I already knew this technique, but I have to say that this is one of the most comprehensive and efficient ways of doing this trick that I’ve ever seen. Doing the steps in the order you have them is by far the most sensible and is guaranteed to eliminate the chance to over file the sidewalls or the underside of the nail by mistake like you might do if you start with filing underneath before shaping, like so many other nail techs do in their tutorial videos 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I like this a lot! Well done!

My mom had a finger injury when I was young. she has never been able to have decent nails done because her natural nail grows downward like that. In all my schooling and training I have never been able to fix it for her. This is amazing, I can’t wait to try this for her.

I’ve seen many professional corrections in this manner before. But I feel it wastes a lot of gel. Why do you prefer the correction to be done this way as opposed to shortening the nail short, placing a form in a straight position and building a new extension?
@NailsByKatieDutra3 жыл бұрын
Because for me it’s fast than pulling out a form and resculpting. If I only have one nail to correct this is easier for me. That is just my personal preference.

Hi Katie, thank you so much for an awesome video, very helpful!! On the other end of the nail curve spectrum... I have several clients with ski-jump nails or nails that curve up. Any tips on correcting that shape?
@NailsByKatieDutra3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For ski-jump nails, usually keeping it thin at the cuticle and the free edge is best, while building up the center to create a more appealing look. I usually say short nails are best for ski-jump.

I feel like if you filed the bottom bulk first working your way upwards you would use less product. Basically filing underside first so that when you put the gel on the remaining bulk, it will be a higher rather then building them higher while saving product.
@NailsByKatieDutra2 жыл бұрын
If you do it that way you will have a shorter nail and less of a perfect shape. Removing the curve first will shorten the nail quite a bit.

im not alone! wahoooo LOL I was thinking for the longest time that I was doing something wrong, it took me a while to realize my natural nail is why my nail was curving downward!! duhhh Does anyone know how to place tips on a curved nail? I use forms, but I would like to use tips on my own nails once in a while, however, if I glue them properly, they result in being curved...? any help
@cherileeslade-mills70903 жыл бұрын
Why wouldn’t you shorten by filing off all of the curve and then put a form under to make the length? Wouldn’t be so much product used.
@NailsByKatieDutra3 жыл бұрын
Like I said, there are two ways to do it, that would be the other way. ☺️ I find this way faster and easier especially if I’m wanting to correct a nail during a quick fill.
@d.on.in.a3 жыл бұрын
Great video, I just subscribed! I have a question, have your nails always been shaped like this?
@NailsByKatieDutra3 жыл бұрын

What about ski sloped nails?
@NailsByKatieDutra3 жыл бұрын
For ski sloped I usually recommend keeping them short, and make sure to build up a nice apex to give the illusion of a straight nail ☺️
@EveHyland-in8jb9ti9y3 жыл бұрын
Is the reason you have hooked nails because of the weight of the product on the end of your nail?
@NailsByKatieDutra3 жыл бұрын
No they grow naturally this way. Most natural nails don’t grow out nice and straight. ☺️ It’s common for natural nails to curve & twist the longer they get.
@nailsbynicky.oc123 Жыл бұрын
if the clients has that curl nails, why wouldn't we recommend them extension instead of rebalance their natural nails ? thank u very much
@NailsByKatieDutra Жыл бұрын
You can certainly do that! Just a matter of preference
@lynnwhitmire25443 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't it be easier to file the original hanging nail first before adding all that product? Seems like a waste of gel. Not trying to be negative, but I like to work smarter not harder.
@NailsByKatieDutra3 жыл бұрын
I like to work smarter too, to me this is easier. Like I said in the video you can do it the other way where you file off the nail and rebuild using a tip or form, however I prefer to not have to mess with a form if I don’t have to. It’s a matter of personal preference.
@IloveSituandbob2 жыл бұрын
There is more than one way to peel an apple. (while working smarter too)

Adding to my comment… you do fantastic work and your demeanor is perfect for teaching in addition to your calm voice. Some people try teaching their craft and end up concentrating on their performance and losing sight on what their intentions were for their video and the translation gets lost. 7 weeks grown out, wow. Why would anyone let it get like that. Seems like it would be hard to do much with nails like that.
@NailsByKatieDutra3 жыл бұрын
My clients come first, which means I don’t always have time to do my own nails. After a long day at work the last thing I want to do is stay late at night to do mine. There’s a saying that says.... if you walk into a salon to get your hair done, see the girl who doesn’t have her own hair done because you know she is the busiest. 😉
@minae75 Жыл бұрын
a really appreciable technique but, in my opinion shortening and reconstructing a hooked nail from scratch saves both time and product.
