Hi Jean, I am ridiculously excited to have caught up with all four blocks. My eyesight has come back just enough to sew these lovely blocks. Hello Jean! I am a 1 year quilter thanks to you, this past year I made 9 "10 minute quilt block" quilts to give as christmas gifts thanks to you. I am now following your 2019 quilt block, and am venturing into the unknown for me and doing a bargello quilt as well. I did however find out on the first block that my 1/4" foot was not a true 1/4". I did not have one so I purchased an after market "sale" one and it was not true either. So I purchased one made for my machine and ta da!!! my blocks were perfect! You are sooooo right about how important that 1/4" is. Love your tutorials, and look forward to my time spent in my sewing room and making quilts. Thank you so much!

Hi Jean! Great video! I love the intro with your sons! I wanted to tell you that next time you take your Juki in to get serviced, tell the dealer that your threads are too short when you use your cutter. Sometimes on Juki's they can adjust the length of the thread the cutter leaves behind so that it's more functional for you. Just fyi. Jen's video that you did with her new machine was really fun too! She is going to be the next Angela Walters, lol! She's moving along so fast and doing such a great job! Our little Jen is growing up so fast, lol! You're a great teacher, Jean! Love the blocks for this quilt along so far, too! Have a great week! God's mighty blessings to you!

Hi Jean, I finally got around to cutting some of my bundles of fabric I have for ages. I had very ambitious projects in mind, but my lack of confidence in piecing the blocks, let alone the quilting process prevented me from starting. So thanks for the encouragement and for your wonderful directions. I am very delighted that I can be part of your sewing comunity and I discovered that there is a lot of support and enthusiasm. Keep up the great work!

I just rescued some of my fabric from storage. I love these blocs. I get tickled about each of your sons claiming to be the favorite. I only have 5 children 4 daughters and one son. My son was born smack in the middle. My girls have always said my son is my favorite. He is 37 and they still refer to him as "The Boy". I tell him he is my favorite son. My daughters are from 45 to 33. If I say no to doing something or going somewhere I always get You would if The Boy asked.

We do have a laugh! We didn't really plan on having so many kids...they just happened to happen! When #1 was born - he was about 45 seconds old (after a tough natural labor), I announced to my startled hubby that "I want 10 kids". !!!!!! After #10 was born and about 45 seconds old (after an even TOUGHER natural birth) I announced to my relieved hubby "that's it....we are done".. LOL! And that Was it!! Funny!! :) Lots and lots and tons and tons of work, but at the end of the day, our family (now 34 of us ~ kids/spouses/grandkids) are very close, zero drama, all live nearby and get together and have a laugh) So it was worth all the angst! :)

Well well well....I’m not new to quilting but started this block party so I could complete something easily without to much thought or reading of instructions! TOO much on my plate to start another project on my own. What a rude awaking. To all the new people just starting out, hang in there, pay close attention to the rewind button, and you will catch on. I thought “I Got This”. Sure after redoing a few block a few times over I started to really pay attention to Jeans instructions....And not think I know it all. So here I sit waiting for further instructions and second guessing my color choices 🤔 It’s always something. Thank you Jean for your time and attention to details.

I ALSO have the same juki sewing machine as Jean,I bought after she bought hers ,,I have the same problem but I have adjusted the large white knob on the top of the juki to the left and it has also helped to cut the thread without being to short , and it doesn't come untheaded like it did at first. This knob is to loosen when you have thicker fabrics, but it has helped. RENEE CORBIN

For those that don't understand why to "Kitty scratching" fabric.... It slowly moves the fabric in a controlled manner to help line it up without making you pick up and moving the entire piece of fabric. Morning. Just to go off subject, when you were in the UK was it around the time Hannah Hauxwell was on the telly? She was a farmer in one of the Dales who lived off nothing. Well, I saw last night that all the quilts that her relatives had made that have never been used are up for auction. I imagine that they are hand sewn. No electricity on the farm. Treadle machine? There are a few photo's on the Northern Echo site. Nothing like modern one's that you can whip up in a day. These took forever.

