I too started my own business after 40 years of working for other people. At the age of 60, I risked everything and put my life savings into starting autodotbiography, an online system that makes it easy for anyone to create a beautifully written and lavishly illustrated book of their life story for their family. It is a joy and a privilege to run my business.

So true! I started my business last year at 41 and it's so difficult to find resources on other entrepreneurs who started at an older age group. It's true that starting a business at a young age is commendable and shows a degree of maturity which is why the 30 under 30 or 25 under 25 lists are so popular. But older entrepreneurs face their own challenges too, such as having a young family to support, older parents etc. Senior entrepreneurs face things like not being taken seriously, peer-pressure etc. Starting a business at whatever age has its unique challenges and that should not be forgotten.

Thank you for doing this talk. The thought of the approaching 50's, 60's, and 70's is terrifying to most of us. We are not just afraid of getting old, we are afraid of losing our jobs because we're old. Even though we are old, we're still going to need to be financially stable and sustain our own lives until we're gone. This gives hope.
@fixedops1237 жыл бұрын
I started sort of earlier than you, 60, and built two companies that now support us. Paul Tasner, if you see this put me on the list of your older entrepreneur network. Great Ted Talk.

Really inspiring! Our society is so youth-oriented that too many people don't even want to see or hear older people. They want to pretend they don't exist! We need to hear more from people at advanced ages. Maybe that will help our society be less afraid of aging!

Being an entrepreneur is not easy guys but don't be discouraged. Here's good points. 1. Solve a problem and offer a better solution. So dont think of an idea. Think of a problem to solve. This is very important. 2. When you have a solution to a problem be different meaning you can offer lower cost or offer be quality or better delivery times. Something differentiated. 3. If you don't have large reserves of money it will be hard to compete in mature markets. So better to create a product or service that is innovative. And enter a newer market that's growing. Example a.i, sustainable consumption these markets are growing fast so easier to open a company in this. So live in the future and build something you really want and it solves a problem. And have mindset and visualization where you want to be do this daily. I recommend reading 2 books. Think and grow rich. And 7 habits of successful people.

I really appreciate this Ted Talk video. I just turn 50 with work experience since I was 17 years old. I'm taking steps toward becoming a entrepreneur.
Who can give a thumbs down to this? I applaud this man for not giving up or resigning himself to simply retiring. Our seniors are an often untapped resource with such great potential. I also applaud this gentleman for acting on his concern for the environment by creating a green business to better our world. In fact I am so impressed I would like this gentleman to contact me to discuss the possibility of repeating his business model i.e.: franchising his business. In another part of the world. Please reply to this post and I will share my email address with you personally.

Inspiring. It's been tough getting motivated at my age. I have the hardest time with believing that people will believe in me and take me seriously - just because of my age. But I'm also having trouble looking to 20-somethings for entrepreneurial thoughts. One good idea I just got, though, was to write down at least ten ideas a day. I was able to come up with five in the space of five minutes. The 70% success rate is probably due to experience in the school of hard knocks. And also a lifetime of knowledge and discovery. He was an engineer, being walked out the door. I remember being an engineer, walked out the door. Being retired sucks. Especially when you know you have boundless energy, tons of ideas and an endless supply of knowledge and understanding about almost everything. This isn't to say that you know everything, but when I look around, I'm often surprised at how little people do know about the world. So, about those ideas..... And I have more of them.

I don't know if I've worded the sentence wrongly, so if it is, I apologise. There have been many people in the past that were as successful in their later age as Paul Tasner: Momofuku Ando, inventor of instant noodles; and of course Colonel Harlan Sanders. It's just that so much of the media are too focus on young prodigies and entrepreneur, that a lot of us who've worked hard are concerned whether we're too late at our age. Successful people like Paul Tasner has become a beacon of hope for us.

I keep watching these kinds of content to give me hope and motivation but something in me is scared of the outcome. I can't concentrate. I can't even decide what should I do today. I don't have a job maybe I never had a job cause I can't remember when was the last time I worked. it's just a combination of self-hatred and disappointment. I need to change and I absolutely want to change and believe me I am trying but I don't know what's gonna happen and this bothers me a lot. It makes me sad.
