The early BR crest was intended to have the lion facing forwards on both sides. It was the later crest that caused the problem because only the left facing lion crest was sanctioned, A few locomotives appeared with both lions facing forwards but the College of Heraldry soon intervened and the crests then all had the lion facing left.

Another wonderful video from you Jenny, l forgot how much l loved the Pug. Saw it at a few shows in the happy days before Covid. You convinced me to buy one or more likely two. Jenny your video's are among the best on youtube l always look forward to seeing them. Never stop or life will be a bit dimmer without you. Your my Queen of Model Railways. Best wishes John.

It's worth pointing out that Train-o-Matic Smart Power packs only work with Train-O-Matic decoders (and some ESU and Lenz decoders). I followed your advice and my Pug (51218) really works well now even at a crawl - it used to just stall everywhere!

Great video Jenny I love the pugs.The Dapol fire happened at Widsford before they went to Llangollen,and they lost The old Wren moulds as well as some of the old Airfix / Kitmaster plastic kit moulds.Loved the history will have to watch again to take it all in.😀👍

I have the new release of 51207. Of all the locos I have, '07 has to be one of my least favourites. Got her 16th December, motor died on boxing day (The cab lit up orange and it stopped dead) she was pushing 1 of the 4 wheel coaches that comes in train sets. It went back to hornby and got a replacement a month later. On its about 3rd run, a light engine run, the cab lit up and I turned the power straight off which saved another motor death. She is at one side, I think I will weather her and try and fit the motor from the new hornby terrier as they are smaller and make room for a cab interior as well as not having to worry about the motor dying again.

PS. What is that Pug driver pointing at?? and do you think Hornby will ever take the motor out of the cab and perhaps replace it with a W4 Peckett-type mechanism? - that would allow interior detail and maybe even a glowing firebox.

Great to hear the history of the model. Does the boiler detach from the model at all? I would have thought there would be space in there for the decoder and stay alive? I think I will have to get one, (or more!) of these now👍😀😀😀😀
@JenniferEKirk4 жыл бұрын
The boiler is filled with a lead weight - no spare space at all.

Excellent review Jenny. It's always interesting to see the history of specific models. I'll have to buy an L&YR pug some day. I wonder if Hornby could do something similar with the Ruston 48DS and use a coal truck turned into a bashed tender for DCC fitting. Does anyone know if the L&YR pugs had "tenders" added, or was that just the Caledonian ones?
@JenniferEKirk4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m not aware of any running with tenders.

Is it possible to add a capacitor to the analog DC version of the locomotive? It might help to prevent stalling on points.

I for one do think you were very harsh in your scoring. It's such a small engine and I think there is enough detail to warrant a higher mark then you gave it. You also down marked it because of the lack of DCC and when fitted it showed. What if your layout was DC would that of changed your scoring? You can only get a Pint into a Pint Pot. Martin. (Thailand)
@JenniferEKirk4 жыл бұрын
I get criticised if I score them high, and criticised for scoring low! It is a good model, but has some limitations born out of the age of the model.
@martinpattison40184 жыл бұрын
@@JenniferEKirk Thank you for your reply. I just think that it should have been reviewed as it was made and not what it was made into. You, yourself said that you would be criticised for the low mark. Let the "Cupboard Monkey take a look at it and see what she says about it. It was not made to be a DCC Loco. No, I do not want manufactures to made one DCC and one DC. I forgot to say it on the review of the Terrier, Dapol should have of supplied a coal load in the detail bag. Have a nice day today. Martin.

Hi Jenny, from Beautiful East Texas. I really appreciated your review of this little locomotive. I do have a question though, what is the relationship between this model and the “Smokey Joe” type locomotive, since they are both referred to as “Pugs”?
@johngondol89404 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ben. So, aside from both being called “Pugs” and being 0-4-0Ts, there really is no relation!?

@@johngondol8940 i think 'pug' was a nickname for a small loco usually 0-4-0T

The Dapol versions are 11217 in LMS, 19 in L&Y and 51241 in BR. All the others are Hornby made versions.

I've been trying to get one of these in L&YR livery for ages. Does anyone know if decals are available from somewhere to finish off a repainted BR version?
@patrickwebb73114 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. Railway Mania uses Fox Transfers, perhaps they have something that you can use?
@JenniferEKirk4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about decals, but the Dapol L&Y version comes up fairly often on Ebay.
@ausfoodgarden4 жыл бұрын
Thanks to both of you for the replies. Shipping to Australia is almost as much as the loco through ebay. I'll definitely check out fox transfers, I've used their lining and numbers before with great success.
