Story 3: The sister is sus. OP SAW how the boyfriend was becoming uncomfortable and her sister "never lying" just sounds like a desperate lie they're telling themselves. He was on board with her living there until he suddenly avoided her at all costs? That screams some shit is going on. OP's boyfriend deserves better. Best of luck random dude, stay away from the crazies in the future.

I swear, any partner I have that "sits me down" and tells me what to do would have hell to pay for it. Fuck that noise. I can't even be surprised that she didn't ask why because when she did get an answer she not only flipped it off, but then kicked the man out of his own home with threats and, again, *told* him that he has to stay out of his own home for *her* guest's sake. I'd have boxed her ears in, but I'm a woman so I guess this whole situation would've gone down differently from the get-go.

especially since her reason for not wanting to live at home was that her "parents are unreasonable" - like what does that mean? Does it mean removing the door and not giving any privacy/being invasive or abusive - or does it mean that they don't let her snoop through other people's belonging and have normal houserules. The fact that OP just told the BF to stop avoiding the sister, and not have a talk with him on why, makes me very unsympatethic to the OP. People shouldn't live together and be in a comitted relationship if they are unable to communicate.

1. Alex's comfort isn't worth OP's health, even if he's a special needs kid. His mom needs to step up; it's her child after all. 2. Feeling guilty that your parents know the truth of your horrible life isn't normal, even if they do cry and apologize for their part. Who hurt you, OP? 3. Literally took the side of the sexual harasser and kicked the victim out of his own apartment. OP doesn't deserve her boyfriend after the way she treated him. 4. Did OP really call a child a dramatic brat when they themselves are one? She's five, they're an adult; act like one!

2. It's the cause of a life of trauma. You second guess every action you make, especially major ones. Whenever you express emotions your brain is wired to automatically assume you're in the wrong, because to someone who's abused, emotions are dangerous and can get you hurt. If you feel guilty when you express emotions, you won't express emotions as often, and in the eyes of your brain, you're "safe." Telling the truth, especially a harsh truth, after years of abuse wherein your brain was wired to lie and hide is impossibly difficult. OP is extremely strong and, surprise surprise, NTA.

What bothered me is that they brought their other children without thinking about any of the possible negative effects it could have on Op. They just did it, yeah they apologized but they should have just gone on their own, and then mention the others over time. Springing everything about the fantastic lives they had at once like the way they did can be very upsetting for the child who was given up immediately after birth, especially if you don't have any clue what their life was truly like other than what you imagined it was

Story 2: Why did they bring their families with them? At that point you're basically rubbing in her face the children you *didn't* give up. Worse, you expose her to way too much and make the meeting far less personal. I won't say the biological parents are A-holes but they definitely did something extremely stupid. Story 3: If the roles were reversed and you'd react differently, then most of the time you're in the wrong. I get there's a familial bond with wanting to protect your sister especially if things are bad with the parents, but that's no excuse to blow up on a victim who might have just been sexually assaulted. My advice is that sister needs to get in therapy (I know shocker) and there needs to be an actual conversation with her, if she's guilty she's not going to come clean especially if she's just a teenager. She should have believed her bf while also talking with the sister, now the sister has no consequences for sexual harrasment and what kind of example is that? Don't kick either one out, but keep them separate for a bit while you figure it out. As an older sister and mother myself I wholly get it, but that bf was belittled and just pushed how bad wr treat men with regards to sexual assault. I don't think that relationship can be salvaged after that, be skeptical not dismissive.

@@philwill0123 While I don't think you'd be in the wrong, there's still issues that need to be addressed. I don't remember if they said the age of the sister, but if they're just a teenager there's still a chance for her. Something is going on and needs to be addressed, kicking her out won't fix that especially because yhe parents described as unreasonable could mean anything from 'No going out while we're still in a pandemic' to 'Obey our every rule or we punish you severely.' Just depends on the interpretation. Or they could even enabling that behavior by other things. Perhaps she is lying because she doesn't want to get kicked out and go back to a potentially abusive household... We just dont know. This doesn't change the YTA verdict on Op's part for doing very little to actually find the truth.

