I couldn’t agree more. My same story exactly. Constant pain on the right side and no diagnosis from multiple chiropractors, PA’s and even a PT. But doing these exercises along with a few others have completely changed my outlook. I am curious if you or others attribute the issue to the QL muscles?

I’m so glad you said it took you 6 months to a year to fully heal to keep it real for your viewers. A lot of videos are titled “heal your pain in minutes” or “instantly” which ultimately leads to disappointment because these things aren’t healed in an instant. Thank you, and I feel much better. I’ve had sciatica for a long time.

The moment I heard you say, "the body is meant to heal" I knew I was going to get out of my dilemma. I adopted that mentality. I did these stretches, sometimes twice a day when I'd arrive home from work. And suddenly the answer came to me in a "I've heard this somewhere" moment, my body wanted to be as it once was, it didn't like a 24/hr engaged core which I had believed would solve my back pain. It wanted to move naturally, bend naturally and heal. These movements along with others allowed me to no longer be in back pain, I was able to start weight training again, adopted a methodical mindset, and supplement flexibility and strength.

Your story and faith in the re-invention process is inspiring. This is my second major re-invention of my body/consciousness. I know it’s possible to come back better than ever, but boy when you’re are in the suffering part it is dark. I am just grateful for my love for BJJ. I became a yoga teacher for the same reason. In 2017 I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. Lower back pain and sciatica all the way down to the left side of my butt and leg. It lasted 12 months within 4 of which I couldn't left my bed. As a fitness professional at that time I thougth that was it. I never experienced real pain or limitations before that. It wad a health and career crisis. After reaching to other fitpros who experienced similar set back, Yoga and Pilates helped me go througth it and I've now shifted my fitness career toward yoga and mindfulness. It really made me more empathetic to others physical pain and limitations. Thank you for this great video.

I had similarly injured not precisely from BJJ but from several other factors working as a Contractor. Started in my right-hand side buttock, going to my entire hamstring and hamstring tendon behind my knee, and throwing my calf until my foot. Also... if you are flat feet MAKE sure to have a deep massage to the exterior side of your feet I found these movements in this video a long time ago on different channels - they also worked for me. I would suggest to anyone that is watching this video and reading this message - KZbin ALL possible ways of exercise, I noticed that any exercise you do won't have much effect until the 3rd day, so stick with it for at least a week 3x a day to see if that worked for you before jumping for a new stretch exercise. FYI! You MUST be persistent with the 3x day or more in exercise otherwise you won't see the improvement and just complain it's not working.

I knew there was something special about your videos and I think this is it. You understand the pain and have always offered really wonderful and safe variations to dangerous poses in a way that is descriptive and very easy to follow. I am a 6'6" guy who spent most of my life sitting, gaming, working, smoking, drinking, partying and not treating myself right. All of a sudden when I was 25 and in grad school I started having sciatic nerve pain, it got worse and worse. I tried epidural shots, physical therapy, standing desks, watching my posture, and it just got worse. After about 10 months it got to the point where I couldn't sleep more than 30 minutes a night without a high dose of painkillers and even then I would wake up in horrific pain several times a night. I was unable to walk, drive, or really do anything that wasn't lying down or standing still. I ended up getting surgery which was the best decision I ever made, but recovery was very tough and after about 5 months of no activity, I started to hike and that's what really got me on my journey to recovery. I tried yoga from time to time but it was terrifying because I felt that one wrong move would send me back to how I was and I often stayed away even though I had already mostly recovered thanks to hiking and stretches from physical therapy. It wasn't until I found your channel that I found instructors that made me feel confident. I did Embark then moved on to Ignite. I had to stop after 24 days (so close) because I had back pain, but like you said, when you experience something like this you understand your body more. It was just a muscle strain because on the rest days (wednesday/sat/sun) I would do long hikes instead of taking a break. Today, on my 28th birthday, I found this video since I wanted something more restful after doing your Yoga for Men series the last two days and this video made me so happy because it truly made me realize how far I've come. I can comfortably do all these stretches that I know would have been torture two years ago. They aren't just not painful, they actually feel GOOD! Thank you so much for this channel, it is my favorite of the ones I've tried and I've recommended it to everyone who will listen. Hiking and meditation are what did the heavy lifting early on, but yoga is what has been pushing me to the next level of wellness.

Hi, I have subscribed in this channel for quite a long time because I'm a yoga believer but I never watched a single video. I just subscribed because I knew that I would need this in the future. Until I had this severe lower back pain last night before going to bed. I had a really bad sleep coz of it. When I woke up today, I can't get up from bed. It was extremely painful when I tried to get up slowly by turning my body from side to side but I just can't. I called a help from my son to help me get up slowly but it took me 15mins to slowly managed to get up on both of my feet. However, when I tried to walk, right after my first step, I felt the extreme pain again. I was shouting to my son. I went back to stay in bed trying to stretch my lower back hoping the pain eases a bit. Then I went on to search yoga for lower back pain in KZbin and it was your video who appeared first that's why I was able to watch it. I followed your 3 exercises and it was really effective. The pain wasn't really gone yet but it was really helpful to ease the pain by 59% and I can be able to walk slowly doing some house chores. Thank you so much. I just want you to know that I'm one of your subscribers and helped me from my back pain problem. Looking forward to watch your old videos. ------Jo from the South of France

Thank you- I was doing yoga before I suffered a lower back injury a few months ago, and though I hurt and recovered from a similar injury about 12 years ago as a teen, I did not expect to feel so helpless going through this same kind of pain and mental fogginess again. I will be inserting these exercises into my recovery plan starting tomorrow and will give you feedback on how it progresses. 1 thing made me feel instantly hopeful- and that was you saying it took 6 months to 1 year before you were pain free. That is a reasonable timeline for the kind of pain described here, and everytime I research and see a concensus of 6-12weeks it makes my case feel abnormal. So thank you for that realistic hope. You are someone to admire- a good goal of how I want to look and feel and move coming out of my injury, and I will remember that.

