Thanks. I find it easier to remove the husks by keeping the sprouts in the jar, filling it with water, giving it a little swish around to encourage the husks in the bottom to release and float up, gently pressing the sprouts with a clean hand and isolating the floating husks and pouring them out. After doing that a few times, almost all husks are easily removed

Good job! A couple of things: It's better to lay the jars down horizontally and spread the seeds out so that light gets to all of them better. If you could find four-sided jars, that might help as well. Laying them down allows air to circulate through the jar better. When separating the hulls from the seeds, try this; It works great for broccoli seeds and works almost as well for alfalfa seeds: Using the container you have there, fill it at least half way with water and try to break any hulls still stuck to the sprout away with your fingers. Then swirl the seeds around in a counter-clockwise (or clockwise- it doesn't matter) motion for about 10 or 15 seconds, creating a strong whirlpool. Then set the bowl on the table and wait for the swirling to stop. What you wind up with is most of the seed hulls in the center of the bowl, and the sprouts around the outside. Then you can scoop the sprouts out slowly with your strainer or a strainer spoon, or, better yet use a straw to create suction and suck the hulls from the center. You could also siphon the hulls with a piece of sterilized clear tubing. Give it a try!

Quick question- aren't the hulls good for you? Do you *have* to remove them?
@alan301894 жыл бұрын
@@jennifer9047 I don't know the nutritional content of the hulls. Probably not as much as the sprouts, and they probably do not taste very good. They probably won't kill you, so if you like eating them, by all means, do.

@@jennifer9047 The hulls tend to go bad before the sprouts - moulding or I don't know. I've been sprouting for a year (and oh yes, I'm ready to flower :) and my experience is, that the hulls should go on day four-five. From that on I start eating of them. Day six or seven I would take the rest into the fridge to keep it fresh and not so developing as on the kitchen counter. The big thing with sprouting is to get the balance right between too wet - too dry. Taking the hulls away makes the "too wet" situation easier to control. Happy sprouting, people!

you can sprouted pretty much anything by rinsing, draining, rinsing, draining, then put the seed/bean in a glass pan spread fairly even, on a wet paper towel covered completely with a towel, the moisture will remain for days and u dont even have to rinse them daily just prevent bacteria from getting in by not opening the towel for a couple days

@TheCrunchyHousewife8 жыл бұрын
I would keep them in the fridge for 3-5 days and then compost any leftovers.
@cubul328 жыл бұрын
Urgent question: Do they have to be completely dry? Or slightly damp? I let them air dry for 8-12 h and some started to go quite dry and thin- to lose "power" from within. So I see that dry dry is not good either.

Thanks for the video but I'm still a little confused. On the first day you let them soak in water overnight, on the other days you rinsed them out but I'm still unclear if you still leave them in water over night and if so, do you repeat the process each night? Thanks

One thing I didn't see you do that others do is once you rinse the Alfalfa sprouts they turn the jar upside down at an angle to let excess water drain & air to flow into it.

I believe you should be tipping those jars in a 45° angle to make sure that the water drains out of the jar….. I don’t believe you should be letting them sit upright on the counter? I think that is a good way to introduce mold with them sitting in water

Thank you for the video information but I feel you're not explaining everything step by step. So when you rinse the seeds in the jar do you drain the water? and, where do put the jars once drained? On top of counter where is dark or is it better inside a cabinet ? also how do you place the jars for drainage or do you drain while germinating? How about to turn them green do you put it where it gets light? and about the husks That does not look like the best way of getting them out. A little bit at a time? but wouldn't that make it hard to collect the sprouts once it's scattered all in the water with the husk? Im sorry for all the questions but This video leaves me confused. A lot of information missing.
