I began my journey into W/D/W a little over 2 years ago and I fairly quickly decided to get the entire BOSS 500-series. And listening to Dave here he's really making me happy I did. DD-500, RV-500, MD-500 and even the RC-500 are all on my board 😊 If there were such a thing as a BOSS EQ-500 it would be on there as well, but I have the EQ-200 and that thing is awesome as well. You just gotta' love BOSS!

Man, I played a Friedman guitar for the first time yesterday and it was THE BEST guitar I've ever played. The neck was incredible, the pickups were so clear in the low end (chef's kiss)

Awesome to see Friedman on this. His work is truly pro. When you guys did the distortion episode, I was thinking the Friedman Smallbox pedal should be on people’s list. Very versatile, and to me, sounds phenomenal. Was also impressed to see Lyle from Psionic being on the show. Been following him a while and was really excited to see him show up. Great content guys!

Having the effects in parallel to the main guitar cabs I think helps not to get too much effect, preserve tone, and the mixing guys are able to do their magic easily. I think some british guitar hero had center, left and right, three separate sections for main (dry), effect A (wet 1) and effect B (wet 2). Cheers. Oh actually now I get it, wet + dry + wet.

Boss Wall Warts ftw! I have my pedals and effects on shelves along with the various amplifiers so the whole rig is atomized anyway. I have a couple dozen Boss PSA120Ss, and six or eight of the Dunlop Wall Warts, for when I want the little right angle connector.

I tried the ‘no amps on stage’ thing as a bassplayer in a pro band for about a year... I had to use my SansAmp stuff with in-ears, when my guitarist buddies were trying out the fancier stuff. We played a lot of festivals with bigger bands, wich means: no soundcheck, only a line check, never a great FOH engineer (let alone our own, 🤣), same goes for the monitor/ in ear mixer... That does never work, period!!! I just could not do my freakin’ job anymore!! So, never again! We use slightly smaller amps now for guitars, but they’re chosen with much more care. One of our guitarists’ playing a wet/dry rig, and one uses everything in front of his amp. I love the latter... I take a slightly smaller set, but use a nice quality tube-DI pedal (Koch ‘63 OD) with speakersim and pre- and post for my few pedals. We learned to know our own gear inside and out! So, to help the so called pro’s at FOH and the monitormixers. It works! Both in smaller pubs/clubs and on festivals. When they ask us to turn down even more, our answer is a collective ‘NO!’ I’m able to do my job once again! 🖖

Interesting discussion. Thanks. Gotta say…. My AxeFx III reinforced by the Mesa cabinets I’ve always used represents all the best of wet-dry-wet and all the “danger” with much less noise, much more convenience, and much less headache. Not eager to go back to how things were!

Guys! You should definitely check the video “Disco Eterno - Soda Stereo MTV unplugged”, to me, one of the best examples of how wet dry wet makes a difference, the ending with the eventide eclipse stereo band delay algorithm it’s amazing, he had the dry through a 60s AC30 and the wet through a couple of JC120s AWESOME STUFF! Anything soda stereo and anything Cerati (the singer guitar player) did, it’s quite remarkable, hope you get to check it out!

Please cover the seemingly esoteric subject that is never touched on but I think is really interesting. The use of subs in guitar rigs. Peavey made a 6505 1x18 powered sub for the amp. Rivera made that Knucklehead with the 2x12, 1x15(?) sub in a 412 box, I've heard srv used one, ...

I have used a W/D/W rig since the mid ‘90s with three 1x12s, or three vertical 2x12s. There is nothing like it. All you need is a sprinkle of chorus or detune, a pinch of ping-pong delay and 🦄 … That said, sound guys are always a PITA … and you don’t need one if there is another guitarist in your band.

Is it possible to run a wet dry rig with a Boss es-5? I have 4 pedals in the es 5 that go in front of amp A. My wet effects (i. e. Timeline, Plethora x3) are in the effects loop of amp A. I control them via midi. How can I set a second amp (amp B) to be the dry amp? I would like this amp to be controlled by the es 5 switcher and to share the gain pedals in the switcher. I know I at least need an aby switcher with an isolated output and the ability to reverse phase issues. I also know the es 8 had two outputs, but it's too large and heavy. What additional gear would I need to accomplish my goal with the Boss es 5? Thanks, Josh

Watching this makes you realize how much more of a pro Friedman is compared to these other guys. The little details like not putting a million tie downs on a board are paramount. Dave is all about functionality and practicality. These other clowns just want it to look pretty.

Does anyone know why Mason said you need a mixer to use the Micropitch from Eventide?
@Brynnybear149
@Brynnybear149 Жыл бұрын
Because Mason is a fraud who knows nothing about how to actually build a rig. This has been documented. He hacked one all to hell for Joe Bonamassa and Friedman had to fix it.
@2Below5150
@2Below5150 Жыл бұрын
I would like to know also. I am currently gathering the components for a w/d/w rig. My plan was to have the Micropitch and the EVH Boss delay going to the wet cabs. I was going to use a Suhr Iso Line box to the Micropitch to the delay pedal to a stereo Poweramp to my wet cabs. I'm not sure if Mason mentioned a mixer because the Micropitch doesn't have a dry through? Not sure.
@moacyrcalheiros6141
@moacyrcalheiros6141 Жыл бұрын
@@2Below5150 by the time the signal hits the Eventide the dry path is already separated so going forward you can have all effects just wet. Does that make sense? So there would be no need for a mixer.
@2Below5150
@2Below5150 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely makes sense. That's how I thought it would work. If I added a mixer before the Micropitch, I could then mix some dry into the 2 wets then correct?
@moacyrcalheiros6141
@moacyrcalheiros6141 Жыл бұрын
@@2Below5150 you need to first read the Eventide manual because it might already have the ability to mix the dry and wet signal to it's output. If that is the case you don't need an additional mixer. The only way to add dry to a 100% wet signal would be to place the mixer at the end of the chain before going to the power amps. Mason has a few videos explaining how to hook everything up.

@GoodwoodAudio re: direct sounds and silent stages: the most disappointing show I ever went to was Gang of Youths a couple years ago. Waited hours outside to be up against the front of the stage. Silent stage. No fills up front. Could literally hear *nothing* but drums all night. Still was fun because... well... Gang of Youths, but otherwise was really lame.

Funny. I got that impression from Mason, who kind of dominates asking the questions. And the other two are allowed to sit in. Regarding Dave, he is the guest. The guest they (or Mason) asks questions, to get them answered. And it is not that Dave is cutting someone off. Or being to long winded in his answers. Not sure what you have been expecting, tbh.
