Great stuff! My TV licence expires later this month and I'm not intending to renew. My wife was the telly addict. and she passed last month. Had some previous experience with their goons, many years ago after I let the licence expire I had a visit. They insisted they had a right of entry so I let them in. They could see I had a TV but it was off. They asked me to turn it on so I said no, it does not work. They took me to court but having been told that I would see them there and was looking forward to it, no one showed up from the BBC - case dismissed.

I haven't had a t.v. in over 15 years and having moved about 5 or 6 times in the intervening years I have always updated their records by returning their ongoing letters . Moved late June in '20 and received the self-same standard letter . Now I post back without a stamp in a larger A4 envelope - just to make sure that they do not miss them . I received one today in a red envelope like a Christmas card threatening me with a search warrant,ha ha ha! I have lived in the same place for 26 years,and I haven't had a TV since 1986,it was showing crap then and I doubt if it's improved. I currently have about a dozen letters,or should I say fire lighters,with unfounded threats. I wish I could afford to sue them for harassment,I've signed countless declarations over the years but when they stopped giving me a pre paid envelope to do it I refused to spend a single penny declining their licence,no TV no need. Like you, I don't watch television, and I've told them two or three times, so if they want to go on wasting the BBC's money on postage charges (do they have to pay double when they receive a letter without a stamp?) that's up to the BBC. If they want to spend more money sending somebody to my front door, they're welcome, but I shan't let them in without a search warrant, even though, since I don't watch television, I've nothing to hide.

I'm old enough to previously qualify for a free TV licence. Normally due around January, I hadn't needed to pay for 3 years. When they reneged last July, it wasn't just the demand for payment that got up my nose - it was their expectation that a retired person living off a pension and some benefits could simply come up with 160 quid at a stroke. I certainly wasn't going to sign any open-ended direct debit that didn't display an amount - not on my limited income. I've ignored their letters since. Worse to come. Just before Xmas I heard from a neighbouring retired couple who had taken fright at the letters and paid the licence, even though their financial circumstances are worse than mine. How had they paid? By handing over best part of the Winter Heating Allowance they had just received!!! These BBC licence thugs must have no morals at all. If we had a government worth spit, they'd be made to crawl back under the rocks they came from.

I have a "friend" AKA The Occupier who got his first TV around 1975 he gave his parents address at purchase as they always had a TV licence. Apart from a short period when he was living in a married quarter in the RAF he's never had a TV licence or a visit he tells me. What he does have is a shredder by the front door in which all junk mail goes into. He tells me it's quite satisfying listening to the shredder grind up all the junk mail.

We have had at least three threat'o'grams from tv licensing over the past 6 weeks, each with a date of when they say a "enforcement officer" will be visiting my property to "inspect" whether or not we need to pay for a tv licence. The thing is we have phoned them and informed them that we don't need a tv licence and only watch Netflix and KZbin, but we still get these threats.

You are not obliged to buy anything at the door, be it a vacuum cleaner or a TV licence, just say no thanks and dismiss them, dont engage in any conversation at all. I just received a letter through my door stating that I had been visited. The strange thing was it wasn't through from the postman. It was in person and I was in. They made no attempt to knock on the door or ring the bell and just struggled to put the letter through the letter box. Weird. If they are going to the trouble of sending a person to deliver it they might as well scheduled an actual goon. Obviously, I just tore it up and threw it in the bin.

Cancelled my BBC licence eleven years ago as I no longer owned a tv set as it went bang so there is nothing that the Ministry Of Truth licence goons can do to make me buy one as no tv set equals no requirement for me to have a tv licence. I informed the Ministry Of Truth that I no longer needed a licence as I no longer had a tv set {Even when I had a tv set I rarely watched as it was all woke or just unwatchable crap or repeats} If by informing the Ministry Of Truth that you are legally licence free will stop the goons and threatograms it doesnt. It was less than six months before i started getting the goons and threatograms. The threatograms went in the recycle bin unopened and unread and the goons once identified were ignored and the door closed in their face. And dont say anything to a goon and deffo dont sign anything. If a goon asks you to sign anything it will almost certainly be a TVL 178 form which goons have been known to falsify to get a search warrent to meet their target, £20 commision for each licence sold on the doorstep or conviction for tv licence evasion. Dont WOIRA the BBC/TVL goons WOIRAs used to work Now goons either ignore the WOIRA or use the WOIRA as proof that they are dealing with a live address and so they can up their enforcement efforts. Another tacic that I have found effective when dealing with BBC/TVL goons is if you move is to "forget" to inform the Ministry Of Truth licencing of your new address which there is no legal requirement to do so. So to deal with a Ministry Of Truth licence goon just; #1 Identfy #2 Ignore once identified as a BBC/TVL licence goon #3 Say nowt #4 Sign nowt #5 Shut the door #4 Sign nowt is the most important as that TVL 178 form is what BBC/TVL will use in court to get a search warrnet.