That does not help the situation at all. The boyfriend will still not trust OP or sister,and whatever happens, the sister will not be staying there because its a recipe for disaster. Whatever happened to sister at her home, his accusation is a dealbreaker. Either she goes or relationship is over. OP is not getting this.

@@philwill0123 oh 100% agree with you, I actually forgot that it was going on for a lot longer than just the catalyst fight. Maybe if the OP had actually addressed this when the BF first started showing issues they could have resolved this much much earlier and it wouldn't have escalated to the point someone had to move out. Her neglect of bf his feelings/actions is wholly on her... In the end he's the victim and needed to be believed and the OP should have supported him the MINUTE he started showing being uncomfortable around her sister. I'm sure he didn't say anything because he didn't fully know at first what was actually happening and didn't want to cause a scene. Story 4: Splashing Child So, OP is getting upset at a 5yr old and applying standards of maturity that is not suitable for a toddler. Of course they are mad that you didn't listen. They don't understand conflict resolution, managing emotions or understanding how to be grateful. This is a teaching moment for them, as they feel that you invaded their level of comfort and are clearly not trustworthy to recognize their need for respect. Apologize, make them see that you are very sorry for hurting them and point them towards the bright side. "It won't happen again, and I will listen to you a lot better from now on. Now, how about we continue our fun vacation? Can you forgive me? Here have some pizza. If you don't feel like it now, it's ok but if you need anything I am here." Too many times have adults interpreted my pain as malicious when I was a kid, and it still affects me to this day - that I am never allowed to feel injustice or else I am unreasonable. It turns you into a doormat who can't stick up for themselves when necessary. Fix your mentality now, OP.

Story 1: OP is NTA. Question, the child was over at his father's home for months... Obviously, somehow the father was able to handle him not having his Uncle cook and eat and play with him. So now that the kid is back, the mother is just dropping the ball because she doesn't want to be strict and control her child. Special Needs should not be used at an excuse for bad behavior. OP needs to move out and his sister needs to use the child support she gets to pay for inhome care and behavioral therapy. Kid needs to learn to maintain themselves NOW while they are small. The kiddo will eventually grow and as an adult male, his outbursts of violence can be very dangerous for anyone around him.
@CL-lx2pm
@CL-lx2pm 4 жыл бұрын
So much this! People seem to think the only two options for special needs kids are "give in because fits are hard" or "scream and abuse because fits are annoying." Neither are acceptable. The kid isn't just some special needs annoyance, he's *a person* and he's not going to be a kid forever. Even if he ends up being dependent for life he still needs someone to establish a healthy routine for him to at least be able to function and have his basic health needs taken care of. Fits suck for *everyone* involved but that doesn't mean the sister can just give up on her son's health. Nothing in life is easy, everything is unfair, but making things harder for someone else to make them a little easier on you is a huge dick move.
@ettinakitten5047
@ettinakitten5047 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, assuming the kid is autistic because his behavior sure sounds like autistic behavior - routines are often place-specific. He probably didn't mind uncle not doing stuff for him at his dad's place because that's his dad's place and uncle isn't part of the routine there. In fact, if uncle had gone over to dad's place to visit him, it's possible that would've freaked him out because uncle belongs at mom's place, kinda like meeting your teacher in the supermarket. Also, behavioral therapy for autism is terrible. There's a whole movement going on to get it banned because it's abusive and does more harm than good. It's basically the exact same methodology, level of ethics and potential for harm as gay conversion therapy but because it's applied to a disabled person it's seen as more acceptable. I've even seen a dog trainer point out that behavioral therapy for dogs has a stricter code of ethics than behavioral therapy for autistic children.

OP had the audacity to call her friend’s 5 year old a brat when she, a full grown adult, was upset that said 5 year old hates her for basically endangering her life. Splashing a 5 year old, no matter the swim skill, can be overwhelming for the little body to keep afloat risking the possibility of drowning! Dear god OP is so detached from reality it’s amazing.

Story 1:OP is not the Ah, the sister need to take care of her own kid not rely on OP do it. The sister need to get help from professor in order to better understand her kids condition and how she can take care of him. Story 2: OP is not the Ah, they abadon OP. Why did the gave up OP? But why did they bring other family member to show you, to me that mess up, it should of been the three of them. I can understand why OP reacted that why. Story 3:OP is the Ah, without hearing both side, OP took her sister side. The bf was ok in the beginning until the sister made him comfortable and OP accursing her bf for lying all because her sister isn't a lie. I wouldn't blame the bf if he break up with OP. Story 4:OP is the Ah, the're kids and the fact that both kids say they don't like OP, they see something bad within OP. Op need help and I think they will no longer talk/befriend again.

