Bought my first bike about 5 years ago, a 2012 FXDC. Didn't know one model from the other and bought it from a fellow veteran with service related injuries. Had no idea what a gem I was purchasing. Love my scoot, powerful enough, light, nimble, customizable. Flat out swoon over the classic form it has. Can't imagine ever selling it. EDIT: Can't tell you how many times someone has walked up to my scoot "Black Beauty" and said "Damn, a Dyna. Had one a few years back. Wish I'd never had sold it." Honestly happens frequently.

Nice video ! 1985 and 1986 all original EVO 80000 miles FXR Motorcycles here. Wouldn't want to trade for any Dyna, with any motor in there. On curvy roads (now that's motorcycling !) no Dyna can keep up with my wife and me on our FXR's. Yes on the freeway they can, actually they'll fly by just like that, but than again; riding a freeway is boring as hell anyway, and if I'd like to go fast in a straight line, I'd probably get a BMW S 1000 RR doin' 310 Km/hr (193 mph), which I don't, again, since going straight is boring. Curves, switchbacks, more curves steep ride up, steep ride down, ah well you know it: like The world famous Stelvio Pass, now that's motorcycling ;-)

The FXRs can be a really nice bike especially if they are taken care of well (It can be hard to find this) and then as reliable as the Evo motor is, from the factory the power is lacking, but with the right upgrades you got a good bike. I like the Dynas too, been nice if they would have ran that Dyna Super Glide Sport longer with the factory blacked out motor and transmission. And like the Wide Glide for a more stretched out cruiser. Why Harley stopped making some of their best looking model bikes I don't know. I have said this before I think sadly Harleys glory days are over in terms of their best looking models, however just now getting the factory hp up where it should have been 25 to 30 years ago, and without having to be a 114 plus cubic inch motor. The Motor Company has been a little guilty IMO of what many people fall prey too how can we make the most money? So they kept the motors undertuned, which when yiure first starting out isnt a bad thing, but alot of guys are going to eventually want more power, so you have to put some decent money to get there.

I love my Fat Bob 103ho. After some tweeks here with some electronics and swapping out the stock cans for slipons that are half the weight, the holeshots are silly and the topend seems endless. It's easy to hit 100 plus in 85 mph hwy traffic. I think the key is lot's of F/A and that extra gear in the six speed. Puts you right where you want to be in traffic. And it is like riding a sportster. Cuts like a knife! The (only) thing lacking is the stock suspension. No adjustability, except for rear preload. But being stout from the factory they aren't horrible. But factory twin calipers in front really get you woed when you're rolling along. Mainly because of the lack of extra weight from all that luggage. My next addon is a warrior fairing to buffet some of that 80 mph head wind. No windshield of course. Love your channel. Merry Xmas!!

I am very lucky to own a 1989 FXRS Low Rider. H-D's looking for cheaper ways to do things is why they are making the junk they are today. The reason the Twin Cam engine exists is because it was cheaper to mass produce than the EVO, which was a much better engine. It allowed H-D to increase production numbers, while producing inferior bikes and charging more for them. H-D has been on a downhill slide for a long time, to the point where the new ones are pretty much total rubbish. H-D's increased production after the introduction of the Twin Cam wound up causing the market to become flooded with used bikes, and they depreciated rapidly. That's how I managed to get mine. That also affects new bikes, that don't hold their value nearly as well as the old (post AMF) bikes did. Poor quality, rapid depreciation, and super high prices on new bikes are what is going to put H-D out of business.

I replaced the rear shocks and front springs and added a mustang seat. It came with screaming eagle pipes Wow is it fun and sounds amazing!. Also all my friends ride Turing bikes but I see them loving the look and sound of my ride.

@@sharonparker4595for sure! I get lots of looks and plenty of power. It’s just new to me and I’ve never opened it up to see the tensioners. It’s cold enough, I might as well do it

Eh... your comment about the new softies... They're better right off the bat than the dyna, stock for stock. Once you lift the softie like we do to dynas, it's that much better again, from a performance perspective.

Wasn’t the Dyna frame changed in 06 also?
@RJSerp Жыл бұрын
Yes. The 2006-2017 Dyna frames are a bit longer. I'd like to see a video comparing the older and newer Dyna frames.

The Switchback was spoiled by the styling of the wheels. Interestingly, it could be said that the Switchback was the predecessor to the Sport Glide. And the styling of the Sport Glide wheels aren't everyone's cup of tea.

Why would you take the flex out of the frame if you want handling and leaning into turns, that IS your suspension leaned over. Your suspension only travels vertically, which means without flex you get no traction while riding leaned in. And if you still dont know how to prevent your bike from a speed wobble, then you probably just wana go slow, and the hell with handling. Hold her gently, but dont let her go... and she will never wobble on ya'. Been riding Buells with 2 isolators that join the upper/front meaning frame and forks, and lower/rear meaning HD V-twin and swingarm, without chicken strips on my tires for decades now.

Are you saying that FXR bikes had motor/transmission solid mounted to the frame just like softails ? My understanding was that the reason ( one of them) why FXR handled so great , was because of swing arm/frame design differences to a Dyna, but it still had rubber engine mounts ?! 🤔 P.S. Long live the Dyna 💪
@garryhorton91052 жыл бұрын
No he said the swingarm is rubber mounted to the transmission on a dyna.The engines are still rubber mounted albeit using a different rubber mounting setup.
@robertrodriguez24122 жыл бұрын
He said on a FXR the swingarm is solid mounted to the frame, which it’s not. The pivotshaft goes through the transmission & held by the pivot blocks, which have the “rubber doughnuts in them“ & one nut on each side of pivot shaft that are secured by the pivot blocks that are attached to each side of the frame with two bolts per pivot block. Just for info.

@@robertrodriguez2412 Yes you are right he did say the FXR is solid to the frame which as you said is incorrect so my apologies. However just after he said that he also mentioned the dynas swing arm is rubber mounted to the transmission which I’m pretty sure is correct. Some of the statements this guy makes are a bit off skew I think 🤔 later in the video he said the 2006 model dynas were carbureted but I thought they were injected from 06 onwards ? My bike is a 01 dyna wideglide I’ve owned since 2010 and I’ve personally put 200 000km on it In that time. I love dynas too❤️

@@garryhorton9105 Ya. Take what this guy says for what it's worth. There isn't a single power tain part mounted rigidly on an FXR. As the gentleman above explains.

It was Eric Buell who invented the FXR, he was way ahead with this construction and I clearly still remember how “real HD Bikers” in 1982…when it came with a 80” Shovel engine and 5 Speed Gearbox,.. was totally against it. “Horrible, sick looking and NOT a Harley !” …Just emphasizing how ridiculous conservative Harley Bikers are, I bet they said the same s… when the Knuckle and Panhead came out, right ? 😉😜

Sorry, the Dyna is no FXR, put 88,000 on my FXR, great handling ride. Sold my 2003 Dyna in 3000 miles. It was an I’ll handling pile. Nothing in the suspension will fix the wet noodle frame. Both of them were low riders.
