I bought and setup a 3D FDM printer (Neptune 2D) and while Benchy printed near-perfectly... my niece wanted an Eevee and the default Cura settings made support removal a NIGHTMARE. And left lots of spots I had to cut, lots of spots that didn't NEED support and even some literally embedded into the model, which made me grab my dremel tools and sanding the model for half an hour... So I'm really glad you've tested and showed results of this software. Definitely have to try it after work for my next project.

This doesn't really justify a monthly sub to me if I'm honest. Cura is pretty good IMO. The Arachne engine (is this in Lychee's filament beta?) is really useful for variable layer heights and Cura is generally pretty customisable and loads of well established plugins all for free. I don't think being able to manually place mirrored supports and seeing them before slicing justifies the cost.
@UncleJessy2 жыл бұрын
You can manually place & mirror supports for Free FYI its just the inline supports/paint on supports etc. But yea completely understandable. Plus this is the first release of their slicer. I'm just happy for manual supports vs what we have in Cura & prusa slicer for all of the helmets I like to print

Prusa Slicer is much more useful in my opinion based on this video, not only you have already painted supports, but also you have smart fill painted supports to designated face, and you can paint where you don't want supports to be. So nope, Lychee is overpriced product already.

Uncle Jessy I have a challenge for you! I have made 2 products (prototyping and testing is over) and have had massive difficulty in producing nice looking models in my 3d Printers. They are now 2 years old and I still can't get them made to a standard where I can sell them. This is all because they contain what I call 'large flats' - horrendous surfaces that are easy when you look at most home products - but tend to be real difficult with resin and FDM printers. Like the bottom of an ashtray or coaster for example. Now what happens if a printed something that looks like a coke can? Hideous warping and elephants foot!! If I gave you these models - or even if you tried to print some large flats yourself - I think it woulkd make a great video that is actually usefull for tackling one of the biggest drawbacks to printing in general. Some notes : Using lightning infill is the only way i have managed to stop elephants foot and warping on large flats. I hear you saying 'vary the fans - the temp,etc - print slower/faster - change this or that' but trust me - my findings are done over an entire year trying to solve this problem. Lightning infill helps massively! Also I am aware that resin printing has wapring too for flat suraces, but I cant print metallics in resin - so unless you have a video about adding metallics to resin - then I would love a video about large flats please if possible! (or about adding metallic powder to resin ) Neither of which you seem to have done - so I would love if you could deliver that for xmas - Father Printmas!

I love the custom support option with mirroring. Would be nice to see a custom infill option as well. Where we could place infill/supports inside the 3d print. Also love seeing the supports without slicing every time but yes, the colors need to be changed. I will be downloading Lychee now :)

Is the zig zag pattern of the support structure relative to the bed or the part. An annoyance I had in S3D was that duplicated (or a symmetrical model) would have different support structure placement due to their position on the bed. Is there also support blockers? (might have missed that in the video). In S3D it is so annoying needing to click-delete dozens of support beams. What about support line width? Annoying in S3D to need to create a second process just to under-extrude support. Does it support vertical holes with zigzag support or the much better perimeter-following support (like Cura does or like PS "snug supports"?
@UncleJessy2 жыл бұрын
Zig zag, yes is based on the bed but you can rotate the supports in the app!! Didn’t show in the video I’m not seeing support blockers but wouldn’t be surprised if they are there or coming as it’s on their resin slicer! Not familiar with support line width, in the pro option you can really wildly manipulate each support or set of supports Not familiar with that last request. I’d say checkout the free version and see!
@condorman62932 жыл бұрын
@@UncleJessy @Uncle Jessy What do you mean by "you can rotate supports"? Do you mean you can change the support xy angle? If so, this wouldn't help, at least not that I can figure. The only way I know of that mitigates this issue is slightly shifting your parts to align them with the "support grid". Support blockers are a must imo so I'll look into myself. Support line width, in PS or SS for example, is the ability to change the line width of the support structure. Dropping it to just below your nozzle diameter makes the support break apart much more easily and it also saves a somewhat insignificant amount of filament. As for the "snug" supports, imagine needing to support a 90* overhang "lip" of an objectt. Would you want the overhanging perimeter supported by zig zags or supported by support structure that follows that perimeter? Hard to explain without photos, but S3D style supports are awful for supporting any small lip without a lot of clearance.

Just tried the beta and after several restarts to get things corrected a basic print did ok. The initial issues I see. As you found, can't make your own printer. Couldn't even find a way to copy one and use that. No place to enter filament diameter. It is listed under a printer but is locked. Needs to be in with filament. You can adjust acceleration and jerk but not the filament diameter? Odd. No Z offset adjustment. One of my printers does not have auto leveling so you need to use the Z offset, like in S3D, to fine tune the first layer. One issue I found was the start script for the printer I tried was basically useless. Nozzle and bed heating at the same time which basically leaves the nozzle at temp cooking the filament while the bed heats. Also the prime wasn't even on the bed. The script was a hatchet job that was mostly over done, excess commands that weren't even relevant or functioning properly. Overall it is ok so we'll see where it goes. Agree with you on S3D. Lot's of people rag on it but it still works well and is reliable.

Subscription based for a slicer is just.. hard no. There are very few applications I find to be able to really justify a subscription model as the only option, slicers are very definitely not on that list. But no hate, a lot of people feel differently and Lychee is undeniably a quality product. If they let me buy it outright, with the option of paying for updates, my opinion would likely be have been different.

Ooooo I’ll be able to use the only slicer I’ve liked enough to pay for for everything 😱

@UncleJessy Was there a giveaway for this video? I've been messaged by a separate account with your profile picture claiming to be your giveaway account and telling me I've won a giveaway but the whole thing is questionable.

Sad that Simplifi is dead. I, too licensed it before it went into what appears to be permanent hibernation. And iff I can do all my slicing in one app, I'll gladly pay for the ability to have pretty much the same abilities regardless of the printing materials.

Supports in prusaslicer are way better than s3d. You can literally paint anywhere on the model you want the supports as opposed to s3d where you have to click.. click click click… drove me nuts, lol. Plus they make it super easy to set up color changes.

The supports in this slicer look pretty cool though. The mirror function is pretty neat.
