This helped me get off, taper off Xanax. I meditated for about six months, but only on open awareness, and concentration. Wish I did compassion more to keep more in a loving state of mind. I guess I wasn't ready. Like body scan, staring at things, listening to repetitive sounds, listening to google( inspiring )talks with eyes closed, some nature sounds, walking meditation where I counted my exhales, also sitting doing slow little movements like calve raises as an example, and a funny one was butt clenches worked good. I would inhale and clench one side, exhale and clench the other side not hard just medium.... many things that would be considered extremely boring. Except the Google talks where great so I did those a lot a night easier to concentrate because I love them. The boring stuff takes more power to stay focused. I would do 30 -60 minute meditations rounds. All while giving attention to my breath. That is very important. I probably meditated from one to two hours a day. But later even four hours because it was so helpful to stop my mind from wandering.( After a while I became aware that I was not really paying attention to what ever I was doing. Constantly daydreaming....not good at all.) But I actually payed some attention to my breath the entire day to get faster results. Compassionate thoughts, I just thought occasionally through the day. I will start those type meditations now. Well after about six months when I had a panic attack waking up in the middle of the night, heart pounding, out of breath, (I was withdrawing from Xanax) I sat down focused on my breath and did synchronized butt clenches and breaths...the symptoms stopped in one to two minutes. I was a little shocked when I first heard make friends with panic but... I understand it as keep focus on steady breath and notice the symptoms but keep focus on the breath. Don't wish them to stop just give attention to breath and maybe something else, for me some slight movement that you could do anywhere helps too if needed. Seems impossible at first but after following your breath through weeks it gets easy knowing how beneficial it is. You keep centered. I dealt with a lot of suffering calmly by meditating...focusing on the breath, and allowing the symptoms to come and go. I also did memorization of quotes ("Daily "Calm" by hallmark ,beautiful pics so you can practice visualization and silent recitation, just two a day for 30 minutes or more) forgot to say that, reading helpful inspiring books like the linden method by Charles linden, rinpoches book is next, Buddhas brain, just to name a few, yoga,,,all while paying attention to the breath! Watch videos as much as you can from Rinpoche, Matthew Ricard (not spelled right). Matteiu?, Meditation and the Science of Human Flourishing Workshop - Part 1This one great. watch things by dr Richard j Davidson, Daniel Siegel...all experts. Do it with your eyes closed, focus on your breath make it a meditation. I even focus on my breath when cooking. I've really built up my concentration. I have more to go but I've come a long way because of meditation! Thank you to all those who are spreading this amazing knowledge. I have and will do the same.

I’m not quite sure what Rinpoche means, “Make friends with your panic/use your panic as support for your meditation.” I understand when he says panic is your boss or your enemy-makes perfect sense to me. I’m just stuck at how you make it your friend and support. If someone can explain to me, I’d appreciate it very much. Thank you! Namaste. 🙏🏼

i'll tell you my way of meditation, i learned many tehnics and the most efficient and simple (for me) is anapana tehnic. first i sit in lotus, with a cushion for meditation under my butt, so my spine is straight. i start by "scaning" my body from feet to head. i put my attention on the fingers on my feet and i relax every muscle. i go up the body (scan) till i relax every muscle. (make sure your stomach and sfincter are relax also). and now the set is clear for meditation. i put my attention on the air that is entering my nose, i just follow the air as it comes and goes through the nostril. i dont force the breathing. if after a few breaths my monkey mind goes to follow a thought insted of the breathing, i gently move my attention from thoughts back to breathing. this is my "starting kit" in meditation. :) hope this helps. (english is not my native language, did my best to explain)

He is teaching meditation. According to which we should accept with awareness to what ever is going within and without us. Not to panic or fear just accept. Watching with awareness. In time the panic and fear will be dissolved. And the mind put to rest and open to further meditation.

Thank you for sharing your observation. My observation is he is the best teacher I have ever encountered of meditation this brief talk distills that wisdom brilliantly. #1) Accept you can not control the mind - monkey mind. It is either a) Yes Sir! Or, b) Go Away!, rather, make friends with the problem. Develop inner happiness in all situations. As the ancients say as a blessing; “May the world see you with a friendly eye, and may you see the world with a friendly eye.” Practice this daily on the cushion. Then, carry your meditation mind with you through the day into your sleep - Knowledge, Awareness, Wisdom in Action, daily. Come back in 30 days and watch these 2 videos again ;) 🙏

I really like these videos of yours. You talk deeply, yet lightheartedly. You seemed to be very balance and genuinely happy about being alive. Although, what happens when your thoughts create actions directly? How do I not force those thoughts away while preventing at least the negative actions those thoughts create? I do see what you mean about a lot of things. I need to treat my mind as my friend, instead of my enemy. :) I need the purity of my soul to soak into me, correct?

When I was doing tests in school when I was younger, I would focus on the concept of silence and what silence sounds like (even though the classroom really wasn't). As I did this, I got more calm and focused and was able to concentrate on the questions at hand. The stress disappeared. All you need, is already there folks.

This resonates with a study about a monk who had been meditating for many years (decades), where they looked at brain imaging. I think the scientist said something like, "This must be the happiest person on Earth." They had NEVER seen activity in brain "happy centers" like they had seen in that monk.

Forgot to say all these things I did built up my brain, like the hippocampus I believe, the part that helps you learn new info, I also juggled while following breath, stationary bike, because they all built the brain up. A smarter brain will "learn" how to stay calm and snap out of stress faster and faster. So all those things I did and still do are a way of meditating for many hours without actually just sitting down. But the typical sitting down is very important to do. I also did laying meditation. This one is difficult without falling asleep. So Google talks or something similar kept me very awake. Kept my hand on my belly. While I listened. Oh yea eat healthy, probiotics, multivitamin, if necessary, tryptophan. Especially for night to get deep sleep. I only take 500mg through the day and dream every day! No side effects at all! Needs to be taken one hour before you eat or one hour after you eat so it doesn't compete with other amino acids. This will turn into serotonin, with proper nutrition, in your brain. I eat three to four organic bananas a day too they have good nutrition. Pesticides in non organic food I believe kill some good bacteria in our gut so if it's leafy like kale, thin skinned fruit, please try to go organic. But meats, eggs are also full of antibiotics, unless it's organic. That's why I eat wild caught sardines.... and I also nuts for healthy fat (our brain is mostly fat). Veggies support the healthy gut bacteria which affects our absorption of vitamins that in turn convert the food into neurotransmitters. Learning to be aware also makes you aware of your emotions and how you deal with people which definitely affects mood. I notice I hardly ever get mad, or if I do its subtle and fades quick now. By practicing compassion you stay calm first off and then you learn to move on fast too. So staying calm is a multi spoked wheel. Good luck and stay hopeful. You will get better!
