Years ago my brother and me were walking in downtown Austin and came upon a guy loading, by himself, an organ into a trailer. "Can we help you with that?", we asked. "Thank you, no. I've got it." His English accent gave him away. I just said OK and we walked on but it would have been an honor to help Ian McLagan pack up his organ.

Back in the early days of rock music it was played on the radio air waves a lot. In the last 50 years of radio free music a whole hell of a lot more of music has been released so now days there's a lot more music competition. There for competition means way less radio air time for all songs. mass competition creates way less radio play for all bands. Back in the early 1970's Rod Stewart and Faces was hot rockin' music. Hell even the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Doors etc. music isn't heard no where near as much. It'd called COMPETITION.

Yep, the past and the future only exist in your mind. We experience the eternal moment of "now" . Everything happens at the same time...
@Candolad3 жыл бұрын
@@Herefornow-571 they're my philosophical thoughts. I imagine that our external world is far too great and complex for our mind to absorb so our brains filter out probably 90% of it and separate it into the past (45%), now (5%) and the future (45%). Perhaps when we die we become part of the "all" that exists across the whole universe when we are then capable of accessing the "everything" that exists as "now".
@whitepearl86393 жыл бұрын
Our mind only works 20 % of all dont dream over the dogs are better that we are ....aahh
@JeffRebornNow3 жыл бұрын
Tennessee was quite correct, life is all memory, and my Western mind can't grasp the concept of "the eternal now" that Eastern religions say the enlightened man exists in. Although for the last decade of his life my father "suffered" (?) from senile dementia and all he pretty much had was "the now," he was never happier in his life. He loved each new moment that came at him and he seemed to be completely free of resentments and anxiety. Should we all jettison our pasts and try to become as senile as possible? Would this bring us closer to nirvana? To me this state has a merely negative attraction, and does not seem to heighten one's pleasure. I am sure I've had wonderful sex while completely drunk -- that is, the feelings of pleasure that occurred during the act and the sudden release of tension brought about by orgasm were probably as intense and physically satisfying as any sex I've had while sober, but I would never categorize as great this drunken sex because I can't remember it, and I have none of the pleasures attendant in recall that I have when thinking about good sexual experiences I had while sober. And I certainly can't masturbate to acts that I can't remember. A great bit of the pleasure that resides in our experiences seems to be dependent upon our being able to recall them, and we often hope that we can remember vividly such experiences. We even go to great lengths to mentally record such experiences while they are happening so as to be able to recall them in the future. For instance, we stare into a lover's eyes so as to fix them in memory. I can't even imagine how we can call any experiences pleasurable or unpleasurable if we can't remember them. If someone were to ask me, "Were you a happy baby?" I would have to reply, "I don't know whether I was or not. I can't remember being a baby, but my mother recalls how I responded to the world, and other than having a bout of colic, she says I was very happy." So it seems to me that the disappearance of regret and worry is a sad trade off for the negation of all memory. Or have I got it all wrong? Is it merely that we are supposed to get over our resentments and regret while not actually forgetting the experiences that occasioned such feelings? Is it merely a shift in perspective that will free us from being prisoners of our past and propel us toward spiritual enlightenment and allow us to reside perpetually in some untrammeled now? If so, how do we achieve such a shift?

Fantastic performance! No lip syncing here! I love how the bands Rod performed with incorporated instruments like the fiddle and mandolin. It added a strong element of the bluesy folk that was developing in the states with the bands like the Allman Brothers and Black Oak Arkansas, but was often missing from the Brits. You'd catch some with individual songs of the Stones, i.e. Midnight Rambler but it took Led Zeppelin to say, "We'd like a bit of them blues right over here!" But Rod had been doing it all along. To be fair to the Brits, they couldn't help it. Bluesy folk was born in the US, probably right in the Allman's back yard!

Simply one of the greatest pop songs ever written or recorded.always overshadowed by Maggie..Can you believe he wrote the lyrics whilst recording it?..That was him and the Faces..always unselfconscious..not even knowing how brilliant they were!

This is one that never seems to get played these days - so hearing it smacked me all the way back to that 72-74 era. Wow. Nice.

In his autobiography, Rod writes that he's always had trouble coming up with lyrics citing this song as an example of his last minute lyric writing. Clearly, he deserves to have more faith in his own lyrical skills, because this is superb.

I've heard stories of Rod being locked in a room with pen and paper and told he wasn't allowed out until he'd finished writing the song lyrics. Not sure of it's true but it certainly fits in with the whole image of Rod/The Faces who always seemed to be in the verge if descending into total chaos but just holding it together to produce some classic rock performances.

Great song, and I remember those days. Was young then, going on 17. I look and feel so old now. Times goes by so quick, and you end up reminiscing about your youth, and all the things you never did because you felt you had forever to do them.

I think everything is playback except for Rod's singing. The shy man on the guitar (the co-writer?) is playing a classical guitar in the clip and the sound is that of a twelve string.

He did not steal the show because it is impossible to steal a show from Rod Stewart.Rod is the ultimate entertainer 3:59

@@kitharoidos1089Yes, that's Martin Quittenton who co-wrote this one and also "Maggie May" and "Farewell". Evidently, the royalties from those three enabled him to retire a few years down the line and sustained him until his death a few years ago. And yes, I'm pretty sure he plays a twelve on all three hits.

It's really good, but it's even better when you recall what other bands were doing at the time. In 1972 rock'n'roll was really HEAVY and SERIOUS. People were doing 20 minute drum solos. And here comes Rod, having a bit of a laugh with his mate Ronnie Wood and reading the words off a scrap of paper ... pure gold.

@@straightwhitemale966 the standard technique for TOTP was to re-record the song (instruments and vocals) in the TV studio. That's how many TOTP performances have a BBC orchestra on them when the record is of just a band line-up. There are exceptions, but it would need to be pretty bad to allow Rod Stewart to sing live because he turned out, in the state he was in, to be incapable of mining successfully to anything.
