There was a lot of healthy competition among artists then. A pretty face or fashionable clothes just wasn't enough. You needed catchy songs and the ability to play it all live without the crutch of electronic trickery.

It wasn’t just Frankie Valli. The other important member was Bob Gaudio who wrote the song. They were the backbone in the band. When Gaudio retired from touring, then it became Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I think it was after 1970. You should react to Oh What A Night, Walk Like A Man, etc

No artist had more singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100 in the 1960s than Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Not Elvis. Not the Beatles. Not the Rolling Stones. Not the Beach Boys. Not any Motown act. No artist charted more singles in the '60s than Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Stone cold legends. And amazingly, Frankie still has that falsetto -- at least as recently as the last videos I've seen of him just a few years ago. That's one voice I would never have predicted would stand up to Father Time.

"Sherry" began my life-long love affair with the 4 Seasons that continues to this day. The track made number 8 in the UK charts in 1962 (I was 13 at the time) and for the princely sum of 1 shilling (5p nowadays) I bought the copy that had just been removed from the Juke Box in our local cafe - I still have it along with every other 4 seasons (and Frankie Valli) track released before and after. Truly one of the greatest vocal groups of all time, the life story of the group was made into a musical ("Jersey Boys") which met with huge success on the London stage. Thanks for this, for a couple of minutes I was 13 again!

Think it was couple years ago, my friend and I got in a heated battle. He tried convincing me that Adam Levine of Maroon 5 had a much better falsetto than Frankie. I had to finally prove Frankie was the superior by setting my phone to play Frankie singing Big Girls Don't Cry and his phone played Adam singing Moves Like Jagger. Frankie overpowered Adam convincingly. Quite an experiment.
