Thanks for thoroughly defining the "swag hook." We had a hook that broke (son jumped down from bunk upstairs), breaking off at the curve of the hook. I initially thought the screw and hook were one part. You explained not so, husband bought replacement hook, screwed new hook on and was able to re-swag chain of ceiling light. Thanks again!

Yes I would think you could do it on a plaster ceiling as well. Most swag hooks come so you can either install in a drywall ceiling with no wood above where you can install the swag hook or.....if there is wood up there you can install a swag hook up there as well. The swag hook should come with two different ends you can put on it so with the plaster ceiling if you in fact hit the little wood slats up there you can screw into the wood. Drill a little starter hole in the wood so you don't crack it. I have more DIY videos for you on my channel. Hey Joe, Awesome idea for hanging the candles over the railing. They'll look good there! I have a question. Do you have a neat little trick for removing the screw from a stud without damaging the threads? I'd like to fill that hole and put the hook elsewhere. Nobody here has that info. Maybe you can make a video on how to remove a swag hook? In the meantime though, if you have a minute, could you give me an idea? You are appreciated!

I’m confused I didn’t put it up enough and now that it’s in the ceiling it won’t screw up and my hook is dangling.,..???

If you installed your hook with a metal wing nut just into the drywall then you need to kind of pull down on your hook while turning the hook like you are tightening it up then keep doing that until the threads on the hook are tightening up on the wing nut until the hook is tight to the ceiling. See? Let me know if you get it....

Geez without power tools? well I guess you could leave the screw end off then take contact cement or crazy glue gel or gorilla glue gel or construction adhesive & put up there & tape it up there for over night then hold your breath! Let me know what you ended up doing!

Yes if you have wood up there you can just put on the screw threads & do it that way. If you don't have wood up there but just drywall without wood backing behind the drywall then use the other thingy magig..!
