoint I think von hipper is the far superior choice. I'll go over my thinking on that in depth during my upcoming Bismark review

If it's broadside AP into the upper half of the ship is the way to go. It has protective armor on its citadel which protects it at close and medium range

So far, after skipping purchase of Colorado for Gnaisenau, I'm really disappointed with it. Granted I have a Ciliax secondary build but I don't have Hipper but the inaccuracy is killing me, literally in game. And even at close to point blank range the guns let me down. Citadels are nearly impossible. I can be citadelled while bow tanking but shooting a point blank, broadside of a Vangaurd and could barely get pens let alone a citadel. I know they like to give different nations different ships characteristics but I'm pretty sure Ze Germans had fairly accurate guns for the time, ya know, precision German engineering. But the game has these ships as close range brawlers but even the main guns have been largely useless, not to mention at those ranges you're a torpedo magnet and the Gnaisenau isn't super responsive. Secondaries can be good IF you live long enough for them to rack up damage. But again, the torps with no Sonar. Yeah you have a short lived spotter plane if it isn't shot down immediately.

@@TbullGaming What's funny is I've gotten more if not all citadels on BB's at long range but its almost impossible to get hits. But at point blank, broadside, I'd be better off with HE. Though I do tend to aim near the waterline at close range. The way it brackets at long range I'd probably have better luck aiming high or low, at least some rounds may hit.

Dont have Cunningham. Running Scheer, Ciliax is only 10 point. Use Scheer for survivability buff as I'm constantly set on fire. Last night, got stuck in, set on fire, ok. 2nd fire set within a couple seconds, so DMG control and heal. Not 15 seconds after fire is out, 4 MORE FRICKING FIRES! I was literally spitting mad :(. Controller nearly went through the TV. Oh and I was bottom tier and ONLY BB on that side with a couple Cruisers against more than half the enemy team. At least 3 BB's, a DD that got behind us somehow and a couple Cruisers. Ive not been that mad at a game, well since the last time I played WoT. Or any time Ive played WoT in the last couple years. Oh and just played first game today. Gnaisenau, full broadside at a full broadside Colorado at 6.5km, ALL MISSED. Got two torps into him but almost no pens from guns. Though 76 secondary hits. Ate one torp from a chasing DD and Colorado killed me while he had a few hundred HP left.

I don’t have Von Hipper, and the problem there is simply not having an accuracy-taming captain available for a notoriously inaccurate ship line. This is an issue.

The ship is wrong. The real one has three turrents with three guns each just like the scharnhorst as it's her twin ship (or same class). I'm not sure why the devs did this but it's historically inaccurate

Carlos Avena It's not wrong. There were plans to change out the 283s on the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau to 380s during WWII but it never actually happened. They gave the 380s to the G-wagon in Legends to better differentiate it from the Scharnhorst. Kind of like a concept ship of sorts. It's basically a "what if" situation, because plans for the change were in place but never came to fruition. If they wouldn't have given the two ships different guns they'd be almost identical, so I'm okay with it.

@@hotboyz2853 i know about those plans but until it was almost blown up by the British on an Air Raid it always had 9 280 turrets like the Scharnhorst. The idea was to replace the guns while it was to be re-built but the project was cancelled. So i still believe the ship is wrong as it never had 6 380 turrets

You are aware that the Scharnhorst class was designed to have a main battery of the 15 inch guns in three twin turrets. The Germans were having some technical difficulties with the new turret and it would have delayed the two ships entering service for more than a year. It was decided to temporarily mount the 11 inch triple turrets as a stop gap armament just to get them into service and rearm them once the technical issues with the new 15 inch turret were solved. So in game the Gneisenau appears as she was designed.
