I'm a 70 year old female (yes, I've got the right website) and I've just completed my first plumbing job thanks to this great video which gave me the confidence to give it a try. Unfortunately I came across a problem which had not been covered...a heavily corroded metal clamp. I discovered that a coke and toothbrush would do the job....worked perfectly, had a can in the fridge but won't be able to clean my teeth tonight..yes..still got my own!....thanks again for the help.

Massive help. Plumber who installed the bathroom. Blamed the donut for the leakage. Changed it for a good one. Leakage is worse this time. got him back again. The ornamental pond emanating from the toilet is condensation according to him. So thank you, I'm sorting this out myself with the Bog Guru's guidence👍

Thank goodness for your videos!! Just replaced dual flush valve which was somewhat complicated by the person who fitted it had siliconed the cistern to the pan. I persevered and totally rogered a kitchen knife! and now have a toilet that is working properly for the first time since we moved here. I would never have had the confidence to tackle this without your advice....you are my hero!!!! Thank you.

Thank you for such a brilliant video! I had to change the insides of my parent's toilet system as it was constantly filling up, so brought a "complete flush kit" from B&Q for £16. I was dreading doing the job, but after watching this - I knew what to expect and how to handle it!

Good clear video fella. Problem here though. I can't get adequate access to my water connection on the tank due to a wall on the same side. The toilet drain goes sideways into this wall too, which doesn't help. It's impossible to get onto the connection with a regular spanner. Is there a tool that I could get that would be able to undo the connector from below (in the same way that you could turn a bolt with a socket on an arm)?

I have an Ideal Standard push button flush. THe small button has stopped working and the big button now needs a long hold to flush. I took the lid off an the "buttons" are working OK - pushing the smalll flush direct does nothing. Is this a common fault? Do I need to replace the unit, or is it fixable? Maybe something needs wiggling? I am guessing that as this video is about replacing a flush unit, it is something that needs replacing!

Hiya I do tons of DIY and have now watched quite a number of your videos. Thank you, they've been a big help. Just a quick question as I can't find it on your amazon link. What is the 'donut' that you do like please? I think I've a developing and failing syphon diaphragm as the cistern handle is sometimes 'weak' but the loo still flushes just fine. So have bought spare toilet cistern syphon diaphragm, but if I need to replace it, I'll still have to remove it all to fit them. Whilst I don't have any issue with the current one, but it's been there 12 yrs that I know of and moving it might see it break up! So having a new one in stock seems like a wise idea! But which one please!?

Great video but in my case, someone has put silicone or filler onto the screw heads that attach the cistern to the wall. As these screws have to be removed in order to get the cistern off the wall then I think I might not start the job in case I end up not being able to finish it. At least now what is involved and whether I should tackle it.

Just one point though, on your video at 3.24 you said that, in the package was 'another doughnut' which you don't tend to use. This was SO helpful, thank you. We put the blanking plug on the wrong way (had to buy a new cistern after we fitted the new flush valves as when we put the lid on the whole cistern cracked like a raw egg! Must have been a hairline crack as we were very careful)....so, new cistern arrived after 10 days ordering, fitted all the parts, leaking at blanking plug....duh - realise we have put blanking plug on the wrong way! Will now drain it again, turn water off, take cistern off wall and put blanking plug in the right way!! Rookie mistake?? :)

plumberparts erm...that part is now working perfectly. Unfortunately the gasket at the flush valve seal slipped - so a very small drip coming from left wing nut and back of cistern. Need to take it off again and make sure its staying in place when we tighten flush valve. (currently bandaged drip with a towel). Nearly there now. Have learned tons through our mistakes. We can see tiny, tiny air bubbles collecting around the rubber seal at the flush valve when looking inside). When we re-fit it, we will do water test (before replacing), checking for drips and look to see if any air bubbles inside). My mother (68 years old) and myself are feeling proud that we are doing this ourselves! (With the help pf your excellent video)!! Thank you :)

Great Video! I am an electrician, doing my BA Honors in Film and Documentary now, the final year. As an electrician for 35 years,, I had to be able to do bits of everything but cisterns were always a no-go area for me. Took on a project a few weeks ago for my brother doing up his bathroom, full works. I have a Wooden WC unit in order to hide the cistern completely. The toilet will be backed up against the unit so no pipes or wastes will be seen. I will be mounting the flush button on the wooden unit instead of the cistern. I am a bit nervous but hope it is the same thing, If any tips, tell me. Thank you.
