I get really tired and don’t want to get out of bed. I feel going to another room would make me more anxious that I’m missing a chance to fall asleep. When I know I have an appointment the next day, I really can’t sleep because I keep thinking I need to be awake at that appointment.

It's a common fear that getting out of bed will increase anxiety or limit your time to sleep. But the opposite tends to happen with insomnia. The longer you're in bed (NOT sleeping), the more you get anxious, and the harder it is to sleep, which wastes MORE time. When you you get out bed, it breaks the context and helps you to relax and get into a sleep state FASTER than staying in bed. But you need to use this skill correctly.
