Hi Mark! Just a new fan here who stumbled upon your videos a week or so ago. It's easy to see that you are an amazing teacher, so I bought your Mastering Manga book after watching a few of your videos on KZbin. It's a wonderful book and I'd like to thank you very much for all that you do. You've reignited something inside of me, and that's not something anyone can ever put a price on. Your passion shines through so much, and I love your little talks on these videos. Again, thank you! :)

Shota. Shojo. Shonen. I think I get it now.
@3Bixby10 жыл бұрын
Can you please tell me the difference between the three? I don't know~~
@pappybread10 жыл бұрын
3Bixby From what I understand, Shota is a boy drawn with feminine/adorable characteristics such as big eyes. Shojo is a pretty/handsome style, and the art style is usually used in romance manga for girls. Shonen is a more manly/handsome style, and is used in manga angled more towards boys. I hope this helped lol, I'm not very good at explaining things.
@KimonoSuki10 жыл бұрын

Drawing is like writing. Every writer/artist needs to find their own voice. Although these drawings are absolutely amazing, they don't have a voice. They are the people and the side lines, silently observing. Every popular manga, shounen or shojo alike, all have that special something that brings the art to life.

I was just about to leave to go out of town with my family (the car was packed and everything), and right as we did or final checks and was headed for the door the doorbell rang and the Mastering Manga book you made that I ordered from Barns & Noble showed up. I went out the door screaming "Thank you!" to the UPS driver. Two minutes later we were on the road for our 5 week vacation, me cradling the book. Man if that isn't epic I don't know what is. :D Love ya Mark

Wow, excellent job covering Shoujo art style. I read a TON of manga (currently reading about 30 weekly and monthly manga) and some of it is Shoujo, though I can only stomach so much, and you really hit up the major points. That hair style was so incredibly shoujo, an you are right about the lips, that isn't something I really noticed, but when you mentioned it, I realized that its true. Looking forward to the Shounen section, and hopefully girl versions as well.

i feel the need to clarify this a little: in manga there are are two main genres:shojo and shonen and both could refer to two different things-either the drawing style or the target readers of a specific manga. Both have many sub-genres: drama, horror, mistery, supernatural, bishonen/bishojo, harem, yaoi and the list could go on forever

Sometimes Hobby Lobby has prismacolors, so I'd check there if there is a store near you. If you can't find it, ask one of the workers there. If you can't find it at all, you might have to buy them on Amazon or find a local art store in your town. Small art stores sell them too. Mind you, prismacolors are VERY expensive since they're made for the professional end. My 72 prismacolor cost me $124.00 (I have no idea how much it costs now) and my 12 set Prisma markers cost $34.00.

I've noticed that it takes you a lot of work and time to make a single drawing and I wonder how many drawings does it take to make an anime chapter...how much time does it take to make one chapter??? It must be a gigantic work including the coloring of the drawings!!!

I really love your video's! It helps a lot to just sort of duplicate the things you make in tutorials, so later you can use that technique in your own drawings :). However what kind of guidelines do you recommend for making a general manga face, because I remember you had a video where you first made a circle and then drew the jaw :)?

I think hair is important because what I notice in shojo is that the hair looks more stringy or fall more into locks, meanwhile the shonen has more of a 2D type of design.

Hi Mark, your videos are very inspiring! I always enjoy watching them and learning from them. Drawing has always been a passion for me since I was little and I was wondering if you could do a video on consistency in style. I don't know why but I seem to struggle with that the most. One day I draw in a completely different style or it doesn't look the same from a profile or 3/4ths view. Maybe you could do a video kind of like different perspectives of the person or something and give pointers. Ty