The backhandedness is too severe in story too, especially with the other children, its saying "Yeah, we didn't want YOU in particular in that particular moment, but we did want your siblings.". Honestly, very shitty of the parents to try and reconnect in a upfront and bold way, especially when there is an adoption options to keep in touch with the child (not sure if this goes in other countries) as they grow. To then act as if all is good is very ignorant.

Story 3: I have read so many novels where the sister was trying to sabotage the relationship or steal her man, often by "innocently" suggesting that the man is actually terrible and setting up fights from behind the scenes. Since it's already pretty obvious that's what OP's sister was doing, I'm more curious as to which cliche reason she did it. Was she jealous of her sister? Was she trying to sleep with the boyfriend? Did she just want them to break up so she has her sister to herself?
@Tammohawk1

1st Story: NTA What is up with people expecting others to help them parent their kids? Seriously? I don't care if the kid is special needs. It makes no difference. And little one needs to learn how to manage change regardless. I know it's not always easy, but it has to be done. 2nd Story: No one Sucks here. I have to believe that the bio parents did believe they were doing the right thing. OP wasn't wrong for not saying more or for telling the truth. It was bound to come out, sooner is far better than later I believe. I think bio parents deserve to at least be listened to, one on one though. When OP is ready and not a moment sooner. This entire situation just sucks. Those adoptive parents are the real ones to blame here. 3rd Story: YTA OP's sister is up to no good. And for OP to immediately jump to sisters side instead of listening to her boyfriend speaks volumes to me. She's not mature enough for this relationship. I would love to hear the update on this one. Wow. 4th Story: YTA OP is the arsehole for getting so bent out of shape with a 5 yr. old!! I don't think OP is fit for civilized society, ever. If my friend like that, we wouldn't be friends after that. And little kids don't generally like to be overly splashed. The kid asked OP to stop, and OP didn't. That was mean.

When a 10 year old is eating at 9 at night instead of being asleep they have a parenting problem, it's important for any child but especially special needs kids need a set routine and enough sleep. Ok, I have so many issues with story 1 I can't even figure out where to begin. Autistic kids are hard to help, it's just the reality of things, but that doesn't mean that you just give in and not only allow but enforce bad habits. What's that boy meant to do when he's older and all he'll eat is nuggets and no veggies? What about *his* nutritional needs?! The sister needs to step up as a parent in so many ways, and she should start with her parenting her own kid but cannot stop there for Alex's sake. So many autistic youths end up fucked over as adults because they weren't helped to adapt when they had the chance. She can either work with her husband to establish a routine they should've had years ago, or establish it all on her own because it's her kid and she needs to help *her kid* to adapt and develop routines to preserve his heath and help him thrive whether he's with family or independent.

Story 4... are we sure OP isn't the 5 year old? Certainly sounded like it based on the post. Geesh! When my youngest was 5, he'd tell me he hated me every single evening when it was time to clean up toys before bath/bedtime. By the time I tucked him in to sleep, his last words for each night to me were always, "Goodnight, mommy, I love you." Children's feelings change on a dime. They don't even have words, much of the time, for what those feelings are. OP was super childish and seems to me like the friend wrote her off a long time ago and rightfully so. Not sure why she even posted except to try to get validation for acting ridiculous.

Finally had my lappy fixed and I can listen to you again! (Normally I listen to you as I work so while I missed being on time, I have a lot of vids to listen to hehehehe) Story 3 pisses me off. I was called spineless back then so I tend to reserve my judgment for people who don't know what to do in the heat of the moment. OP, though, was just so avoidant! Ignoring an issue for a day and then approaching it is okay. But they immediately took the sister's side, told the boyfriend to go, when they don't know what truly happened. And somehow they call the shots? Their relationship should end. If OP could not handle confrontation and addressing issues, they're better off without a relationship. Being in a relationship means you have to work things out and discuss things. It bothers me because she's the one overwhelmed and somehow, she makes people adjust to her needs. She may not be a bad person and she must have had this avoidant personality due to upbringing or environment but if she can't face things, she won't be able to fix things too.