I learned from Rob Appel “Man Sewing “ that he too can have an issue with his automatic cutter resulting in the needle becoming unthreaded. For him he said that happens because he removed the unit from under the pressure before the machine has finished cutting which results in that same frustration. Like you he too can have high energy and can do things quickly... apparently being too quick during the auto cutting can result in the cut threads being too short & the needle coming unthreaded. Hmmm 🤔, my machine doesn’t have that feature so I don’t have first hand experience but perhaps try the auto cut and pause a moment or two while it completes that function to see if this is why you’ve had that result! Am liking these blocks this week, cannot wait to choose my fabric!👍

Oh too funny, Jean. I must be short on my memory, but when I saw your solid red and red with white dots block, I thought "What's she doing with my block!!!" I even went to make sure I still had mine!! LOLOL All the others are different fabric patterns. That's the only one, so far, that's the same. I'm almost finished my 2018 BOM quilt and it's looking not bad! Okay, so I have a 1/4" problem. I have measured EVERYTHING up, down, sideways, used painters tape, have a 1/4" foot, using a ruler to follow a stitch at a time to ensure a proper 1/4". I'm STILL out 1/4". My unfinished squares are 9 1/4" square. My litmus test failed! It's so frustrating not knowing what I'm doing wrong. Help, anyone??
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
I have NO idea what is going on there! But I think if your blocks are consistently 9 1/4" then they are consistently 9 1/4", so what's the problem??!?! LOL!! Just as long as they are consistent~! It just means that your finished quilt will be slightly smaller than those whose blocks finish at 9"! And that's fine! :) Don't sweat the small stuff !
@brendawallgren83546 жыл бұрын
If you put a ruler on your piece after you've sewn it, what is the distance from your stitching line to the edge of the fabric?
@cheryl82806 жыл бұрын
@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory Oh I'm not sweating it. It's just that if it's not right I want it to BE right! LOLOL Do you detect a little OCD there? True!! Okay, boss. I'll go with this extra 1/4" and carry on. But if something does come to mind let me know. Have a great day!
@cheryl82806 жыл бұрын
@@brendawallgren8354 Hi Brenda My ruler is 9 1/2". When I put the ruler down on the piece like Jean does, it's 9 1/4" to the right and another 9 1/4" from the bottom. So it's a 9 1/4" unfinished block. Jean's right. I could leave it and have a slightly smaller quilt, I know, but after all the measuring I'm doing, including the individual pieces before I sew them together, I want to know WHY! Ya know???? LOLOLOL

I thought you mentioned before you ever started this that it was going to be made from fat quarters or was that for a different one. Jean I can't see the directions for how many to cut, could you please make them bigger or have the camera closer, the first two blocks I could see the writing was bigger. Thank you. This is going to be pretty. I finally enlarged the whole video to see the directions. Hard for me to see. Thanks Jean.
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
In several videos BEFORE the actual block party began, I mentioned that I would be using my layer cakes (from MSQC), some fat quarters and some yardage. However, I did say that if you were using fat quarters that I would get between 15 and 18 of them for this project plus some yardage for the sashing. About the measurements...in the actual video when I am cutting the pieces, I put the measurements at the top of that bit. As blocks get bigger and more complicated, I don't really want to be writing out all of the cutting instructions, as I have already SAID them in the video

I'm not really sure. I love my Martelli mat. I just don't know why your ruler is slipping. Are you going slowly and holding it firmly but not SO tight as to fatigue your hand? Perhaps others have a suggestion!?!!?

I went to my first quilt show in 2003 and started quilting in about 2005 ~ not really into it until 2006

Would it be a good idea to actually show the beginner how to measure from the needle to find their quarter inch. I say that because the needle moves position, often having needle left centre and needle right and they may be confused as to where their needle has to be before they measure the quarter inch. You may have already done this and I missed it, but I know it was something I was confused about when I started. People who have computerized machines won't have this problem, but those with manual machines might.

Perhaps, but I think every single quilter and every single machine and every single needle position is unique to their own, so I really do think it's up to each person to just experiment and find it!

Seems to cut the bobbin thread too short. Each time you have to pull threads out each time.

Jean Truelove mine lives in Arizona and I’m constantly saying did you go to anybquilt shops? Did you buy me any fabric? If I’m lucky I get a deal of the day from Missouri Star Quilt once in a while. Thursday is my birthday and I think he might be coming to NY to surprise me so I hope he is taking me for fabric 😀