I downloaded the cancellation form, filled it in, photographed it and sent it recorded delivery. They confirmed my right to cancel sent me a cheque for money owning and two weeks later sent me a threatening letter saying that I haven't responded and my case has now been passed to dept collection. To collect what? I don't use the tv because I refuse to pay Gary Linekers wage any longer. In the end I had to call them and go through the form again. When I said I'm holding a cheque from you guys for a refund so I know you've received my form they couldn't give me answer to why they took action and no apology either. They said they'd send me a confirmation letter....that was 3 weeks ago and still no letter. I don't expect to hear the last of this.

It's a common sales tactic called 'creating urgency'. As TV Licensing try to make people think they are doing wrong by not having a license, sending a letter with a date on will make some people nervous and make that date loom large until they crack and get a license. It's supposed to make you think you're on a time limit before you get 'caught'.

If someone has evidence of harassment from TV Licensing ( All the letters sent out ) and don't want any contact from TV Licensing ... Can a person contact the Police with their concerns and even show the Police medical evidence proving their health problems and valid reasons for not wanting correspondence with TV Licence ? . The reason I ask is because there are people who are genuinely unwell and they do not need the terrible pressure and threatening tactics of TV Licensing and shouldn't have to if they have health issues . TV Licensing don't give a toss about your well being and mine ... All they want is your money .

PLEASE contact your MP about the intimidating letters. I did so today and it triggered an immediate communication to the Dept for Culture, Media and Sport about the bullying and harassment by TV Licensing. They threatened to come today. Naturally they would have been ignored but no other entity would get away with this kind of tactic. Can you imagine the uproar if the Sun newspaper demanded access to check you weren't illegally getting hold of their papers then bombarding you with 20 letters a year

Because I ignored the letter (since I DO have a licence because I watch iplayer from time to time) they sent a threatening one to my elderly landlady! These people have no shame. Scared the hell out of her and I had to send her the proof I had a licence so she could forward it to them. I could handle them, but she was scared out of her mind. This is WRONG!

Legally, your garden isn't quite as private as you would like. You would need to take specific steps to stop people entering, and even then, your rights to remove them are quite limited. Unless committing a crime, any 'stranger' who is attacked by, or believes you are threatening them by saying that the dogs will attack, is quite within their rights to report it to the police. It's no different to any other kind of assault. I guess you wouldn't want your dogs destroyed?

I have never had a tv licence but a few years ago I bought a new tv and since then have had a ridiculous amount of these dated letters, yet not had a single visit, I made sure I was home on these dates because I am looking forward to telling them exactly what I think about their tactics and scaremongering, whoever knocks is going to wish he stayed in bed as I am sick to death of these threats, just who do they think they are... I am sure they must be breaking a law sending out threatening letters to people who have never asked for their service in the first place, it has got beyond a joke

Once when i received a letter telling me they would visit on a certain date i phoned them and pleaded that they sent someone round as more goon content was needed on social media, this was about 3 years ago....... and i`m still waiting.

@@malcolmmitchell6529 Yes we had many years like that, but my missus panicked after i replied to another letter when they asked for a reason why we never had a licence and i returned it stating " i cannot see the need for one, i find the tv works perfectly well without one so i cannot see that buying one would improve this" a few months later we got a visit but nobody was here, a neighbour told my wife they had come here, she panicked and bought a black and white licence.... well for a couple of years.

I got one of these letters 2 weeks ago, saying they are coming out tomorrow (January 14th). All it did was remind me to go on the TV licence website to do the "don't need a licence part". Ever since I've had catch up apps and in cinema movie apps on my Xbox, I've not watched live TV in over 7 years, and never paid for a licence either. I had one of those letters in early November with, I think, the exact same date as the letter you showed. The threatened date is actually in BIG RED PRINT on the outside of the envelope so that the postman (or anyone who handles the letter) can see that you are a suspected "criminal", which I suspect is a deliberate "shaming" tactic. Yes it seems daft that they would specify an exact date but thats just to get your attention and fear level up. When you read further the letter says the visit "could be on ANY DATE". In my case, and I am almost always at home, the visit never came - at least until Dec 18th when I left for another part of the country.

I have been (strangely I know) collecting my letters for a while and tbh there is a pattern. Every 4th or so looks like a bill, some look like post office notices, once a year they use a coloured envelope like a birthday card, every 3 or 4 will have 'inv + a number' to look like an invoice, a 'final notice' envelope, and regularly I get the 'will you be in...' envelope. I never open them, I file them. The chap visited me twice, on day 1 he started to write me up an application, I said I don't need a licence thanks, and shut the door. He came back the next day and I ignored him. That was 3 - 4 yrs ago. If you aren't watching live tv you have no reason to be alarmed. Ignore them.

Go ahead, see how you get on. You can't seriously believe you're the first to think of this? The reasons are manifold, but you won't get anywhere, no matter how hard you try. The wording of these letters will have been scrutinised by lawyers to make sure they comply with all the statutory requirements.

I had a tv licence for three or four years recently, and have cancelled it now; previously I had never owned a tv licence. If or when they visit, they will try and trick you into allowing them in, but if you even allow them to put their head through the door, that is taken as permission to enter, don't let them. Another thing, if they want to look through your window, I've had them ask, tell them no, they must have permission to do this, and you don't have to give them permission, don't even let them into your backyard, because that means you've given them permission to enter your property. Anything they ask for, even a glass of water, or to use your toilet, tell them no, it will be a trick of some kind.