Story one) The poor kid needs structure and routine and change needs to happen slowly. However it's the parents who need to do this not you. The fact that he has very different routines in the 2 places he stays is the main casue of his meltdowns. The parents need to sit down and set down a strict routine with visual cues so that he knows what happening. Maybe a clock that has different sections coloured in so he can see that it's meant to be dinner time and when it's OP's time to sleep. It would be hard at first but if it's stuck to it works.

With Story 2 I feel like OP's reaction was completely understandable. I don't think their parents were trying to hurt them, but it sounds like they've been through a lot in that situation would have been emotional and probably traumatic without bringing in the entire family. Like, I don't consider that I've had a particularly hard life although I've had my struggles and issues. And if my biological father suddenly showed up in my life and wanted to meet me and I agreed and I came to a restaurant and he was there with some sort of perfect happy family I think I would be upset and emotional. And I'm 29.

Story 4: OP sounds like a narcissist. She provides a FREE thingy for her friend and kids. She then doesn't respect the children's body autonomy by assaulting them with water making the swimming pool not very fun for them. OP sounds like she has no empathy for anyone but herself. She can be overbearing and rude and play rough with kids. But no those kids can't complain about not being treated with respect. They are children so they way they'll complain will NOT be very diplomatic, but at least it will be sincere. OP then gets offended like how dare they be mad at her for ruining their fun by splashing on them when they didn't want it. OP should have instead felt sad and guilty for making the children's swimmingpool experience miserable. That meant their mother, OP's friend, also didn't have an enjoyable time because her children are upset. Sounds like OP has the mentality of a child who was wanting the full attention of her friend but had to tolerate the fact that she had to share her friend's attention with two little children. Good thing they are no longer talking to OP after OP threatened to just abandon them without any transportation.

Story 2... NTA... Bio parents AH! Excitement is one thing but they were over-the-top and extraordinarily insensitive. I cannot imagine that NO ONE suggested they slow walk reuniting with the child they gave up for adoption 19 years prior. They did NO research on how best to reunite with a child put up for adoption? No one said, maybe one of you or if OP is comfortable, the two of you (bio parents) should meet with OP first? It is just incredulous to me that they had a full-on family reunion at OP's expense. So their two families' curiosity was more important than the mental health and well-being of OP? Though apologetic AFTER THE FACT, there's too much information out here for them not to have known this wasn't the best for OP. Their selfishness makes them the AHs in my opinion.

@andronikoswendsofchange1151
@andronikoswendsofchange1151 4 жыл бұрын
Story 1: The woman shouldn't change her lifestyle at all. You should never give up the habits that are benefiting you for someone else. You'll lose those benefits, resent the other person, and no one will be happy. The habits she has cultivated are difficult to start and maintain. If she gave them up, she'll have to start over again and make up for her losses. Story 2: Highly inappropriate for the parents to bring their extended family. At the maximum, they should have only brought their spouses and the first words out of their mouths should have been questions about where their son is in life and what happened to him. Story 3: If I was the boyfriend, the relationship would have been over the second she didn't believe me and told me to move out. Also, I wouldn't have moved out. When she threatened to leave with her sister, I would have helped them pack their bags and showed them the door. Story 4: The woman's first mistake was inviting her friend and her daughters to this retreat in the first place. It sounds like she didn't care for the children to begin with, so it's her fault for subjecting herself to a situation where she has to put up with these children whom she considers bratty (whether they really are or not is beside the point, the woman thinks they are). She would have been better off going alone or inviting her friend only. I also have to wonder if she actually was a little mean to the children in the pool because of her low opinion of them and didn't realize it due to her bias. Whether the child is five years old or not is irrelevant. If the child spoke in the way described, it sounds like there are some parenting issues, perhaps the parent(s) blindly believe their children do no wrong or they are weak on disciple and instilling manners. The mother should have had her daughters apologize, not for what they said, but for how they said it. It may have been a good opportunity for the daughters to learn how to more politely express themselves and there may have been a chance the woman would have apologized for going at the children a little too hard at the pool.