@@daveb5047 Yes. As a matter of fact it has been. Maybe it's the amount of time that's passed. Maybe it's a combination of things, but I am nearing 6 months since my injury and have been doing these exercises in tandem with a healthy diet, other stretching and massage therapy and things are getting better week by week SLOWLY, but they are. I work a very physical job so I am very conscientious about how I move day to day. This helped me have hope for a longterm plan, and as I heal, my options keep opening up to me and I feel gratitude. Hi there. I've also had sciatica problems due to a bulged disk in my lower spine. The PT guys at my doctors office had me do a stretch which is like a really deep, bendy cobra pose. Whenever I do a deep back bend like that, it mechanically pushes the bulge back where it should be and takes pressure off the nerve. Really works to help the sciatica, but unfortunately, doesn't work permanently, so I have to keep doing it. Whenever I take a yoga class, I end up doing all the cobra poses the instructor calls for and adding a few more of my own. The best way I've found to get a really deep bend is to get on the adjustable back bench at the gym and do the bend there -- that way gravity is pulling my head down and deepening the bend. It looks like I'm molesting the machine, but I don't care cuz it feels so damn good on my back. My sense is there are different causes of sciatica and different stretches that work for you, depending on the cause. That's mine.

This is so encouraging. I just left a high-level of rock climbing after 8+ years and two pretty serious accidents in the middle of that career. I took a big fall and hurt my feet and hip alignment pretty badly. 4 months later, someone fell on me from about 16 feet and hurt my upper back shoulders and hips all in one go - and I was bending over moving something when they hit me , so everything was affected. I was surprisingly functional after only several weeks after the second accident, in that I could walk around and move but I couldn’t raise my arms or move my neck. After the first year of pretty intensive physical therapy, I was told to come back as needed and to religiously practice my exercises to become strong and mobile. I had a couple months of climbing in me and was commissioned to go get stronger every day and just become mobile and functional and to hopefully overcome the long term affects of the injury. The 2 1/2 years of lifting and climbing that followed were just filled with injury after injury, in new areas in my body that weren’t previously injured from the first two accidents. I was employed in climbing industry, but for other reasons I left my job and hung up the hat climbing at the same time. The last six months without climbing have been so painful. All of the sudden all of the tension holding my body together has been releasing and I am feeling how deeply injured I am from the accidents and continued abuse of my body. Your story has been one of the most encouraging and inspiring resources I have found online. In many ways I am still fit and seemingly athletic and underneath I know that I have deep hurt and so much work to do before my body is free of pain again. I’ve just been telling myself that the work is possible and that the work will be worth it and that I will age in grace and strength because I took care of my body while I still could. Thank you for sharing your story, it really was relieving to hear someone else echo the the fear and the pain and to know what it feels like to be and to be seen as athletic and also know that you are integrally compromised by previous chronic injury. This was encouraging, and if your level of fitness and body awareness are possible, I know that proceeding towards greater strength and working towards health in my body are also mutually possible.

Everyone’s experience with back pain is different but if you have a bulging or herniated disc (surprisingly common) then these stretches can make things much worse. @bratSebastian
@bratSebastian Жыл бұрын
@@mayajackson3761 The rule of thumb here is if you're having a dead foot or at least feeling tingles there, every excercise is good for you if it helps moving that sensation up to your calf, then to a thigh, bum and preferably back to the spine which is called the 'centralization of the pain'. If it moves it down from your spine to your foot, it is bad for you and you should avoid it. As the opposite to those yoga stretches we've seen on this video is McKenzie Method and should work on most cases if the bulging or herniation is towards your stomach. Either way a properly directed decompression should bring some relief. Strengthening of your core and glutes muscles is crucial to keep your spine in safer position. Using a top bar to hang using your hands ,while your feet are resting on the ground with your core muscles relaxed shoud provide a lot of decompression. The position of the feet either more forward or backward should be applied using the rule mentioned above. Decompression with muscle relaxed is just a temporary though, so it should precede some other excercises requiring your core or glutes muscles to be used on already decompressed discs.

Funny, that's how I landed in yoga too. I was carrying a fish tank up some stairs and did exactly the same type of twisting motion at the top of the stairs and that landed me on the floor in pain where I remained motionless and in so much pain until a family member said "do this, do that" and such and I had nothing to lose so I did it. (I learned later tat these were lateral twists and stretching exercises for the back) Well, that same afternoon I was out shovelling snow!!! So, I approached my family member and said, what WAS that that you showed me earlier in the day. They said, aww, that's just yoga. The next day I signed up for yoga and have been doing yoga every single week ever since and two years after that I became an yoga instructor!! And now 5 years and 44 lbs lighter I feel at least 15 years younger!! So, I'm definitely a believer. Thank your for your very good video.

I have been following Your yoga routines and am excited to find this. I've had some bad sciatic pain I developed while training for a marathon. That second exercise kicked my butt. I will be revisiting this flow often. Many thanks and blessings to You, my friend!
