If someone gives you a metal & laser engraved business card, run. It’s the first sign of a scammer. If you are just some nobody on the street, most people will hand you paper business cards because of the cost and volume of cards they need to hand out. People with metal business cards are obsessed with making others think their business is a good investment by giving out “luxury” collateral. Unless they have a fancy office, large team, and fancy PHYSICAL product to match , chances are they are just posturing to collect investments. Even then, real rich & successful people usually choose not to do gaudy metal business cards, but instead use a standardized corporate card in line with the rest of their company.

The fact that people think medical records will be more secure on the block chain shows just how removed from reality these people really are. Since medical records have been stored on computers, there hasn't been a widespread problem with hacks taking place. Meanwhile NFT's have been around for a few years and there are loads of examples of people losing them in scams and attacks.

*What I really appreciate:* The interview with the career sign spinner. *What I still don't understand:* Why any small creators would willingly make NFTs (especially attached to their actual body of work) when it's against their best interests.
@jehantiny_burn8869
@jehantiny_burn8869 2 жыл бұрын
Speaking as a small creator, specifically in fine art, (though one who hates crypto passionately), there's a pretty big part of creating art that sort of. Forces you into either underselling or doing things you don't really care about because even if it's a bad deal, it's better than no sales at all. To be clear, I do think there's definitely people who fully buy in, but in a way, for a lot of creators I think it's similar to deliberately underselling your work because you have to at least sell SOMETHING to make money. ((Please support small artists, especially local ones - they need it!))

This... This is kinda scary. A couple of times while watching this, I had moments where I thought "man, I don't understand what these people are saying, they must be smarter than I am" and then I had to smack myself back to reality to remember that I don't understand them because they barely understand the bullshit that they're saying themselves. I'm a relatively wealthy university student, and if I was less well-off or less educated then I am, I could see how easy it would be for me to get roped into something like this. The people at this convention are either scammers or getting scammed, and it's usually pretty easy to pick out who is who. Of course, no matter how desperate I was, if I wanted to get into NFTs and saw the ecological impact, I'd throw them into the fucking ocean. So I guess even the people getting scammed are pretty scummy, because at the end of the day, they all care about their own wallets more than the health of our planet.

For someone who's easily influenced, knowledge is the only thing that'll protect you from being manipulated into a scam, or worse. Honestly dude? I think these were much more effective than confrontational interviews -- or at least less distressing for everyone involved. In my eyes, your respectful and thoughtful questions prompt the person you're interviewing to think critically about the decisions they've made, and presents them with reframings of their situation. Personally I think that's extremely valuable for all of us to provide for both ourselves and others. It kind of reminds me of therapy: sometimes what helps best in gaining perspective on something you're emotionally tied up in is by having another person, who's familiar with the issue, give you starting points for untangling and re-contextualizing whatever the subject is -- y'know, whether that be cryptocurrency or negative self-talk. When you're so personally invested (financially, emotionally, etc) in something, it can often be a defense mechanism to double down and shut out explicit criticism and what are perceived as attacks on that part of your life/identity. The goal of having people be a bit more thoughtful about their choices is one i think was accomplished pretty well through your interviews! These people are not idiots and the rest of us aren't inherently "better" or "smarter" than them! Maybe we're a bit more critical and informed in our decisions (on this specific topic), but at the end of the day we're all vulnerable to exploitation and cognitive dissonance. This comment section has been respectful of the subjects of the interviews as far as I've seen, but I wanted to mention that anyway!
