These myths are often made by people who are angry and don’t pay attention to what’s going on. Saying everyone is the same is far from the truth, you just have to do some basic research. This also leads to misinformation but that’s another story…

Yeah it's hard sometimes because the brain loves patterns and it loves to be right about patterns enough that it can dismiss any new information. So what I try to watch for within myself is my temptation to paint people in particular with a single brush. It is probably never a temptation worth giving in to. Try to be curious about people, it never hurts to see the truth about even the folks who might have beliefs that contribute to the ways society harms you. It's good to be informed about the truth instead of blindsided by confirmation bias, our brains really love confirmation bias and dismissal of things that don't confirm our biases. It's sneaky! Likewise, the more we pay attention to politicians and vote with our actual vote, the more we can find and support candidates who are at least more productive representatives

I think what they're trying to get at when they say both sides are the same is that both sides don't have our interest in mind

there's also the myth that voting for your preferred candidate is a wasted vote, or a vote given to the opponent. How do you feel about that as myth or fact? this series is so great.
