My younger dog of about 1 year would lunge on leash any time the neighbors or their dog was out. That drop back recall is so simple but man it really help the dog focus on you. It has worked wonders on his reactivity alongside collar/leash corrections. Hes a different dog around our neighbors now. So grateful for this content.

Belgians require a dedicated owner. I have the long-haired black version and everything is very structured and lots of physical and mental exercise. That Terv will be just fine. He appreciates getting a command and praise than just a correction.

You are my biggest inspiration. I work with dogs full time and I really want to become a dog trainer. I've watched you for years and learned how to train my own dogs by you and a few other trainers I follow. My favorite part of working with animals is learning the body language and bring able to communicate effectively with the dog/animal. I find it so fascinating and satisfying to figure out what an animal is trying to say no matter the species. I'm not sure the best way to get into the dog training world but I'm looking into that. Your videos inspire me everytime.

You can do it!! Find yourself a good in person mentor and absorb as much as you can from them! I worked with my mentor for about a year before I started taking my own clients (with a little of his help at the start), and I am so thankful I took that leap and started training on my own. It's such a rewarding experience to work with people and their dogs.

I couldn't agree more, I recently gave up my job to take up training, walking and pet sitting up full time, I love the way cats communicate, I've gotten to a point where even cats with stranger danger and heavy fear seem eager to be my friend in the owners eyes haha

His owners just needed a bit of help... ..I rescued one yrs ago..He was suppose to b a long haired GSD....." TAURUS"" .was an EXCELLENT dog lived to be 16 yrs old. Thankfully they arent being over bred like their cousin the Malinois..

Great Job Tom. Broke this down in a way the mom could understand. I always bring up breed acknowledgement when I start any training consultation with someone. I have seen many trainers never even touch breed knowledge. Understanding the capacity and needs of a breed can take you very far in a relationship.

Hello, Hercy is our 2 yo Jindo who we love very much. He first started biting around 6 months old. He is a very fearful but dominant dog who has learned that biting is effective. He is both human and dog aggressive. We have not had another person inside our home since he bit my friend. He cannot be handled by anyone but me and Joe. He cannot be near any other dogs. When we bring him for vet appointments, he has to be tranquilized. His mom and other littermate have been euthanized for these same reasons. We've tried every approach: Traditional training, positive reinforcement training. He is even working with a behavioral veterinarian who has him on Fluoxetine hydrochloride and Gabapentin. So far, every professional has recommended that we put him down. More recently, we met with a seasoned trainer who specializes in aggressive dogs. He also told us there is very little hope for Hercules. On the flip side, he can be so playful, sweet and affectionate. He likes to run around the house with too many toys inside his mouth. He likes to rest his head against our lap when he sleeps. He always wants to be included in family activities. He loves his head scratches. He's our little bubba. We love him so much despite everything but are at a loss about how we can help him. Would be great if you could consider his case. Thank you.

I appreciate dog fanciers and dog enthusiast. Especially those who want to support working and rare working breeds but like Tom said, they aren't pets. They need an outlet. These dogs thrive in working sports like herding, rally, obedience, agility and there are TONS of free resources and clubs that can help you work your dog's body and mind. I don't think neutrality is enough for this dog. We don't know the whole story, this is but a glimpse but this dog really does need a job. I don't think mental engagement is enough for Tervurens. But all the tervurens I know are working dogs. This tervuren also looks rather young, appears to still have its puppy coat. Good on her for getting the help early.

This second dog, Nova, is a little like mine used to be, a walking nose. 😂 I use the break or free word to give her a sniff break, and refocus with heel and sometimes a job like "lets go to the mail box", which she knows and does well, including pointing at the drop slot.
