Unfortunately this video is done with misadjusted headlights. They do not come adjusted properly from factory - it is the responsibility of the dealer to adjust them. What is somewhat unique on the Ioniq 5 is that the high beams are adjusted separately from low beams and if the dealer does not pay attention then this video is exactly how it ends up. Mine were exactly like in the video, until they got adjusted to spec, which made it 100 times better. No more bright blob in the middle. In fact the high beams were so bad that the car would not even pass MOT, same like in this video.

The light test is really useful for Nordic countries. Though one suggestion, could you please also test the auto high/low beam switching in traffic? It would be good to know when do the high beam switches to low beam and how fast do they switch back once you get past the oncoming car. Usually the automatic switch switches too early and waits too long after the oncoming car has passed, leaving you in darkness for a few seconds.

I personally was not expecting adaptive headlights as was never mentioned by Hyundai and lets be real , we have to remind ourselves of the actual price of this vehicle compared to equal offerings. ID.4 may have better spread but it is also bland looking and has some other niggles as the Ioniq 5 does. At the 4;15 mark the lighting is good , there is no issue w that. There is plenty of lighting for cornering as well imho and my eyes are older. The lighting is actually centered pretty correctly. Polestar 2 AWD is and I expect will be priced higher than Ioniq 5 Ultimate in Canada so not a true comparison but pricing will also vary amongst countries
@Soordhin3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that test. I love the Ioniq 5 for its design and fast charging speed, but i have to say it has some major disappointments, now including the lights. In todays world a fully adaptable LED matrix is a thing that should be available, at least as an option if not standard equipment (like the fat e-Tron has).
@xplmr13 жыл бұрын
That high beam is so pinpointed into a spotlight. It would be great for an aircraft or a dragster but not for a vehicle that deals with roads with curves. As for the wet roads being bad for headlights explanation, well a wet road becomes like a mirror. Instead of reflecting your headlights back at you helping you see the texture of the road, the water helps the light bounce off of the wet surface ahead of you and back up into the air like a stone skipping off of water and actually blinding oncoming drivers in the process. In other words your headlights act like a laser on a shallow angle against a mirror continuing on without returning much visible light to your eyes.
@chevalde313 жыл бұрын
Bjørn, did you pre-adjust the angle of the headlights in the menus of the top trim projectors ( not in lower trims)? There is a procedure and this might explain probably the disappointing results. I understand that reviewers do not have/ or take always the time to read fully the manuals but it can really throw off a review. It can also be changed with the load of the passengers/ equipment in the trunk, non readjusted tire pressures (check the TPMS graphic) due to Norway wide temperature extremes. But you are really the best of them all even if you are not aware of deep comprehension and traps in some of the fancy features. Thanks for the overall quality of the videos and contents

We live on the country side in Sweden and without LED matrix with adaptive lights as in Polestar 2. We would hit animals during nights in spring, summer, fall and winter lights that's one of the reason Polestar 2 was our choice. They save lives.

Yes, we really need « the real live moose emergency braking test » as we have lots of moose accidents. Do you think those electronic pedestrian safety features would really brake hard automatically on a live moose on the road at night???
@granl0f3 жыл бұрын
@@chevalde31 It depends on the situation. If the moose is right infront of the car, the auto collision system will activate. I guess it's activated if something jumps infront from the side as well. I don't have the correct answer for that. If you see something in before that will make u react.

It seems many modern cars don't have as good headlights as I'd expect given the LED technology. I used to have a Megane CC with halogen lights and they were actually really good, there's no excuse. @@Deuxiit I generally agree: the headlights do not seem top notch or even compete with the best ones. At the moment I am still with my VW Tiguan and it has also not the best headlights on the market. Still, able to see what I need to see. I and my brother tested the Ioniq 5 some weeks ago since he was about to upgrade from his BMW i3. The Ioniq 5 was a nice car. However, the lights were too shabby so he ordered an ID3 instead. The low beam couldn't almost light up the left side of the road, as in your video. Very bad. The high beam you can fix with an extra LED bar, but not the low beam. Notably, the car was having the lower trim. Not sure if the higher trim has better lights though.

I don't like how modern cars leave the low beam on when you switch to high beam. This here is a good example of how little the high beam actually lights. Used to be with halogens the low beam switched off when you turn on high beam. Of course bulb power was probably an issue but it also helps you adjust to darkness and the strong low beam light doesn't draw your attention when looking far ahead. You don't need the low beam light anyway when driving with high beam on. It just looks nice on a demo and actually distracts you.
