I was wondering at some point what happened to Skullgirls and why it turned into what it is now... I saw the steam reviews but they pretty much did not explain anything besides deleted content (which is still bad) but I never knew just how disgusting it gets. I'm more inclined to believe Alex's side of the story considering how respectful he was when talking about the situation with Indivisible. I remember when it launched and character would randomly break apart into hitboxes, the endless delays, not having movelists at launch, Mike gloating about how easy it is to prevent infinites in a fighting game only for the game to launch with an infinite. But the first major screw up was announcing patch notes for the next patch, causing everyone to stop playing the game until the new patch hit because their old combos wouldn't work...and then the patch taking more than a year to come out, basically destroying Skullgirls right out the gate! Poor Skullgirls...

That's true. As somebody who followed Skullgirls from 2011 to roughly 2017, I can say Mike did some effort. In his first interviews about Skullgirls, he was so full of himself, and yelled how Skullgirls was so much better than games like Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Blazblue. There's still part of a live stream, here in youtube, in which Maximilian Dood went to play and talk to Mike about Skullgirls. Mike had a lot of hubris in that stream. But as the years passed, Mike became more self aware, and humble. He didn't call shit on the big AAA fighting games companies (or did less than before). And tried to do less down talking to people not knowing a lot of Skullgirls or fighting games.

This whole situation sickens me. I'm autistic, and I know very well how people will tell you something is okay and then talk about you behind your back. Judging what is and is not appropriate is more difficult when you are autistic. Yes, you can learn some of it through pattern recognition but it isn't an intuitive process. The desire to fit in with a group is also powerful, so if they have a pattern of certain jokes and comments, it is easy to see those types of comments as perfectly fine within that group. I used to love the game but after all of this, I've stopped playing. It's a shame too, because it was a great game.

Other people have covered this in the past, though I think Technicals did the best job in exposing just how bad the situation was. Unfortunately the Skullgirls Community is pretty split and not in a good way. Basically, you have the side that have the details and know Mike Z was innocent and just some awkward aspergic dude that didn't really like socializing (as an aspergic person myself this boils down to being exhausted from people misunderstanding you) and then you have the people who only heard the allegations and just concluded, "Wow Skullgirls is run by a pervert". The split is bad in particular because when it comes to outsiders, they only hear from the latter who have convinced the public that Mike Z, a completely innocent guy who was the victim in all of this, is nothing but a s*x fiend. Fortunately, he has found work at a different company that is aware and sympathetic to his situation and he is preparing a countersuit which he SHOULD win. Unfortunately, the price for that was Skullgirls and his other game. As a Skullgirls fan myself, the last few years have been agonizing. Since release I have advocated for this game, its stellar art and animation, the characters, the world, the music, etc and I had done this for over a decade. Then the allegations happened and overnight this game I loved so much became the "Pedo Game" because of the dishonest anti-consumer hacks currently working on the game (Who insulted SG fans in their discord for the record). Then this recent big update happened and I am completely hopeless now. This went from a highly underappreciated, underrated indie game that belonged up there with the other great fighting games to a punching bag slandered as a den for sexual degeneracy. I mean, how am I supposed to feel? This all reads like repeated kicks to the groin.
